Following the episode.
After calling the ambulance, I entered the room. “Aunt, they’re on their way,” I said.
Auntie was taken aback when she heard me. It perplexed me to see her in this state. Why is she behaving in this manner? “Aunt, what’s wrong?” I asked, as I grasped her arms.
“It’s nothing, love,” Auntie remarked with a shake of her head. However, I observed that her voice was trembling. But why is that?
I said to her, “Nothing will happen to mom, aunt.” Please don’t act this way. Mom will be alright, “
Aunt nodded quickly when she heard me.
Is she concerned about my mother’s health? “Auntie, please assist me in seating her,” I requested.
My aunt gratefully accepts mom’s hand in hers. Mom, on the other hand, gradually opened her eyes. She is aware of her surroundings. She called me as “baby.”
“Yes, mom,” I promptly said.
“I don’t want to go to the hospital, baby,” she said weakly.
I begged. “Please, Mom, just relax.”
“Just relax.” Nothing will happen to you because I am with you, “I assured her once again as I clutched her hands tightly. But in the meantime, an ambulance arrived.
They brought Mom along. My auntie and I will also accompany her. Mom was holding my hand the entire time. Her temperature was a bit on the high side.
I had no idea what had just happened with her, or if she had kept something from me. I cast a sidelong glance at my aunt. Her eyes were filled with worry and anxiety. Her thoughts were clearly evident on her face as she was pondering something. Her eyes were welling up with tears. She tried but failed to hold back her tears. Her gaze was fixed on my mom.
We arrived at the hospital within 15 minutes. The doctor examined her right away and instructed a nurse to admit her immediately. But, before leaving, she looked at my aunt and gave a dismissive nod.
What did she mean by that? Is she familiar with my aunt?
I approached my aunt and said, “Aunt, does she know who you are?” My aunt was taken aback when she heard me.
Aunt: she? No.. I mean. She knows me. We actually came here before.
“You guys came here?” I said, my eyes furrowed.
The aunt was about to say something, but suddenly a guy came to us and said, “ The doctor is calling you.” “Please come right now.”
My aunt’s face was pale as I gazed at her.
I averted my attention from her and proceeded to the doctor’s chamber. My heart is now pounding as a result of the tension. I had a feeling something horrible was about to happen to my mom.
I walked into her room. “What’s your name?” she asked as I walked in.
Me: Sheetal.
I remarked, my voice trembling.
My aunt entered the room as well. The doctor shifted her eyes from my aunt to me.
“Doctor, what happened to my mom?” I asked.
She returned her gaze to my aunt before turning to face me. I returned my gaze to my aunt. She, on the other hand, glanced down right away. I was really taken away when I saw them.
The doctor abruptly declared, “Sheetal, your mother has run out of time.”
“What?” I mumbled as I peered at her. I think I misheard her. So I asked the same question again.
“Doctor, what did you mean by it?” I asked. I felt a hand on my shoulders.
My aunt called me “love.” But I was completely unaware of her existence. I fixed my gaze on the doctor. She nodded and sighed.
The Doctor: Sheetal, your mom has cancer. And she was aware of this; in fact, she was receiving therapy here.
My heart stopped beating as soon as I heard her. It felt as though someone had grabbed my neck. I couldn’t trust what I was seeing and hearing. My thoughts began to whirl around in my brain. Everything was making me dizzy. It stung when I touched my head.
It isn’t true; perhaps they misinterpreted something.
“Doctor, I think you people misread something,” I said after taking a deep breath. Please double-check this. “ I was stuttering.
Sheetal’s aunt pressed her lips and eyes together. Water is already dripping down her cheek. She cried out her name, “Sheetal.” Sheetal, on the other hand, seemed to be completely oblivious to it, as if she couldn’t hear anything.
The doctor stood up and took a seat next to Sheetal. “ Sheetal, I’ve known your mom for the last year and a half,” she added, holding her hands together. “She is getting treatment at this hospital.”
Sheetal’s gaze was fixed on the doctor.
Doctor: I can’t say anything because I’m at a loss for words. I understand how difficult it is to accept. I told your mother to inform you of everything.
But, she said, now is not the appropriate moment. She didn’t want to be a bother to you.
Sheetal’s point of view.
Every word the doctor said reverberated in my head. I was sitting there like a statue.
Aunt: honey.
She was in tears. I regained my senses as her warm tears landed on my left hand. My hands trembled, and I gazed down at the water. Without glancing at her, I asked the doctor.
Me: Is there any possibility she might leave to survive?
My eyes welled up with tears as my voice quivered.
The doctor gave Sheetal’s aunt a sidelong glance, but she nodded. She nodded to indicate that she would not tell Sheetal the truth.
The doctor remarked, with a casual nod, “Sheetal, I believe she has a chance.” She was taken to the observation room by us. “
“I’m hopeful she’ll get better soon.” I looked up at the hearing doctor.
With a smile on my face, I asked her while weeping.
Me: Ok, so she’ll be alright, right?
The doctor nodded and smiled softly.
Doctor: All you have to do now is concentrate on your exam. It’s your mom’s dream, you know. When your mom hears that you’ve gotten the opportunity, she’ll be happy.
I gave a quick nod.
Doctor: Then? Prepare yourself, Sheetal, for your exam tomorrow.
