Chapter 428
“Watch your manners, Lauren! We’re having dinner with Grandpa here!” Sophia quipped.
“Alright, alright. That’s enough. It’s just a fork. No reason to get upset at the girl,” Newton retorted. Lauren
was his favorite granddaughter, after all.
Sophia clenched her fists angrily under the table. Everything she did was wrong in the eyes of this old
man!
“Grandpa, Mom, Dad... I’m done with my meal,” Lauren said softly, then hurriedly left the table.
Jasper’s eyes narrowed as he watched his sister leave, and certain thoughts appeared in his mind.
Betty’s gleeful mood had increased double fold.
She thought that Lauren didn’t have to endure such a situation. Lauren could have remained the family’s
insignificant, almost invisible member for the rest of her life.
Regrettably, Lauren had chosen to attempt to seduce her man. That was why she felt the need to teach
Lauren a lesson and assert her dominance in the situation.
‘But why Landon?” Newton asked with a frown. “Didn’t he like Alice?”
Javier, Sophia, and Betty’s face turned an ugly shade of red.
Jasper coughed violently, having been drinking some water. His grip on the glass tightened.
“What are you saying, Grandpa? Why would Landon like Alyssa?” Betty huffed, her face reddened with
anger.
“Of course he does. I may be 80, but my eyes and ears still function properly. I saw how devoted Landon
was to Alice. He couldn’t keep his eyes or attention off of her during my birthday celebration. He’s a
smart, keen boy, that one.”
Newton then glanced at Jasper. “I even thought of marrying Alice to him at the time. They’d make the
perfect pair. Plus, Landon would treat her like a queen, unlike some. She’d definitely have a happy married.
life ahead of her then.”
Upon learning that Alyssa would spend the rest of her life happily with Landon, Jasper felt incredulous.
Jasper’s grip on his glass was slowly weakening, almost imperceptibly. He couldn’t help but sense that Newton was indirectly
chastising him.
But Jasper couldn’t bear the thought of Landon marrying Alyssa. The man who lost his virginity at 16 and

“Am I still your granddaughter, Grandpa?” Betty cried. “I’m the one who likes Landon Harper right now, not Alyssa! Shouldn’t you
be helping me instead? Why would you want to match him to Alyssa Taylor?”
“Does Landon feel the same way about you?” Newton asked.
“That... I...” Betty was stumped.
“I saw how he treated you the night of my birthday. You two didn’t even exchange a single word. He doesn’t care for you at all.”
Betty gritted her teeth, unable to retort because she knew Newton
was right.
Newton advised, “Just because you wouldn’t be forced into an arranged marriage doesn’t mean that you
should force something that isn’t there. You’ll only end up wasting your time and embarrassing yourself.
Newton shook his head and continued, “Your personalities don’t match, either. With Landon’s temper, you two wouldn’t have a
day of peace.”
Grandpa!” Betty whined, nearly crying in desperation.
*Don’t go asking Betty that, Dad.” Javier stepped in to help his daughter. “Women tend to be shy.
“It’s not like Landon has no feelings for Betty, either. He came by the other day just to talk to Betty. Sophia and I both saw it with
our own eyes.”
Betty’s heart clenched, recalling how Landon had spoken to her that day. Tears pooled in her eyes.
So what if Landon hated her guts?
As long as she married him and became his wife, she was sure he’d eventually fall in love with her after
spending time together!
