A paternity test...
Joseline went pale. When she noticed the curious faces around her, her eyes brimmed with nervousness.
“Stop defaming me, Angeline! I have been Mom and Dad’s daughter for more than twenty years. A paternity test? Aren’t you
afraid of people laughing at you?”
“I didn’t say anything. Why are you so agitated? Don’t tell me there’s really something fishy going on?” Angeline retorted with a
hint of disdain flashing across her eyes.
However, as Angeline clenched her fists, her breath grew heavier. No one knew how hard it was for her to suppress her hatred
toward Joseline.
Despite being the daughter of the Sorelle family for more than two decades, Joseline didn’t become less ruthless. That was the
reason Angeline had the impulse to destroy her.
One will have feelings for another after all these years. How can she be so heartless?
“Who said I’m agitated? I’m just teaching my sister not to joke around with made-up stories!” Joseline fumbled to explain herself.
As soon as she realized that she had fallen for Angeline’s trap, she became flustered and angry. Fearing that people would
notice something amiss, she hurried upstairs to grab her stuff and leave.
Before leaving, she shot Angeline a warning glare resentfully.
“We shall see each other in court,” Joseline spat.
As Angeline watched Joseline leave in a hurry, she found it amusing that Joseline thought that she was in a position to threaten
her.
“Get a cleaner to tidy up the office, Lillian, and send someone to walk Mrs. Yiurk out so that people won’t mistake Forrester
Group for bullying her.”
“Yes, Ms. Sorelle.”
Angeline watched Lillian chase after Joseline with a solemn expression on her face.
At last, the commotion was over.
Staring at the surrounding employees, Angeline put on a serious face and asked grimly, “Why are you still standing here? Have
you got nothing to do? Or do you wish to retire early?”
Upon hearing that, the staff dispersed like a flock of frightened birds, with those who previously looked down on Angeline having
their expressions replaced with intimidation.
After the incident, the employees concluded that the newly appointed Ms. Sorelle wasn’t as simple as she looked. She must be
capable to an extent to be able to get Golding Group to invest in Forrester Group.
Previously a small company that could barely afford to pay the employees’ salaries, Forrester Group had transformed into a
company with prospects. The good news was enough to spark the employees’ working spirit.
“Thank you for today, Sylas. Do you want a cup of coffee upstairs?”
Angeline smiled friendly at the man in a suit in front of her.
“It’s okay. I need to head back to work after relaying Mr. Golding’s message to you.”
“I’ll walk you out.”
At the exit, Angeline watched Sylas get in his car. After hesitating for a while, she asked, “By the way, did Mr. Golding tell you
anything else?”
“No. It seems that Mr. Golding has made the decision a long time ago. All he did was inform me about it.”
At the sight of Angeline’s troubled gaze, Sylas pondered for a while before giving her a hint. “Well, Mr. Golding enjoys your stew.
If you have time, you can drop by the Golding residence to teach the housekeeper your secret recipe.”
Sylas said nothing more. He closed the car door and drove away, leaving Angeline on the spot, who understood his subtle hint.
At the thought of Evander having two bowls of beef stew the previous night, Angeline felt less guilty toward him.
For the time being, the only thing that she could do to repay Evander was to prepare stew for him.
It would be nice if she could repay him with her cooking skills because she didn’t want to feel as if she was taking advantage of
him.
Meanwhile, Lillian caught up with Joseline. After exchanging glances with each other, they got in Joseline’s car, which was
parked by the roadside.
Lillian only dared to comfort Joseline after closing the car door.
“You shouldn’t be angry, Mrs. Yiurk. Our plan is meticulous. Angeline will never achieve what she wants.”
Joseline hit the back of the seat furiously. Breathing heavily, she spat, “Look at how haughty she was just now! I have to put her
in her place. Have you bought the medicine?”
“Of course I have.”
Joseline relaxed slightly upon hearing that. “All right, then. You have to think of a way to make her drink it before the live stream,”
she said wickedly.
“Don’t worry. This is a simple task.” Taking Joseline’s side, Lillian chimed in, “To be frank, I have been sick of her all this time! “I
can’t stay here for long, Mrs. Yiurk, but don’t worry about it. I’ll make sure everything is done perfectly.”
After acknowledging Joseline’s orders, Lillian looked around to make sure no one would see her before getting out of the car
quickly.
As Joseline watched Lillian walk into the company, she grabbed the steering wheel tightly and stared ahead of her in fear.
In truth, the paternity test that Angeline had mentioned in front of everyone in the company would affect her the most.
The fact that she wasn’t the biological daughter of the Sorelles was only known by a few because she had been hiding it well.
But why is Angeline suspecting me? What does she know?
A chill went down Joseline’s spine. She felt as if a hand was gripping her throat tightly and suffocating her.
No. I have to get to the bottom of this.
If all of her malicious deeds were discovered, she would have to spend the rest of her life in prison.
In the afternoon, after Evander’s workers arrived, Angeline assigned work to them in the warehouse. Half of the workers were in
charge of sending packages with clothes that suffered from losses during the last live stream, while the other half of them were in
charge of packaging matching beauty devices for couples.
It was easy to forget about the time when one was busy. Soon, night arrived.
Having packed her things in advance, Angeline left the office and drove to the Golding residence. The traffic on the highway was
congested because it was close to the peak hours.
When she was waiting for the traffic lights to turn green in her car, her phone suddenly rang. Once she saw the caller’s name, a
teasing smile appeared on her face.
She put on her Bluetooth earpieces and said, “How may I help you, Ms. Yandell? It’s been a few days, and you’re already
missing me?”
“Stop your nonsense! Don’t disgust me,” Nancy retorted candidly.
It was impossible to tell if she was joking because she sounded serious.
“I can understand if you decline a job for Forrester Group, but what about your latest movie, which is about to be released? Are
you going to ditch it too?”
Smiling, Angeline asked, “Is The Journey going to be released? I thought Mr. McKenna said we have to wait for quite a long time
before it can be released.”
“I don’t know the details, but the press conference is going to be held tomorrow night. You have to attend it as the female lead of
the movie. If not, you’ll put me in a tight spot.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be there on time,” Angeline hurriedly promised.
Having worked in the entertainment industry for so many years, she was aware of the rules. Besides, the popularity that she
would garner at the press conference would be beneficial to Forrester Group’s upcoming live stream.
