- Chapter 55 - The Last Glimmer of Hope Was Gone
Julia was worried a lot and asked the butler to bring the medical kit over. Then she went downstairs to persuade Reyna.
Julia took an umbrella and ran to the fountain. To protect Reyna from the rain, she put the umbrella up over Reyna’s head.
“Miss Reyna, the water in the pool flows through the holes. The ring may have gone with the water. Let’s go back first. We will look for it tomorrow, okay?”
“No…” She pushed Julia’s hands away. “I must find the ring. I can’t lose it… I really can’t…”
Through her trembled teeth, Julia heard her voice weak. Nevertheless, she wouldn’t go back without finding that ring.
Julia was still trying to persuade, “Miss Reyna, you can’t be outside anymore with the rain. You will catch a cold! Come on up.”
Reyna ignored Julia. She kept squatting in the pool, scrabbling around to search for the ring.
For three hours, Reyna hadn’t stopped, but she still didn’t find it when she was worn out, even when the rain stopped.
The last glimmer of hope was gone. In the end, Reyna couldn’t control her emotions. She buried her face deep into her legs and burst into tears.
Crying for a while, she heard someone drawing near. Then she could feel his hands touching her. With the water in the pool splashing out, the man carried her in his arms.
Her eyes clouded with tears, but Rayna saw Leroy’s wicked face through the blurred vision. At that moment, she went ape and struggled to get rid of the man.
“Let go of me… bastard, don’t touch me … let me go!” Reyna wriggled around. The water splashed onto Leroy’s injured arm and soaked the white gauze. The blood immediately seeped through the gauze and stained it red.
Ignoring Reyna’s cries and struggles, Leroy held her tightly. Then he carried her out of the pool and went upstairs.
On the second floor, Leroy had hardly released her when Reyna rushed into a corner. Like a hedgehog bristling its spines, Reyna stared at him with all the vigilance and abhorrence.
“Is he that important to you?” Leroy looked at her and said slowly.
Reyna didn’t say anything, so he turned around and went to the bathroom.
That night, Reyna refused to touch Leroy and go to bed. She just crouched in the corner.
Reyna had been outside in the rain for several hours and stayed there in wet clothes all night long.
After midnight, she could not stand it and had a high fever.
Rather than the master bedroom on the second floor, Leroy went to the side room to rest but he couldn’t fall asleep.
After midnight, he got up and went to the master bedroom to see Reyna, only to find that she slept in the corner.
He walked towards her. Afraid of waking her up, Leroy moved gingerly. He knew Reyna wouldn’t let him touch her if she was awake. Standing in front of her, he bent down to carry her to the bed. When his fingers touched her skin, he was shocked to find that her body was burning hot.
She was running a fever.
Leroy called her several times, but Reyna did not respond to him. Obviously, she was unconscious.
Leroy immediately carried Reyna to the bed and called Layton in the middle of the night.
Layton came to the Imperial Garden. Upon touching Reyna’s forehead, he was shocked too, “It is so hot. What’s wrong with you? What did you do to her?”
“Cut the crap! Find a way to reduce the fever!”
Layton did as he said. He used the physical way and prescribed a few bottles of antipyretic medicine.
Even though Reyna was in a coma, her eyebrows still furrowed.
The fever reduced a lot after Reyna was put on a drip, but she was still unconscious.
She seemed to be exhausted, or perhaps she didn’t want to wake up. Her eyes were tightly closed and she had been asleep. Her little face was pale, but at least she slept tighter than before.
Although the fever reduced a lot, she still had a slight fever. As a doctor, Layton was always careful with his patients, so he stayed in the Imperial Garden, just in case.
Early in the morning the next day, Layton who was sleeping on the sofa woke up by the noise in the hall.
He rubbed his eyes and looked at his watch. It was exactly six o’clock.
Layton stood up and went upstairs to check Reyna’s condition. Her body temperature had gone down, but she was still unconscious.
Heaving a sigh of relief, Layton went downstairs and walked out of the hall.
“Mr. Layton, you get up? How is Miss Reyna?” Julia asked.
“The fever was brought down. Oh, where’s Leroy? I didn’t see him.”
“Mr. Leroy has been taking care of Miss Reyna all night. He just went to take a bath.”
Layton nodded. Last night, Leroy took care of Reyna for the whole night. He basically didn’t come out of the bedroom in the second half of the night.
Layton really couldn’t figure out what Leroy was thinking. If he cared about her so much, why did he hurt her like this?
Julia prepared the breakfast and served the dishes. Layton was enjoying his meal when Leroy came down from the second floor.
Upon noticing Leroy’s arm, Layton was shocked. He stood up and checked, “Leroy, what happened to your arm?”
Layton didn’t see his arm because Leroy wore a long-sleeved bathrobe that covered his arms last night and Layton was focusing on Reyna.
Now he saw that his arm was bleeding again.
Layton said angrily, “You really don’t want this hand, do you? It is bleeding again and you don’t even use any medicine!”
After saying that, he quickly got up and brought over the medical kit to help him deal with it.
Layton saw the tooth print on Leroy’s arm and asked, “Damn it, who did it? I almost can see your bone through the wound.”
“She bit it.”
“No wonder.” Layton understood and sincerely said, “Leroy, you are really a masochist.”
Leroy rolled his eyes upwards and said, “Get out of the Imperial Garden if you say that once again!”
Layton shut up.
Layton applied the medicine to his arm and bandaged it up. He left after telling Leroy to take care of himself.
Layton had to go back and get some sleep. Every time, Leroy called him over at midnight. Even if Layton was the superman, he needed to rest.
Reyna slept for a whole day and night. By the time she woke up, it was night again.
When she moved a bit, she felt giddy and all her boy was aching. She opened her eyes and saw the pinpricks on the back of her hand. The memories gradually unfolded in her mind.
With everything that happened last night, Reyna looked so disappointed.
She felt thirsty and got out of bed. But there was no water in the room, so she had to go downstairs to get some water.
Even though the fever had been reduced, her legs still felt weak.
The lights in the hall on the first floor had already been turned off. Julia and other maids must have fallen asleep.
She didn’t dare to make any noise, so she walked down the stairs by the flashlight on her smartphone.
As Reyna descended to the last stair, she suddenly lost her footing. As she waved her hands to keep the balance, her phone fell to the ground and the ceramic was thrown out by the force of inertia. Yet she failed. She was about to fall.
At this critical moment, a man showed up at the staircase and supported her.
