- Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 I Will Never Forgive You
“I’m done with the chit-chat,” Roxy spoke. “Roxy, this is absurd.”
“You have always looked down on me, Caroline. Even now as I am pointing a gun at you, you still look down on me.”
“That is not true-.” Roxy pointed the gun to the side and fired it, cutting Caroline off. “Why do you continue to look down on me? Is it because of what you’ve taken from me?”
“We’re back to this? Roxy, I haven’t taken anything from you-.”
“You took the pocket watch from me. That was meant to be mine. I was supposed to be born first, but you were born premature. Even since birth you’ve been taking things from me. And now, now you’ve taken Sebastian from me. Why does he love you and not me? What is it that you have that I don’t?”
Sebastian slowly walked inside the warehouse and stepped closer to Caroline. Roxy looked at him before aiming the gun back at Caroline. “Roxy,” Sebastian spoke, “please. Put down the gun.”
Caroline looked at Sebastian and asked, “where is Mia?”
“She’s with Liam,” Sebastian whispered back. Once again, Roxy pointed the gun to the side, and pulled the trigger. Both Caroline and Sebastian turned to look at Roxy. “What is he doing here?” Roxy exclaimed.
Caroline looked at Sebastian and then back at Roxy. “I told him to come. Maybe he can get you to come to your senses. Plus, I need someone to keep me in check before I do anything impulsive.”
“I’m running out of time,” Roxy spoke, “Sebastian, take the pocket watch from Caroline and place it over there.” Sebastian and Caroline stared at each other for a moment before she handed him the gold chest. She took off her necklace and also gave it to him.
As he walked over to the side, Caroline shouted, “Sebastian, wait!” Caroline looked at Roxy and asked, “where is Mia?”
“Are you seriously trying to buy some time? You already know where she is, don’t you?” Roxy added, “So, just hand over the pocket watch.” Caroline nodded and Sebastian and he walked over to where Roxy had told him.
Liam slowly stepped inside the warehouse. He was nearing Caroline when Roxy slowly walked closer to Sebastian while smirking. “Are you happy now?” Caroline asked sarcastically. “Ecstatic,” Roxy responded.
Seeing how Caroline was sinking her nails onto her palm to calm herself, Liam stepped closer and gripped her wrist. Caroline instantly turned to look at him and tried to shake him off. Liam gripped harder, causing her mere efforts to be futile.
Caroline just glared at him and looked back at Roxy. “You got what you wanted, so I will leave. You better pray I don’t see a single scratch on Mia.” Roxy picked up the golden chest from the floor along with the key necklace.
She laughed and then commented, “doesn’t this remind you of the time you were kidnapped when you were younger?” Again, Caroline tried to shake Liam off, but he only gripped tighter. She turned to look at him and he just shook his head.
“What happened then? Are you worried the same thing happened to your little brat? What if I did hurt her? I mean there is nothing you can do. You are defenseless right now.” Caroline tried fighting the urge, but as Roxy continued to provoke her, she just gave in. She tried to run over to Roxy, but Liam pulled her by her wrist, wrapping his arm around her.
Roxy pointed the gun at Caroline and she shouted, “Liam! Let me go!” Caroline struggled to get free as she added, “that bitch kidnapped my daughter.”
“I know,” Liam whispered in her ear, trying to calm her down. “Let it go for right now.”
“He’s right, Caroline. Just give up already. I’ve won. There is nothing you can do. I got what I wanted.”
“You *****,” Caroline shouted, “this is why he will never love you. This is why I get everything and you don’t. This is why you will never be loved by anyone. Just like Maximo cheated on you, Sebastian will too because you don’t know how to satisfy a man. You can’t make them stay by your side.”
Filled with bitter rage, Roxy placed her finger on the trigger. Aiming the pistol at Caroline, she pulled the trigger. Caroline’s eyes forced shut when Liam had turned around to protect Caroline.
After the ringing sound in her ear subsided, Caroline slowly opened her eyes. She turned her head to the side, finding Roxy standing paralyzed with the pistol in her hand. Caroline looked down at the floor and found Sebastian lying on the floor. She instantly pushed Liam away.
Caroline ran over to Sebastian as Roxy slowly walked away before she started to sprint to the exit. Caroline placed her hand over Sebastian’s wound as tears ran down her face. “Sebastian!” She shouted. “Stay with me! Don’t you dare leave me. I will never forgive you if you do.”
Sebastian pressed his hand, covered in his own blood against her cheek. “Caroline,” he spoke in a croaky voice. “Shh… I’m right here.” Caroline looked at Liam who was still standing there in shock. “Call an ambulance!” She shouted, bringing him back to his senses.
As Liam dialed 911, Caroline looked back at Sebastian. He coughed out some blood, making Caroline remove some pressure from his wound. “Why would you take the bullet for me? I was the one provoking here,” Caroline spoke in a brittle voice. Sebastian smiled before coughing out some more blood.
“I needed to protect you,” he responded. Caroline’s tears fell down to his cheeks as she countered, “no, you didn’t.” Sebastian’s smile grew bigger. “Don’t waste any more time. Don’t be so stubborn. Stay with him.”
He coughed once more. Caroline tried to stop him from talking, but he added, “I love you, Caroline.” Caroline’s tears continued to pour. “I love you, too,” she responded. Sebastian’s hand slowly grazed against Caroline’s cheek before falling down to Carolie’s lap.
