- Chapter 78 - He Apologizes to Her for the First Time
Reyna turned to look at Bertram. He stretched out his hand and unfolded. There was a medicine bottle. “This medicine cures bruising well. You can use it on your neck.”
Reyna unconsciously touched her neck. She could still feel the man’s powerful hands pinching her neck.
She answered, “Thank you.”
Bertram looked at her and hesitated to say something, but in the end, he just smiled and didn’t say a word.
Reyna left the hospital.
The next day, Leroy woke up and felt better.
Layton stood by Leroy’s bed with a notebook in his hand. He said, “I checked and found that there is indeed a poison called SIAI in your body. This poison exists in sparsely populated villages. The ingredients are mainly from plants. Victims will have symptoms of hallucination, violence, and sudden fever.”
“Is it deadly? Can you remove the toxins out of him?” Ethen asked.
“I checked but I don’t see any lethal ingredients. However, the poison has many side effects. It can inflict extreme pain to the poisoned and even death. It is also addictive. But there is no cure for it now. You can only rely on your willpower to suppress it and finally get rid of it.”
“Nonsense.” Leroy snorted.
Layton chuckled, “Leroy, I think you should be glad that those people didn’t inject the deadly poison into you. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even have the chance to sit here and talk.”
It seemed that what they wanted was not Leroy’s death but to let him be controlled by the poison and be tortured to death.
Layton stretched out his hand towards Ethen and asked, “Do you still have that syringe on you? Give it to me. I need to take it back and study it. I’ll inform you of the results.”
Ethen handed it to Layton, “Can we find an antidote?”
“It’s hard to say.”
Ethen didn’t reply.
Reyna came to the hospital.
After she pushed open the ward door, she saw a group of people gathering by Leroy’s bed discussing something.
Hearing someone came in, they all turned to look at Reyna. Layton tugged at Ethen’s sleeve and said, “Ethen, let’s go. I still have a lot about the poison to ask you.”
“I need to stay here.”
“Let’s go. As long as she’s here, everything is fine. Mr. Leroy doesn’t want you here.”
Ethen was pulled out of the ward by Layton.
Reyna put down the lunch box and didn’t dare to walk over. She stood a meter away from his bed and said, “Are you … are you alright?”
It was only afterward that Leroy remembered what happened last night.
His gaze landed on her neck, which still had faint red marks. He apologized to her, “Sorry, last night … I lost control and I’m sorry.” It was the first time he apologized to a woman.
Reyna was stunned. She raised her eyes to look at him. He looked serious and Reyna saw something unfamiliar in his eyes.
What was that?
Leroy felt sorry for what he had done to her.
Reyna did not expect that Mr. Leroy would say sorry one day.
“I’m fine,” Reyna said, yet still standing afar.
She was so scared that night. She was still afraid of him when she got close to him now.
Leroy also sensed it and did not force her. He said, “You can go out now. I will eat later.”
Without hesitation, Reyna turned around and quickly left the ward.
Looking at the slender figure fading away, Leroy’s face was dark as if he were lost in thought.
The SIAI’s attack time was irregular, and Leroy was still unable to control it.
Since Leroy came to the hospital a week ago, the poison only worked that night, and so far, there was no symptom of another attack.
Leroy was discharged from the hospital. And Reyna was gradually not afraid.
Leroy was poisoned because of her. She couldn’t just leave him alone.
Leroy rested at home for two days before returning to work.
Life seemed to be brought to normal. The only thing that bothered Reyna was that Leroy would put her in his arms every night when sleeping.
He wouldn’t do anything to her, nor would he force her to do it. He really just hugged her.
One day, after a day’s work, Reyna came back late and was very tired. But as soon as the man went to bed, he lifted his long arms and pulled her into his arms. His legs controlled her legs, and he hugged her tightly like a koala bear.
Reyna couldn’t stand it. She wasn’t used to such an intimate gesture. Also, it was difficult for her to breathe when she was hugged by him like that.
“Leroy, let go of me. I’m stifling.” Reyna struggled in his arms.
Leroy did not open his eyes. He frowned slightly, but his hands loosened.
But he still controlled her.
“Leroy, can I go out to sleep?”
Leroy finally opened his eyes. He stared straight at her. In the dim room, his dark eyes seemed to be blended with the darkness.
Reyna was stunned. Even in the darkness, Reyna could still sense his aggressiveness.
Reyna did not expect Leroy would agree, but after looking at her for a while, Leroy really let go of her.
Reyna was stunned.
“What? You don’t want to go?” Leroy leaned toward her and said, “Never mind, we’ll sleep like this…”
“Wait!” Reyna tried to push him away but rolled off the bed.
A muffled snort came from the ground. Reyna was speechless.
She just wanted to get out of the bed, but she rolled down on the ground.
Leroy turned on the bedside lamp and the orange light lit up Reyna.
Leroy leaned over to face her, propped his head with one hand, and looked at her, “You are excited, aren’t you?”
Reyna stood up and glared at him before leaving the room angrily.
She went to the side room. When she was about to go to bed, she realized that Julia had washed the quilt, and it hadn’t dried yet. She was so angry just now that she forgot to bring out her quilt and pillow.
Then it left her with no choice.
She went back. Since she was worried she would awake him, Reyna was creeping over.
She crept to the bedside and gently picked up her staff. Just as she was about to leave, a muffled groan of pain sounded.
Reyna paused and turned to look at the man on the bed.
In the dark room, only a tall black figure could be vaguely seen. But the body started to tremble, and the painful screaming started to get louder.
Was the poison working?
