Gideon discovered that Charlotte was avoiding him.
“You seem to be avoiding me lately,” Gideon casually asked Charlotte when
he found an opportunity.
Charlotte hesitated for a moment and forced a smile. “No, no, I’ve just been
busy with a lot of things lately. You misunderstood.”
“Is that so?” Gideon smiled warmly, hiding his disappointment, “I might have
been overthinking it, then.”
Charlotte glanced at her watch. “I have an appointment with Lena, so I should go now.”
Gideon didn’t get a chance to express his affection but could only nod and
watch Charlotte leave.
After that, Gideon gradually lost interest in her. But Charlotte grew closer to
Lena instead until they all successfully graduated.
However, what Gideon didn’t expect was that he would see Ben and Anna on
a prank website and naturally become close to them. Then, he met with
Charlotte again.
During this reunion, Gideon learned the truth behind why Charlotte had
distanced herself from him years ago. It was because of his possessive
girlfriend at the time.
Gideon felt it absurd but reasonable.
In fact, he hadn’t fallen so deeply in love with Charlotte that he could live
without her. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given up so easily.
Gideon believed that this second encounter was fate, so he decided to
pursue Charlotte wholeheartedly. But it ended up failing again.
Finding out that Charlotte was dating Joe, Gideon specifically called Lena to
have a drink.
In the dimly lit bar, Gideon swayed his drink in his hand. It was the first time
he had removed his gentle facade before Lena. His expression turned cold
and fierce.
“Actually, you knew I liked Charlotte a long time ago, right?” Gideon raised an
eyebrow, looking at Lena.
Lena glanced at him and softly confirmed it.
“When did you know?” Gideon curiously asked Lena. He thought he had
hidden it well, so he didn’t know when he had slipped up.
“Maybe it was the first day you started liking her?” Lena smiled, “Actually,
your gaze is quite different when facing someone you like and someone you
don’t.”
Gideon was surprised by Lena’s words.
“My gaze?” Gideon was completely puzzled now. He didn’t expect Lena to
give such an answer.
Lena pointed to her own eyes. “Perhaps you haven’t noticed, but your gaze
remains cold even when you’re smiling at others.”
Gideon looked into the nearby mirror, seeing a reflection of himself with a hint
of coldness in his eyes.
He chuckled, “Maybe that’s why Charlotte rejected me.”
It wasn’t because of Joe’s appearance. The way Charlotte had responded
when he began pursuing her revealed everything.
“Don’t dwell on these thoughts. Cheers.” Lena probably guessed Gideon’s
thoughts. He had always been adored and pursued by others, so being
rejected now must have been a blow to him.
Moreover, even if Gideon didn’t have deep-rooted feelings for Charlotte, he
had at least developed genuine affection for her.
With the alcohol taking effect, the two of them continued to drink. They drank
more and more until they were both intoxicated.
Ironically, both of them acted perfectly normal after getting drunk. Except for
themselves, no one would have noticed that they were actually drunk.
