“She showed me a place,” Hannah said quietly. “It's a spot real near where she
mines. It has a really nice place to sleep and the other girls stay away from there,
because it's hers.”
I kept a big fake smile on my face and nodded. If I said anything right now I
would cry or my voice would crack. Christof saved me from having to speak.
“Must be high up,” he said thoughtfully.
“I bet the view from there is amazing.”
Maybe, Hannah mused and then she went on to explain how high up it was. She
had been surprised to she could breath that far in the clouds. I would have
passed out, Hannah remembered my initial harrowing trip to the mountains well.
“I still can’t believe she went and got you that way,” Evan said.
“I wonder what the men in the compound thought of a woman stealing a slave?”
