- Chapter 282 - Misfortune and Salvation
“Leroy, actually, there is still a way.”
Leroy slowly raised his head and looked at Layton.
“Let go of her. And don’t disturb her anymore. Perhaps in this way, she will recover from the pain of her brother’s death one day…”
“That’s impossible. She is mine. She can only stay with me and even die in my arms!”
Layton was a little shocked. He tried to persuade Leroy and said, “It isn’t worthwhile to do that for a woman. You could find a better girl after leaving her.”
“Yes, just for a woman…” Leroy said in depression and lowered his eyes again.
He believed that everything can be negotiated and traded. So he would strive for anything profitable by any means.
But Reyna was different.
He wouldn’t let go of her.
Even if they could never be reconciled, he wouldn’t let go of her.
It was her misfortune to meet him.
And it was his salvation to meet her.
…
Reyna felt better the next day after being put on a drip.
But she still relied on nutrition solutions as she couldn’t eat anything.
She didn’t resist the eye treatment. It was difficult to identify her emotion as she just quietly followed the doctors’ words.
Happiness or sadness couldn’t be found on her face.
It seemed that she had lost basic feelings within a night. So she didn’t reveal any emotion.
Every day, she silently sat on the bed or even on the ground with her back against the edge of the bed, holding a harmonica.
She isolated herself from the world and was immersed in her memory of Lance.
No one could disturb them, and no one would disturb them.
She always had the harmonica with her day and night, as if she was accompanied by Lance. Because the harmonica was the carrier of her memory of Lance.
However, she didn’t look better as time passed by.
Hearing what Layton said, Leroy hired a senior psychologist for Reyna.
When the psychologist came, Leroy was dealing with an emergency in the company. So Julia led her to Reyna’s room.
“Hello, my name is Wendy, a psychologist.”
“Come in, please. Please help Miss Reyna,” Julia said.
Wendy had a gray office bag in her hand, which was full of documents about her patients. And she had heard about Reyna’s condition.
So she knew that Reyna suffered from a psychological repulsion to food. So she would spit whatever she ate.
Wendy had dealt with many kinds of diseases. But she didn’t expect that Reyna’s condition was much worse than what she had heard about.
When she came to Reyna’s room, she was shocked to see the skinny woman sitting on the ground.
Reyna was quite emaciated.
She was all skin and bones.
Wendy was shocked merely at the first glance.
She entered the room.
She thought that Reyna would notice her coming since she was wearing a pair of high-heeled shoes. But Reyna didn’t have any reaction.
She didn’t turn around, either. She had the harmonica in her hand, with her head bowed.
As a psychologist, Wendy soon realized that the harmonica was the most precious thing for her.
Wendy put down the bag, half-crouched down, and softly said, “Miss Reyna?”
Reyna didn’t react until Wendy called her name several times.
She slowly turned around. Her eyes were wrapped in gauze. But Wendy knew that Reyna was looking at her.
In confusion.
Wendy reached out to her and said, “Hello, my name is Wendy. Are you Reyna?”
“Who… are you?” Reyna’s voice was so hoarse that as if her vocal cords were damaged.
Although Reyna’s voice didn’t sound clear, Wendy understood it as she was experienced.
“I am your psychologist, Wendy.”
“I… I’m not sick,” she struggled to say.
Wendy smiled and she was not surprised to hear that. Actually, all of her patients said they were not sick at first.
Most laymen believed that depression was a hypocritical behavior rather than an illness.
However, depression was indeed a type of illness.
But it was about psychological trauma.
Both physical and psychological injuries needed treatment.
“Miss Reyna, take it easy. Just treat me as your listener or a friend for a heart-to-heart talk.”
Wendy found that her cloth was loose as she was extremely thin. Her breastbone could be seen. And her little face, which was smaller than a hand, also looked skinny. The gauze seemed much bigger on her face.
Reyna lowered her head, silently stroking the harmonica.
Wendy looked at her harmonica and asked with a smile, “Miss Reyna, can you play the harmonica?”
“No, but Lance can.” Reyna shook her head.
Lance?
“He is your …”
“My younger brother.” Reyna paused as she recalled her happy memories and she couldn’t help smiling. “Lance is good at music. He can play the harmonica, the guitar, and many other instruments. And he is best at playing the piano. We made an appointment that he would take part in the Inslan International Piano Competition next year.”
Then she was about to cry. “But he never has the chance … never.”
Through a short conversation, Wendy was sure that Renay’s psychological trauma was all about her brother.
Leroy had provided a little information to Wendy, so she had to know more about Reyna in order to provide treatment.
However, since Renay was in a low spirit, Wendy didn’t continue to ask about Lance. They started to talk about other topics in which Reyna was interested.
Sitting on the carpet, they had chatted for more than two hours.
At noon, Julia came to the room and said, “Miss Reyna, it’s time to change the dressing.”
Reyna’s eyes needed to change dressings every day. And only when Julia came to tell her, would she stand up and lie on the bed.
Julia followed the doctors’ instructions to change dressings for Reyna.
Wendy stood beside Julia and watched. Later, she said, “Julia, let me help Miss Reyna.”
