It was a brand new hardcopy music book in the gift box. Lance flipped through it and said excitedly, “Martin, how do you know I want this music book? I like it! Thank you so much!”
“That’s awesome! I am so glad that you like it.” Martin pretended he didn’t know Lance wanted that music book.
Lance couldn’t remove his eyes from the music book. He kept flipping the book over and over again. After a while, he handed the music book back to Martin and said, “Sorry, I can’t take it. It must be expensive.”
“No worries. Reyna told me that you are really good at playing music. I am not a music person. So, this music book fits you more than anyone else,” Martin said and handed the music book back to Lance.
Lance didn’t know how to reply.
At that moment, Reyna walked over and said with a smile, “Take it, Lance. Don’t save money for this rich guy.”
“That’s a little rude, Reyna. You were so polite to me a month ago,” Martin said mischievously.
But he liked how Reyna reacted now.
Reyna was not a money-minded person. Although she looked cold, she was nice to and respected everyone.
Reyna was polite to others, especially to strangers.
However, if Reyna regarded someone as her friend, she would start being laid-back and talk informally in front of them.
People were more likely to act freely in front of their friends.
Even though Martin was surprised by Reyna’s reaction, he was happy with how Reyna changed the way to talked to him.
That meant Reyna regarded Martin as a friend.
“You told me to stop being polite to you. I did what you said,” Reyna said.
“That’s right. I don’t mind it,” Martin responded.
“You can stay here tonight. I have cleaned up the balcony,” Reyna said.
“Good,” Martin said.
“You guys can take your seats and try the snacks. I am going to cook the meal.”
Reyna went to the kitchen and found out the ingredients weren’t enough for three people.
Then Martin decided to go to the supermarket with Reyna.
However, the supermarket downstairs was closed.
Maybe the owner of the supermarket went home to take a break.
So, Martin and Reyna drove to the supermarket downtown.
Fortunately, the supermarket downtown was opened. Martin and Reyna bought a lot of food.
Reyna also got some sketchbooks and a few painting brushes in the supermarket.
Martin didn’t understand why Reyna was picking the cheap ones.
He believed that a higher price meant better quality.
So, Martin grabbed several expensive sketchbooks and painting brushes from the shelf and put them into the shopping cart.
“Martin, why do you pick the expensive ones?” Reyna asked.
“You don’t want them?” Martin was a bit confused.
“I want to get them. But they are way too expensive for a beginner,” Reyna said.
Then Reyna tried to put those expensive painting materials back on the shelf.
“Don’t put them back.” Martin grabbed those painting materials from Reyna and put them back in the shopping cart. “You are a talented painter. You deserve those expensive painting materials,” Martin said.
Reyna didn’t respond.
She doubted herself if she was talented enough to use those painting materials.
“No need. I don’t want to waste money. Put them back to the shelf,” Reyna said.
“You say I am your best friend. Can’t I buy a sketchbook for my best friend?” Martin said.
“Sorry. That’s not what I meant,” Reyna said.
Martin smiled and replied, “Don’t take it seriously. Do you remember what you said to Lance? You told him not to save money for me, right?”
Reyna didn’t comment.
She didn’t want to argue with Martin in the supermarket.
Reyna finally compromised and went to the checkout counter.
However, Reyna and Martin didn’t know someone was filming them when they were arguing.
“Ms. Viola, when do you want to leave?” the driver asked.
Viola was scrolling on her phone with a cold smile.
“Let’s go now,” she said to the driver.
Then the car left the supermarket as soon as possible.
Viola was a little bit down. A rough client screwed up her day.
Viola didn’t expect to see Reyna downtown. She hadn’t seen Reyna for five months.
Viola didn’t believe that she would see Reyna at the supermarket. She even asked the driver to stop at the supermarket’s entrance to see if the woman was Reyna.
Viola was right. The woman was Reyna.
Viola also knew the man next to Reyna.
“Martin is a famous person in Hill City. How can Reyna meet him?” Viola wondered.
Viola was sitting in the car and kept looking at the pictures she had just taken.
However, it was not a big deal for Viola to know about the relationship between Reyna and Martin now.
Actually, Viola felt relieved when she saw Reyna and Martin were together.
In the past, no matter how busy Leroy was, he would visit Viola when he was back from business trips.
However, things had changed a lot since Leroy met Reyna.
Since then, Leroy barely met and talked to Viola.
Leroy couldn’t stop thinking about Reyna.
More importantly, Leroy started refusing Viola’s invitation for dinner.
Leroy intentionally stayed away from Viola since the barbecue day at the Imperial Garden.
Leroy’s attention was all on Reyna.
The last nice dinner that Viola had with Leroy was six months ago.
Today, Viola finally had dinner with Leroy though the meal was for Leroy’s clients.
Leroy drank a lot during the dinner, and nobody could stop him from drinking.
After a while, Leroy went to the bathroom.
Then Viola followed Leroy and waited outside the bathroom.
“Why are you here?” Leroy came out of the bathroom and asked Viola.
Viola could know Leroy was tired from his tone.
Although Leroy could stand still and talk clearly, he was drunk.
“Leroy, I…”
Leroy tried to walk back to the dining room. But he was too drunk to walk in balance. He would fall if Viola didn’t hold his arms.
Leroy leaned on the wall and tried to walk steadily. Then he pulled his arms back from Viola and said, “I’m good. I can walk by myself.”
“Leroy, what happened to you? How can you treat me like a stranger?” Viola wondered.
The present Leroy could do anything for Reyna but hardly look at Viola.
He was no longer the Leroy that Viola had known.
