- Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 Small Disagreement
In New York, Rebecca went to visit Gabriella at her penthouse. She was scrolling through Newser waiting for the elevator to arrive at the top floor of the building. When the elevator doors opened, Rebecca walked inside the penthouse.
She was greeted by Gabriella and they both walked to the living room. “Tell me, dear, what brings you here?” Gabriella asked as they both took a seat on the couch. “That bitch, Caroline. She keeps seducing Liam. I just don’t know what to do.”
Gabriella placed her hand on top of Rebecca’s and said, “how is that possible? Liam is engaged to you.”
“I know, but he just keeps going back to her. It’s as if she placed a spell on him or something.” Gabriella chuckled before saying, “no, that is not it, dear. That’s just how that family is filled with snakes that seduce men who are taken… But worry not, dear. I will help you get her out of Liam’s life because you are the only one I accept as my daughter-in-law.”
Rebecca instantly hugged Gabriella and said, “thank you.” Gabriella responded, “of course, dear. You deserve to be happy. Especially after giving me the most beautiful grandson, I could ever ask for.”
Back in Miami, after enjoying dinner, Caroline and Persephone sat in the living room to converse while Charles and Sebastian were in the playroom with the children. Persephone looked around the living room and commented, “I really like your new home.”
“Thank you,” Caroline responded. “How come Mark and Taekyung are not here?”
“I invited them but when I called Taekyung, he said they were going on a date.”
“I see. Who could have thought those two would end up together? It feels like it was only yesterday when I was giving Mark relationship advice. Time sure flies,” Persephone commented. “You gave Mark relationship advice?”
“Yes, I did. Is there a problem?” Caroline laughed and responded, “You’ve never been in a relationship until now and he still listened to you?” They both laughed and after a pause, Caroline added, “when do you plan on getting married?”
Persephone choked on the wine she was drinking after hearing Caroline’s words. She cleared her throat and responded, “I don’t think I can answer that question. Charles and I just began dating.”
“But you are planning on marrying him in the future.” Persephone looked down at the wine glass in her hands and watched her reflection on the red wine. She smiled and responded, “yes, I am planning on marrying him in the future.”
“What if Chuck wanted to get engaged right now, but he would be willing to wait a while longer for the wedding?”
“I’d say yes.”
“Without second thoughts?”
“Without second thoughts.” Caroline smiled and quietly took a sip of the wine from the wine glass she held in her hand. She took another sip as she watched Charles step inside the living room.
He walked closer to Persephone and sat next to her. He placed his hand on her thigh Caroline looked at them with a small grin. “Are you two planning on having another one?” Charles answered, “another child? We don’t have any plans at the moment. We just want to focus on us and Achilles.”
“That’s good, but don’t take too long focusing on yourselves. I want to have a niece.” Persephone looked at Charles as she placed her hand on his thigh. “You know I can’t disappoint my best friend.” He placed his hand on top of hers and answered, “well, we can continue practicing until the time is right.”
Feeling awkward after hearing Charles’ words, Caroline stood up from the couch and voiced, “it is getting late and the kids have school tomorrow. I will go get Achilles.” She walked out of the living room and walked to the playroom, where she found the children lying next to Sebastian on the couch as he read them a book.
He stopped reading as soon as he noticed Caroline walk inside the room and placed his finger over his mouth, signaling to not make any noise. Caroline waited for a second until Sebastian managed to stand up. She stepped closer to the couch and gently picked Achilles up from the couch.
Caroline walked out of the playroom with Achilles in her arms as Sebastian followed behind her. Caroline was about to step into the living room when she found Charles and Persephone kissing. She instantly turned around, but almost bumped into Sebastian.
“What happened? Are you okay?” He whispered. Caroline looked at the child in her arms to ensure he had not woken up. She nodded. They stayed there, looking into each other’s eyes for a while and as Sebastian slowly leaned closer to her, Caroline turned around and walked in on the couple kissing.
She stood in front of them, waiting for them to notice her. They separated from the kiss and looked at the angry woman in front of them before looking at the child sound asleep in her arms.
They stood up from the couch and Caroline whispered, “I will take him to your car.” Persephone nodded as Caroline made her way to the front door. Charles and Persephone said goodbye to Sebastian before walking out of Caroline’s mansion.
After Charles and Persephone left, Caroline and Sebastian took the twins to their rooms. They stood at the entrance saying goodbye to each other. “Thank you for everything, Teddy.”
“Anytime.” Caroline smiled and he smiled back. His smile quickly disappeared when his phone began to buzz inside his pocket. He looked into her eyes one more time and said, “take care of yourself, Care Bear.”
