Ryan Collins POV
The week passed by in a blur, the company busy in decorating the office for Christmas. Just a few days it would be a completely new year, and Carina was running around with applications, deals and finance plans for the next year.
We barely had enough time to talk, working, getting home, and immediately sleeping. Hopefully today would be different, because I had needs.
Carina was fast asleep in the seat next to me. We had concealed our relationship from our families pretty well. Carinas mother, Gracie was receiving chemotherapy and would be perfectly fine within an year.
I looked at the snoring woman while driving and rolled my eyes. She looked like a wolf on the outside but she really was a pig inside.
I held her nose tightly.
“Wake up, you pig!” I scolded her, removing her seatbelt while giving her a sound kiss.
She grunted and opened the door, trudging to the elevator in the garage. I followed her, holding the files of numerous applicants for the company. They were a proof that this cozy relationship would not last forever.
I frowned at my negative thoughts, running after Carina. Everything I wanted was here, and I wasn’t about to change anything.
“Are you alright?” Carina asked me, looking at me concerned. Another thing I learnt about her was that she was a protective mother hen.
“Yes, mother.” I said, smiling. She smiled back, her dimples popping. My eyes softened, and I pinned her against the wall of the elevator.
She smiled at me, her teeth gleaming.
I gripped her furry coat, kissing her passionately.
“Oh Ryan.” She sighed, and I was taken aback by the helplessness in her voice.
“Where is this going?” She asked, ducking her head down. I contemplated her question. I was emotionally attached to her, obviously. I wanted to get lost in those eyes of hers, I wanted to share every moment with her.I wanted to be hers for a thousand lives.
But she would not accept my feelings, even if she had the same ones. She wanted to pursue her career. She wanted more.
“I don’t know.” I said after a long silence, my eyes mirroring the same helplessness and longing she had. I knew that if she had to choose between her career and me, she’d choose her career. If I was her, I would too.
“Say you’ll remember me. When I go.” She said. “When you move on from me.”
The elevator doors opened with a ding and I headed outside, pretending I didn’t hear her.
Her small hand tugged me back in.
“Say it, Ryan. I don’t want to regret what we have. I won’t lie to myself and say this is not everything I have ever wanted.” She said, her voice stern.
I looked at her small, determined, rosy face.
“I will.” I said in a gentle voice.
“Come on, let’s get warm.” I held my gloved hand out to her.
I had to treasure whatever time I had with her.