She stared at the lifeless man in front of her before shouting, “Sebastian! Sebastian! Sebastian. Don’t leave me. Sebastian!” Caroline tried to wake him up, but a paramedic picked her up. Bewildered, Caroline stood there watching the paramedics take care of Sebastian.
She watched the paramedics talk to each other while getting Sebastian into the ambulance, but she was not able to comprehend what they were saying. Her world completely stopped. She saw their lips move, but she could not hear the words coming out of their mouths.
After the ambulance left, Caroline still stood paralyzed. Liam stepped closer to her and embraced her in his arms, placing his hand over her head, burying her face against his chest. “Let’s go to the hospital,” he quietly voiced as he gently stroked her hair.
When they arrived at the hospital, Caroline hurried to the operation room. She stood in the waiting room, regretting not getting in the ambulance with Sebastian. As she paced back and forth, she would stop to ask each nurse that would walk out of the operation what Sebastian’s condition was. “He is in critical condition,” a nurse answered, while the other nurses did not say anything.
Caroline continued to walk around the room before taking a seat. She looked down at her periwinkle stilettos. She rested her elbows on her thighs as she ran her hands through her hair. “The police are here. They would like to question you,” said the man standing in front of her. Caroline lifted her face to meet Liam’s gaze.
She looked at him in the eyes and said, “Liam, do you think I want to talk to them right now? Sebastian is in there fighting for his life right now-.”
“I understand. I will tell them to leave.” Liam was about to walk away when Elizabeth hurried towards him. “How is he? Where is Caroline?” Liam pointed over at Caroline, who was seating on a chair, looking down at her feet.
Elizabeth walked over to Caroline and stood in front of her. “Liam’s assistant called me. What happened?” Caroline stood up from the chair and embraced her mother in her arms. “It’s Teddy… He-.”
Before Caroline could continue, a doctor walked out of the operation room. Caroline instantly stepped closer to the doctor and anxiously asked, “how is he?” The doctor took off his mask as he let out a sigh.
“We did everything we could.”
Feeling her world begin to crumble, Caroline slowly stepped back while still looking at the doctor. She could see his lips moving, but could not make out the words being emitted from his mouth. As she took another step back, she felt her legs give up. She lost her balance and fell to the ground.
She stayed seated on the floor as tears ran down her face. She bit her bottom lip and curled up her hands into fists, trying to suppress her rage before letting it consume her. She slowly stopped biting her lip and sinking her nails into her palm when she stopped herself from thinking of Roxy and blaming her for Sebastian’s death. Instead, she blamed herself.
She let out a soft whimper before placing her hands over her face, covering her eyes. She ran her hands through her silky hair, remembering Sebastian did not keep their promise. After the doctor finished explaining what happened, Liam looked at Caroline. He was unable to hold back his tears.
Feeling the pain of losing Sebastian, who she thought of as a son, Elizabeth looked around the waiting room and eventually met eyes with Liam. She stepped closer to Liam, who had just lost his friend. She looked down at the woman seating on the cold floor and voiced, “don’t hurt her anymore. She’s been through enough. Be there for her. Protect her.”
Liam smiled, letting another tear stream down his face. The same words played in his mind when he remembered having drinks with Sebastian before Caroline had called him. Liam walked over to Caroline and crouched down. He placed his head over her head and buried her face against his chest.
The sudden smell of the strong and familiar aroma brought her back from her thoughts. She slowly separated from Liam. She looked into his teary eyes before watching a teardrop stream down his cheek.
Caroline placed her hand over his cheek and wiped away the tear. “Liam,” she said in her tremulous voice. “It’s okay, Caroline. You don’t need to be here. I will take care of everything. Go home with your mother.” She shook her head, but before she could say a thing he added, “go home to your children. The twins need you right now.”
Liam stood up whilst holding Caroline’s hand, helping her stand up. Caroline stepped closer to her mother and rested her head against her shoulder. “It’s okay, muñeca. Everything is going to be okay. You just need to go home to your children.”
After finally convincing Caroline to go home, Liam called his assistant. He told him to drive Mia over to Caroline’s home as well as ordered him to send over some bodyguards to guard her house.
Even after going back to New York Liam still ordered Marcus to keep an eye on Caroline, trying to ensure her safety. He found out the location of Caroline’s current home. After imputing the address into the GPS, Marcus drove to Caroline’s mansion.
When Caroline finally got home, she got off the car and hurried towards the door, where she found Marcus holding Mia’s hand. Caroline picked up her little girl as a tear began to run down her cheek.
Caroline examined the little girl in her arms before embracing her in a hug. “Mommy? Why are you crying?” Caroline tightened her grip around Mia and spoke, “I’m just glad to see you are okay.” She pressed a peck on Mia’s cheek before breaking into tears. “Don’t cry, mommy.”
Caroline walked inside the mansion and desperately looked around for Ian and Achilles. She stood in the middle of the living room when she heard Ian calling her. She turned around and saw him running towards her.
Still holding Mia in her arms, Caroline crouched down and pulled Ian in for a hug. “My little angels.” She tightly held onto them as she told herself, ‘I will never let anything happen to you again… Let’s just stay like this a bit longer… I want to ensure that you two are fine and by my side.’