“You too, Teddy.” Sebastian leaned closer to her and pressed a sweet peck against her forehead. Sebastian walked out of the mansion as Caroline watched him leave. Once the butler closed the front door, Caroline climbed up the stairs and went to her bedroom.
In a restaurant located in Brickell, Mark and Taekyung were sitting in front of each other without saying a word. Taekyung had planned to make up with Mark on this date. “So? What is it that you wanted to tell me?” Mark asked.
“Mark, please, don’t be mad at me anymore-.”
“I’m not mad at you. If I were, I wouldn’t be here with you right now.”
“Then, why are you so distant? Why didn’t you want to have dinner at the penthouse?”
“I will not go there until you tell me what is in that room.” Taekyung looked down at his hand and saw the ring on his finger. “How about this? I show you what is inside the room after we get married.”
Seeing Taekyung’s expression made Mark’s heartthrob. He just wanted to tell him everything was fine and go back into his arms but he also felt the need to stand his ground. Mark responded, “fine, but I will not be living there until we get married.”
“If that is what it takes to get you to stop being mad at me, I’ll accept-.”
“You will also not be living there. We will continue living at the mansion until we get married.”
“Deal.” Mark smirked. “Are you that desperate to keep me by your side?”
“I just don’t like it when we fight.”
“This was not a fight, Taekyung. We just had a small disagreement.” Taekyung grabbed Mark’s hands and said, “let’s not have any more disagreements.” Mark chuckled and said, “okay.”
The next day, Caroline had just finished reading a document when her assistant knocked on the door. “Come in,” Caroline spoke. Joseph stepped inside her office with a tray in his hands. He walked over to her desk and placed her perfectly brewed tea on her desk. “Any important news for today?” Caroline asked as she took a sip of the tea.
“Not really. One of the managers resigned today. We have tried to contact him, but it seems he has disappeared off the phase of the earth. In the email we received from Mr. Ruiz, he said he was moving to another country.”
“That’s strange,” Caroline spoke, “but it is not something we should be concerned about. Just find a replacement.”
“Yes, Ms. King.” Joseph bowed his head and left Caroline’s office. ‘Mr. Ruiz… what happened to you? It seems someone has already gone out of their way to deal with you,’ Caroline thought.
Three months later, Mark was pacing back and forth around the suite as he spoke, “I can’t- I can’t do it. I can’t marry him.” As he walked around losing his mind, Caroline quietly watched him, waiting for him to stop being so anxious.
“I can’t-.” Caroline let out a sigh and stood up from the lounge chair she was sitting. She walked up to him and placed her hands on his shoulders. “Can you stop saying that already?”
“I don’t think I should marry him, Caroline. It’s too soon.”
“Listen to me. The ceremony starts in an hour. Your future husband is in the other room, eagerly waiting to marry you. You will not back out now. You might be nervous, but everything will be fine as soon as you walk out of those doors. Plus, you did not make all of us come to Italy to a wedding you want to cancel just because you are a bit anxious.”
“Didn’t you feel like this when you got married?” Caroline laughed as she shook her head. “Not really. I didn’t have time to have second thoughts. After all, I found out I was getting married when that asshole took me to the courthouse.”
“It seems like brother-in-law doesn’t know how to be romantic.”
“It was an arranged marriage and we are not married anymore so stop calling him that.”
“I won’t stop calling him that. You two were made for each other.” Caroline rolled her eyes. “Enough about me. You need to focus on yourself. This is your day. Today is the day you will marry my best friend, got it?” Mark nodded.
“Good. Remember all the time you spent practicing your vows. Now-.” Elizabeth opened the doors of the suite and walked inside, looking for Mark. “The photographer is waiting,” she spoke. “Where are the twins?” Caroline asked. “They wanted to play with Sebastian in the garden.”
Caroline looked at Mark once again and placed her hand over his shoulder. “You will be alright.” Then, she walked out of the suite, leaving her brother and mother by themselves. Elizabeth stepped closer to Mark as she commented, “I cannot believe you are getting married already. It feels like yesterday when you were just a baby, resting in my arms. And look at you now. You have grown into a fine young man.”
Elizabeth pulled Mark into a hug and said, “I love you, Mark.”
“I love you too, mom.” Elizabeth pressed a peck against his cheek before pulling him into another tight hug. “Don’t cry, mom.”
“I can’t help it. My little baby is getting married.” Mark chuckled and said, “I am not a baby anymore.”
“But you will always be my little baby. No matter how old or how tall you get.” Mark smiled and nodded. He wiped off a tear running down Elizabeth’s cheek before saying, “let’s go take some pictures.”
