“I can't stay here,” I told her trying not to sound sad, “and neither can you...”
“If you are at the compound, I can't see you or talk to you, Mama,” Hannah
whispered.
Damien spoke up then, “It isn’t safe here for your Mama. You know how the other
women see her...the men aren't much better.”
“Racists,” Hannah muttered and I laughed.
“Which is?” Christof asked.
I didn't realize Hannah had spoken the word in English. There was no equivalent
here.
