Gab asked, “You mean Mr. Brennan hurt Estelle? I think there might be some
kind of mix-up. Yesterday, Lambert brought his own security guards to stand with
us against Triceratops’ crew, and he even brought Estelle here for surgery. He
wouldn't hurt Estelle!” Lambert kept his head down, silent and offering no
defense for himself. “Exactly, Jonah!” Josiah chimed in, in an attempt to calm the
waters. “Thank goodness for the doc’s timely rescue, or Estelle would've been in
a real bad way. Maybe it's all a misunderstanding. Let's just wait for Estelle to
come around before jumping to conclusions.” Evelyn hurried over too, throwing in
her two cents in Lambert's defense. “Are you talking about when Estelle was
taken by Raiden? I didn't understand why she was caught at the time, but it was
Mr. Brennan who saved Estelle. I saw it with my own eyes. Even if Mr. Brennan
has messed up, please, for Estelle’s sake, for the fact that he saved her, don't kill
him!” Evelyn knew Estelle and Lambert first; in her mind, the three of them were
closer. During her time in Zion, it was Estelle and Lambert who were there for
her, who had helped her, and it was Lambert who had brought her out of that
mess yesterday. So, her instinct was to defend Lambert. Jonathan didn’t want to
hash it out further; he was more worried about Estelle, who was lying inside the
room. His gaze was icy as he stared at Lambert and said, “Il won't kill you now.
Once Ella wakes up, we'll settle scores nice and slow.” Lambert's brown eyes
were swollen blue, yet he nodded firmly. “Fine by me. Whatever she wants to
settle with me, I won't run.” He had almost killed Stella, the woman he had
cherished in his heart for so many years. He couldn't even forgive himself!
Jonathan lowered his gun and strode briskly toward the room. Estelle was
furrowing her brow in her sleep. Jonathan had thought it was the pain from her
wounds, but now he understood that wasn't it! He also realized why she always
took off the necklace he'd given her while she slept. She didn’t want him to see
what was wrong with her! That Christmas Eve night, when he went to her room
and found her caught in a nightmare, he had thought it was just a bad dream in
an unfamiliar place without a sense of security. It never crossed his mind that she
had been drugged and was

nearly turned into a walking corpse! A shiver of fear ran through Jonathan, his
anger clogging his throat. He wished he could shoot Lambert dead, then
personally blow Zion to smithereens. Taking a deep breath, he reached the
bedside and gently touched Estelle’s forehead, his voice a suppressed whisper,
“Ella!” “Ella, can you wake up for me?” “I'm right here!” His voice was husky and
choked, “No more sleeping, okay? Wake up!” Estelle’s frown deepened,
struggling as if she was desperately trying to come to. Jonathan bent down and
kissed her lips fiercely, almost leaving her breathless until she slowly opened her
eyes. Their eyes met, and a light flickered in Jonathan's dark eyes. Pressing his
forehead against hers, he was at a loss for words, just wanting to hold her close.
“Jonathan,” Estelle said, dazed, her voice raspy. Jonathan closed his eyes and
asked, “You scared the life out of me, you know?” As Estelle’s consciousness
trickled back, a layer of sorrow clouded her eyes. “What about Wolf's body? Was
he brought back?” “He almost killed you!” Jonathan's voice was cold and hard.