As soon as Mark opened the door, the door to the suite next door also opened. Mark and Taekyung stood in the middle of the hallway looking at each other. They smiled at each other. Mark felt his anxiety fade away after seeing his future husband.
Taekyung walked closer to Mark. He grabbed Mark’s hand and brought it closer to his lips. Taekyung pressed a peck on Mark’s hand and then said, “let’s go.”
An hour later, the guests were talking as they waited for the ceremony to begin. Caroline was looking around the beautiful castle ruins for her family and friends when she found Liam, standing in front of her. “Liam?”
“Caroline.”
“What are you doing here?” Caroline asked. “I invited him,” Mark responded as he stepped closer to them. “Thank you for coming, brother-in-law,” Mark added as he greeted Liam. “Thank you for the invitation.”
The two men looked at Caroline and she faked a smile. She grabbed Mark’s hand and pulled him away from Liam. As they walked away Caroline murmured, “you are such a traitor.”
“I thought you would be happy for me – today is my special day and I decided to spend it with my dearest friends and family.” Caroline stopped walking and stood in front of him. She looked at him dead in the eye and said, “cut the bullshit. How much is he paying you? I’ll double whatever he is paying you if you kick him out.”
“He is not paying me anything. He is here because he is my friend and I chose to invite him.” Taekyung stepped closer to them as he asked, “invite who?” Mark replied, “Caroline is pissed because I invited Liam.”
“I’m not pissed, I was just taken by surprise.” Caroline looked over at the man talking with Sebastians and she added, “it seems he didn’t bring his little plaything with him.” Caroline smirked as she continued to stare at him.
Elizabeth walked over to them along with Persephone and the children. “Everything is ready. We’re just waiting for you two,” Elizabeth spoke. Mark and Taekyung looked at each other and smiled. They looked over that the guests, who were already sitting, waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Taekyung looked at the children holding some small baskets with white rose petals. He crouched down and asked, “are you guys ready?” The kids nodded, making him smile. He stood back up and looked at Mark once again.
“There is no backing out now.” Mark grabbed his hand and placed it closer to his lips. He pressed a peck on the back of his hand as he answered, “I wouldn’t even consider backing out.” Mark gave him a reassuring smile and Taekyung leaned closer. He pressed a peck on Mark’s forehead before whispering, “let’s get married.”
Taekyung let go of Mark’s hand and walked over to the altar. Caroline and Persephone dressed in matching dresses watched as Taekyung stood in front of the crowd before looking at Mark. “Are you ready, Mark?” Persephone asked. Mark nodded.
The children lined up and walked down the aisle while throwing the white rose petals on the floor. Right after the kids walked down the aisle, Persephone followed behind them and Caroline walked after her.
Persephone stood on the left side of the altar as Caroline walked over to the right side, where Taekyung was standing. The music started and Mark and Elizabeth stood at the beginning of the aisle. All the guests stood up as they slowly walked to the altar.
Once at the Altar, Elizabeth hugged Mark before hugging Taekyung and taking a seat on the chair next to Achilles. Mark and Taekyung looked at each other, completely ignoring the world around them.
Forgetting where they were standing, they completely ignored the officiant marrying them. Once it was time for the vows, Caroline opened the small jewelry box she had in her hand and stepped closer to Taekyung. He grabbed the ring from the small box and held it in his hand as he tightly held Mark’s hand with his other hand.
“Mark King, you have shown me a new light. You have shown me unconditional love. You have accepted me for who I am. But most importantly, you have taught me how to love. On this special day, I promise to love you and cherish you with all my heart. I promise to stand by your side as you have always done for me. I promise to be the husband you deserve.”
Taekyung slowly placed the ring on Mark’s finger before looking into his eyes, which were about to burst into tears. Persephone stepped closer to Mark as she opened the small jewelry box she held in her hand, offering the wedding ring inside. Mark grabbed the wedding ring and stared into Taekyung’s eyes.
“Choi Taekyung, I never realized I had fallen for you the first time I saw you until I got older. I remember trying everything I could for you to notice me until I realized you only saw me as your friend’s little brother. Despite knowing that, I never gave up. I never gave up on the idea of you falling for me one day. I clung to the idea of you noticing me one day. The day you saw me as more than my sister’s little brother, I was the happiest man alive. 최태경, 온 마음으로 사랑합니다. Today I promise to continue loving you. From today on, I will be your husband.”
Mark slowly placed the ring on Taekyung’s finger as the officiant continued the ceremony. The ceremony came to a closing when Mark and Taekyung shared a kiss. The crowd stood from their seats as they clapped for the happiness of the newlyweds and for the beginning of their journey together as a married couple.
