- Chapter 35 - I've Been with Leroy, Won't You Mind?
After all, not long ago, he was so indifferent to her like a stranger.
“Nope. Take a seat. I’ll go and cook. Please stay for dinner.”
“Alright.”
During dinner, the atmosphere was unexpectedly harmonious. It had been a long time since Lance was so happy. He had been curiously asking Bentley about what happened in the past two years.
Lance also kept thanking Bentley for saving Reyna from the fire. They talked a lot, but Reyna did not speak much throughout the dinner.
She looked at Bentley’s arms from time to time. His white shirt could not cover the frightening scars.
After dinner, Lance went back to his room to practice the piano. Only the two were left in the living room. It was exceptionally quiet.
Bentley looked at her and laughed, “Reyna, I ate too much. Why don’t we go for a walk?”
He had noticed her hesitation.
She had a lot to ask him.
They really needed a good talk.
After they went downstairs, Bentley spoke first, “Sorry, I didn’t recognize you at Queen’s Hotel.”
“I want to know the reason. Bentley, it’s been two years. I always thought you were dead. When I heard that you were still alive, I was shocked, but in the end, you didn’t choose to recognize me.”
Reyna knew him very well. He must have a reason for this.
She did not believe that the man who loved her so much would turn a blind eye to her.
The man stopped. After the fire, his vocal cords were damaged so his voice was hoarse. “At that time, I just returned to the Deckers. I haven’t got a firm foothold. Also, my family had a lot of enemies and I didn’t want to get you involved.”
“Then … what about Isabelle?”
“The Clarks always had a business relationship with my family. They both hope to become one family, but in fact, I have no feelings for Isabelle. Reyna, if you mind it, I’ll go back and explain to the Clarks immediately and cancel the engagement.”
“Bentley, you have a reason. I’m very happy that you explained it to me.”
However, they could not get back.
Regardless of whether Leroy would let go, or whether Bentley liked Isabelle.
“Bentley, after I graduated, something happened to my Family. My father jumped off the building and committed suicide. His company was acquired and large debts kept pressuring me. During that time, I even had trouble finding a place to live.” Her voice was weak. “So I went to work in Full Bloom Club, because that’s the only place where I can earn quick money to relieve the stress in my life. But then my younger brother had a conflict with others and destroyed some equipment there. I didn’t have any money to pay. In addition, the debt collector found the studio where I worked and I almost lost my life. I had no choice but to ask Leroy to save us … Bentley, I thought you were dead at that time, so I agreed to Leroy. I’m sorry…”
“I know, I understand. It’s too late for me to know the truth.”
For some reason, Reyna immediately burst into tears.
He was still the same as before. He was considerate and would forgive her in everything.
He wrapped her hand with his, just like what he did that winter. Back then, he was worried that she would feel freezing. He held her hands tightly and rubbed them to relieve her coldness. “I’m sorry, Reyna. I was angry when I found out you were Leroy’s woman, but I realized that I had made a mistake. I’m sorry for what I said to you.”
Reyna shook her head. It was indeed uncomfortable to hear that, but she had never blamed him.
After all, he was the one who saved her life back then, and with this alone, it was enough to offset anything bad he had done to her.
They talked a lot. Bentley talked about his treatment abroad for the past two years. Reyna told him about the change in the Herrings after she graduated.
Two years later, they talked again as they sat together peacefully and intact, which made Reyna feel that she was in another world.
Back then, Bentley specially booked a five-star restaurant to celebrate her birthday. She was very happy and touched.
However, the gas in the restaurant leaked and a fire broke out. They were trapped in the fire and could not escape.
In that critical moment, it was Bentley who blocked the flames for her and covered her mouth and nose with the only wet cloth so she could survive.
However, the fire was very big. Reyna’s waist was also burned, and there were still scars there.
Her injuries weren’t serious, but it wasn’t the case for Bentley. In order to protect her, more than 80% of his body was burned. His body was bloody and almost no parts of his body were intact.
Reyna clearly remembered that the lights in the operating room were on for a long time. After 18 hours of rescue, the hospital announced his death.
Gia couldn’t stand the blow and fainted and Reyna almost passed out from crying. The entire corridor was filled with her sorrowful cries.
Bentley was wrapped in gauze and was pushed into the morgue. Reyna cried as she followed him. She saw his eyes tightly closed. She wanted to touch his body, but she was worried that it would rip his wounds, and in the end, she gave up.
After Bentley died, Reyna had a high fever for a week because of excessive sadness. She was on the verge of death several times, but in the end, she still survived.
The Deckers did not allow Reyna to attend Bentley’s funeral. She last saw Bentley at the morgue.
That year, she lived like a walking dead. For her, life was worse than death. If Bentley hadn’t told her to live, she wouldn’t have made it.
It had been two years, and every time she thought of the fire and what the man said to her, her heart would ache.
“Reyna, promise me that you will live, okay?”
This was the last thing he said to her before he closed his eyes.
“Reyna.” Bentley took her hand and said sincerely, “Can we … go back?”
Reyna was brought back to reality and she looked up at him. He had undergone many skin grafting operations because of the large area of burns on his body, and there were two deep scars on his left arm.
His face after plastic surgery was very different from the face in her memory, but at least, his face was recovering very well, and it looked almost no different from a normal person’s.
However, even though his face had changed greatly, Reyna was still able to confirm at first glance that he was Bentley.
Because his rarely seen light blue eyes were the best evidence.
The Deckers had mixed-race ancestors. This was a trait inherited by some of the children from the family.
“Bentley, I’ve been with Leroy, won’t you mind?”
