Looking at the haute couture gowns Evadne had selected for her, there was a
hint of concern in Ivy's voice as she said, “Evadne, don’t you think it's a bit much
for a newbie like me to be wearing these designer pieces? I mean, it's kinda
shouty, isn't it?”
Evadne shot her a look that could wilt flowers. “Honey, every starlet is trying to
outshine the other at this event. Don't tell me you plan to show up in something
off-the-rack. Your fans would have my head on a platter!”
Ivy pouted. “Come on, Evadne. My fans arent that unreasonable.”
“Oh, sure, they're the epitome of reason, and so are you. It's just me who's the
uncultured swine, right? Pick one already. Your fans definitely want to see you
looking drop-dead gorgeous.”
The mention of her fans was enough to soften Ivy. The gowns were indeed
stunning. Balfour had made it clear that whatever Ivy wanted, she could have-no

Balfour seemed contemplative-he, too, had received an invitation.
“If I were to attend the award ceremony, would that upset you?” he probed.
Ivy immediately denied it. “Of course not! I'll be so nervous that day; I was
actually hoping you could be there with me. But this is an artsy thing, not your
scene with the whole business crowd, right?”
Ivy was oblivious, but Evadne, listening in, just shook her head. Aside from her
acting chops, you wouldn't guess Ivy belonged to showbiz.
The award ceremonies always buzzed with industry tycoons in addition to actors
and directors. Balfour had
never attended such events before; his inquiry meant he wanted to support Ivy
