Pinching Alyssa’s chin between his fingers, Jasper leaned forward and kissed her aggressively. Hist
tongue forced its way into her mouth and passionately tangoed with hers.
Landon and Xavier were trapped in a seemingly endless wait on the first floor. Xavier paced nervously, casting occasional
glances of the second floor.
Meanwhile, Landon sat on the couch with a grim expression and stared down at the surveillance footage
that played on his phone. He replayed the scene where Zoe had bullied Lauren a couple of times. His
anger grew with each replay.
“Mr. Harper, what are you watching? You look serious,” Xavier wondered and went up to Landon.
Landon shot him a death glare and waved him away, saying, “Go away. I don’t air my dirty laundry.”
Stunned by Landon’s anger, Xavier retreated right away. Landon went back to watching the footage.
His heart ached at Lauren’s reflex reaction-she had curled up into a ball and wrapped her arms around
her head when Zoe had approached her.
Wait a minute! He furrowed his brows and examined Lauren’s response. Why did she exhibit symptoms of
PTSD? Could she have been a victim of abuse at home?
Could her response to Zoe be rooted in her trauma from Betty’s abuse? Was that the reason?
“When did you get here? Why didn’t you let me know?” Alyssa broke the
the silence as she d
stairs. Startled by the two silent men in the living room, she tried to calm her breathing.
Landon quickly stowed his phone away and flashed her a knowing grin. “Well, we didn’t want to intrude on
your intimate time together. It’s not often that you two get to meet. We didn’t want to stand in the way.”
“What intimate time?” she exclaimed and glared at him, feeling the urge to wipe that grin from his face by
hitting him with her heels.
Landon crossed his legs and turned around, resting his chin in his palm. He studied her keenly and raised an amused brow at
her moist lips and blushing cheeks.
He thought, “Oh Jasper, you must have gotten some action. You’re just a horny, shameless man beneath that stoic exterior!”
“Madam, you’re finally here! There’s hope for Mr. Beckett!” Xavier exclaimed and stared at Alyssa with
She didn’t bother to correct how Xavier had addressed her. Instead, she told him sternly, “Mr. Hall, the relapse of internal injuries
is the reason behind Mr. Beckett’s fever. We must take it seriously.
“I’ve just contacted a hospital under KS Group known for high patient confidentiality and arranged for a head physician to attend
to him. Why don’t you and Landon prepare to send him there right now?”
Xavier nodded with gratitude. “Thank you, Madam! I knew you cared about Mr. Beckett. You wouldn’t
leave him to his fate.”
“I won’t watch him die, but that doesn’t mean I have feelings for him. Stop making things up,” she
stubbornly rebuffed Xavier.
Then, she walked down the stairs and approached Landon. When they exchanged glances, he felt a weird
feeling of pressure.
She said to him, “Mr. Harper, come with me. Let’s have a chat.”
