- Chapter 271 - He Shouldn't Love Her
“Louise, it’s not too late to give up.” James paused, his eyes blazing with sincere light, and said, “I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Ingrid stopped and then laughed out.
She found James too innocent.
And she never thought about turning back.
“James, I killed your father. Don’t you hate me?” Ingrid said.
“I hate you, but I will not do anything to hurt you,” James replied.
James grew up with his mother. He didn’t know a lot about his father. But Harris was still his father. The moment James knew that Louise poisoned his father, he indeed had hatred for her.
But after James knew what his father and sister had done to Louise, he didn’t hate Louise anymore.
After all, it was his father and sister who forced Louise to do so.
James raised his head and looked into Louise’s eyes.
“Do you like me?” James asked.
He looked at Ingrid intensely.
His eyes were as clear as the ocean.
Ingrid sneered and stood up. She walked back to her seat and continued to write her letter.
Soon, she finished her letter. Ingrid put it into the envelope and let her servant mail it.
Then Ingrid turned around to look at James with a sweet smile.
This was the first time James saw this smile.
The smile didn’t last long. Ingrid said, “James, you shouldn’t have feelings for me.”
Ingrid thought that she didn’t deserve love.
…
Reyna couldn’t contact Ingrid, so she was very worried about Ingrid. After Reyna saw the news, she found out that Ingrid had kidnapped Viola’s younger brother, James, and taken him to a high building of the Smiths. The building was still under construction and renovation.
Reyna had a bad feeling.
Thinking of what Ingrid had said before, Reyna was scared. She called a taxi and went to the building.
Ingrid had said that there was no turning back.
It was very likely that Ingrid wanted to go to hell with Viola.
When Reyna arrived at the building, she saw many policemen surrounding it with guns. These policemen were walking upstairs slowly.
Reyna ran over. While on the highest floor, Ingrid held James with a knife in her hand. Viola was approaching them slowly.
Reyna could hear what they said because of the distance. But Reyna could see that Ingrid was moving to the edge of the floor. Reyna was frightened and shouted, “Ingrid, be careful!”
Reyna rushed over. When she arrived on the first floor of the building, she heard a scream and then a thump. It seemed that something heavy fell off the floor.
Reyna stopped and turned around. Then she saw blood splashing on the ground. Reyna felt that the entire world was plunged into darkness.
Reyna’s eyes widened in horror. She could hear, smell, and say anything. She stood there still, looking at the blood flowing to her blankly.
It felt like a long time before Reyna regained her senses. She cried out, “Ingrid!”
She ran over and wanted to hold Ingrid lying there. But a hand stopped her.
Reyna looked up and saw Leroy.
She grabbed Leroy’s hand and said, “Leroy, Ingrid fell off the floor. She is bleeding a lot. Call the ambulance!!”
Reyna cried. She wanted to check on Ingrid but Ingrid was surrounded by the policemen. Reyna couldn’t approach Ingrid.
With the hustle and bustle around Ingrid, there came the sound of an ambulance.
Leroy glanced at Ingrid, who had stopped breathing. He covered Reyna’s eyes with his hand and said, “Don’t watch this.”
Leroy was afraid that the bloody scene would frighten Reyna.
But Reyna tried to get free of Leroy’s hand. When she took Leroy’s hand away, she saw that Ingrid, who was covered in blood, was being carried into the ambulance.
…
Ingrid was dead. She jumped from the top of the building and fell to the ground with a thump. The building was so high that no one could save her.
Reyna thought that it was an accident. But after the police’s investigation, it turned out that Viola pushed Ingrid when Ingrid was distracted.
After Ingrid was pushed down, Viola laughed out like crazy and said, “Ingrid, you are finally dead…”
Reyna wanted to kill Viola after hearing what she had done.
But in the end, Reyna calmed down.
While Viola had been arrested. She was in prison and charged with murder.
Ingrid had no family now, so Reyna held her funeral.
Ingrid was buried next to her grandfather, so she could stay with him forever.
Reyna paid tribute to Ingrid and bent down to clean Ingrid’s grave, tears streaming down her face. But Reyna forced a smile and said, “Ingrid, I know how much you love your grandfather. Now you can be with him forever.”
“Ingrid, you can rest now. Viola is in prison now. She will pay the price for what she has done.”
Reyna choked on tears and added, “I am so sorry, Ingrid. I didn’t help you. I regret that I didn’t stop you. If I had stopped you, things might be different now.”
Reyna knew how dangerous it was to take revenge on the Smiths. Reyna thought that Ingrid might be still alive if Reyna had stopped her firmly.
But it was too late to say so.
It was too late.
Reyna respected Ingrid’s decision. But respect couldn’t save Ingrid’s life.
Reyna kept blaming herself. She felt so guilty and helpless. Guilt was gnawing her mind.
Things were made worse when Leroy was involved in this.
Even though Reyna rejected Viola, Leroy still interfered in it.
Reyna couldn’t stop Leroy.
Reyna went back to the Imperial Garden from Ingrid’s grave. When she walked to the gate, she saw Julia busy looking for something in the mailbox.
Julia saw Reyna and said, “Miss Reyna, here you are.”
“Julia, what are you looking for?” Reyna asked.
People seldom wrote letters these days with the development of chatting applications. So the mailbox beside the gate of the Imperial Garden was just for decoration.
“A messenger called this morning. He said that there was a letter for you,” Julia said. And she soon found the letter as she spoke. Julia handed the letter to Reyna.
“Miss Reyna, this is for you,” Julia said.
“For me?” Reyna checked again.
“Yes,” Julia replied.
