Chapter 1275
Jameson spoke, "So, have you found a man who cares for you?"
His sarcastic grin pierced through her heart.
"Do you think Axel Whiteaker loves you just because you've slept with him? Do you think he cares for you just because he gave you a box of gastric medication?"
Letting go of her neck, he jabbed her on the forehead. "I thought you were smart despite your lowly background, but now, I realize you are useless. Giving you plastic surgery to look like Alyssa is an insult to her beauty."
The man she had loved for a decade had become a total stranger to her. Tears of heartbreak streamed down her cheek, but Jameson was oblivious to her suffering. "Don't be delusional. I know the Taylors well.
"They're just like me-they only have eyes for Lyse. You're from a lowly background, not least having worked for me. Do you think Axel would fall for you? He'll only kill you off when he learns about your identity."
He took out a silk handkerchief from his pocket and leisurely cleaned the blood on his fingers. "Don't be delusional, Amber Altman. You don't deserve him."
"What about you?" Amber, emboldened by a newfound courage, smiled. "Do you think you deserve Alyssa Taylor? No matter how hard you try, she only has eyes for Jasper Beckett."
Jameson felt as if he had been kicked in the nuts. Fueled by resentment, he cracked his knuckles. Carl sweated and urged Amber, "Ms. Altman, please stop! What good is going against Mr. Schmidt?"
Then, he advised Jameson, "Mr. Jameson, calm down! You can't go on anymore-she'll die in your hands. If that happens, she'll be of no use anymore. Don't you think that's a pity?"
As expected, the menace in Jameson's eyes melted away. Carl, having worked closely with Jameson, knew his employer too well. Jameson was a selfish prick who was only interested in others only if he could exploit them. He would not hurt Amber as long as she was still useful to him.
Jameson was interrupted by an incoming phone call. Tossing away the handkerchief, he checked the caller ID, which made him panic. He picked it up right away.
The caller began, "Mr. Schmidt, I guess life's been good to you lately. "The male voice sounded haughty and demeaning. "Now that all the obstacles are gone, and the Taylors are hating on Jasper Beckett, dare I assume that you're going to marry Ms. Alyssa soon?"
Jameson recalled the humiliation he suffered at Alyssa's hands that day and Winston's ambiguous attitude toward him. He curled his fist indignantly and replied, "I appreciate your help, but it's hard to say for now. Anyway, I will never give up on Lyse."
"Sigh. You're not cruel enough. This will only hurt yourself and benefit your rival." The man grinned. "If I were you, I would have taken her by force. I couldn't let my efforts go to waste. If that did not work, I'd destroy her life."
Jameson's expression froze at the man's heartless suggestion. He replied, "I believe I need a bit more time. I have a problem to take care of. Once I'm done, I'll work on getting Alyssa to agree to marry me."
"Maybe put a pause on dealing with your minor problem. There's a bigger storm coming." The man's voice grew serious, sounding like an entirely different person. "The court hearing for Sophia
Kirkman's case is around the corner. Even Javier Beckett and her attorney, Simon Lynch, failed to stop it."
"The prosecutor for the case is Silas Taylor and the officer in charge is Cyrus Taylor. The entire prosecution is made up of the Taylors. It will be an uphill fight for Javier Beckett to protect his wife.
"Jeffrey Snyder might have ratted on Sophia Kirkman, but without solid proof, she won't receive heavy sentencing. But I believe Jasper and Alyssa will not let this slide, given their resentment for her.
Naturally, they will not go easy on you."
