After dinner, Caroline took the twins to their bedroom. She got them ready to go to bed before tucking them in and reading them a book. When the twins had fallen to sleep, she placed the book she read back on the bookshelf and made her way down to her study.
She walked to her desk and took a seat. She placed her cellphone down on top of the desk and the phone screen light up after getting a notification. Caroline looked down at her phone and grabbed her cellphone.
Out of curiosity, Caroline opened the Newser application and began to read Rebecca’s publication regarding her wedding. As Caroline read Rebecca’s words of excitement, she tightly held her cellphone in her hand, fighting the urge to throw it across the room.
She let out a chuckle and looked at the watch on her wrist. “I see you are still willing to marry her, even after being with me.” Caroline laid her phone on top of her desk. She stood up from the chair and walked over to the file cabinet in the corner of the study.
She opened the first drawer and looked through the papers inside the drawer. She took out a manila folder. She sat back down on her chair and picked up her cellphone. She dialed Charles’ phone number as she placed the manila folder down on the table.
“Charles,” Caroline spoke after the call got through, “can you come to my study. There is something I want to tell you.” Caroline hung up the call after Charles reluctantly agreed. She glanced at the folder on top of the desk and spoke, “this is it, Liam. This is what you get for choosing her.”
When Charles arrived at Caroline’s study, he knocked on the door and slowly opened it. Caroline looked at him and said, “take a seat.” He walked over to the couch and took a seat as Caroline instructed.
“I’d like to ask you for a favor.” He raised his eyebrow. “What is it?”
“I want you to go to Liam’s wedding.” Caroline stood up from the chair with the wedding invitation and the manila folder in her hands. She walked closer to him and handed him the wedding invitation. “I must be prepared for everything, so in the case something important happens at work and I can’t go… I want you to hand him this after he’s been married.”
After Caroline handed Charles the manila folder he asked, “what’s in it for me? Why can’t you make your assistant go?”
“Joseph is busy. While you have all the time in the world this weekend, so you get to take the twins on a trip to New York. I’ll cover the entire trip.” Caroline smiled, hoping Charles would agree.
“What makes you think I have nothing to do this weekend?”
“Because I know you.”
“Fair enough…” Charles thought for a moment and then agreed. “Tell me what exactly is it that you want.” Caroline sat next to him on the couch and began to explain the plan.
“Plan A is that we go together to Liam’s wedding and I will personally hand him these documents. If I can’t attend Liam’s wedding, we go to Plan B where you will have to take these documents to Liam and hand them over to him after he has gotten married. I don’t care when exactly, but it must be after he has married that *****.”
“Ouch coz, such hatred towards that woman.” Caroline gave him a death stare. “Okay, your plan doesn’t sound so bad. But why am I taking the twins with me?”
“That is for Plan A. The twins can never see Liam without me. Got it?”
“Yes, I got it.”
“Good.”
After Caroline and Charles finished talking about the details, they left the study. Caroline walked to her bedroom and went to her bathroom to take a shower. She got ready to go to bed. She then got in bed and went to sleep.
The next day, Caroline went to work as per usual. Everything was going according to her plan. The private jet was ready and Charles and the twins were already on their way to the airport. All she needed to do was meet them at the jet.
Caroline finished reading the document in her hands and signed it. She placed her pen down and stood up from her chair. She grabbed her handbag and began to walk towards the door. She placed her hand on the door handle and opened the door.
When she opened the door, she found her assistant in front of her, about to knock on the door. “I’m leaving early today.”
“Ms. King, I’m afraid you cannot leave at the moment.”
“Why? I have things to do.”
“The CEO from EVU is here to see you.”
“Reschedule.”
“Ms. King, I am afraid we cannot afford to reschedule or cancel this meeting.” Caroline let out a sigh. “Give me a few seconds. I have a call to make.” Joseph nodded and Caroline reached into her indicolite handbag. She fetched her cellphone and dialed Charles’ phone number. She tried dialing his phone number several times but he never picked up. “Ms. King-.”
“I will be right there.” Caroline dialed once more but Charles never answered. “Why isn’t that desgraciado picking up?” She took a deep breath before looking at the man standing in front of her. “Let’s go.”
Joseph stepped to the side, allowing Caroline to pass through. She made her way to the elevator as she typed a text message. Joseph pressed the button to the elevator and the doors opened. Caroline stepped inside and Joseph followed behind her.
When Charles and the twins arrived in New York, Charles noticed they were running against the clock. He instantly told the chauffeur to drive to Liam’s wedding venue. The chauffeur drove as fast as he could, feeling the pressure Charles placed on him, trying to get there on time.
When they arrived at the wedding venue, Charles got off the car along with the twins. He gave the manila folder he had gone through, out of curiosity in the plane to Ian. He tightened his grip on the twins’ small hands and led them inside the venue.
The wedding ceremony was about to come to an end. During the entire ceremony, all Liam did was think of Caroline. He wondered if she had finally given up on him and moved on. He did not want it to come this far, but he had no other option than to end everything here and properly pursue Caroline.
“Liam Sabbatini, do you take Rebecca Smith as your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forwards, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?”
Right when Liam was going to put an end to his scheme, Charles opened the doors of the venue, interrupting the ceremony. He stood by the entrance while holding the twins’ hands. Everyone inside the venue turned to look at the man who had paused the ceremony.
Media reporters began to take pictures of the man standing with the twins. Charles stared at the flashes before turning to look at Liam. ‘Why couldn’t they have a more intimate wedding?’ Charles asked himself.
He looked down at the twins and whispered, “go.” The twins nodded and let go of Charles’ hands. They held each other’s hands and walked down the aisle, catching everyone’s attention. At the same time, Charles slipped through the side and made his way to the technician in charge of the slideshow being presented.
Liam let go of Rebecca’s hand and stepped closer to the children walking towards him. “What are you two doing here?” He asked as Ian handed him the manila folder. Charles hurried towards Liam and said, “you can’t marry her.”
Liam glanced at Rebecca and she instantly grabbed the front of her wedding dress and hurried towards Liam. “Excuse me, who are you?” Charles placed out his hand, stopping Rebecca from getting any closer.
“Look at the papers inside.” Liam opened the manila folder as Charles instructed. He grabbed the papers inside the folder and began to read them. The first paper he read contained a DNA result. Along with the unmatched result, Caroline left a letter saying, “Noah is not your child.”
Liam slightly smiled as soon as he recognized her handwriting. He remembered the time she cut his hand with a kitchen knife and connected the dots. ‘So, that’s when you took my DNA to do the test, quite sly of you, Caroline,’ Liam thought.
“Liam! What is going on here?” Rebecca exclaimed, completely forgetting they were in front of hundreds of people. All the guests sat in their seats, gossiping about the scene in front of them. The few media reporters that were invited to the wedding kept taking photos of what was happening.
Liam turned to look at her, but before she could say anything, Charles stood in front of her and said, “the twins are your children. Caroline wanted to keep it from you, but there is the DNA test.” Liam looked through the papers and found the document Charles was referring to.
In the document, Caroline left another note. Liam smirked but instantly changed his expression before anyone could notice him smirking. ‘So, you finally chose to tell me the truth, Caroline? After all this time? It had to come to this for you to tell me the truth?’
Liam looked up, making eye contact with Charles. “Noah is not your child, Liam.”
“What are you-?” Charles cut Rebecca off and said, “Rebecca has been lying to you.” He looked over at the technician and nodded. The man in charge of the slideshow instantly changed the pictures being presented to a video.
As Rebecca watched the video being played, she stared at the screen in terror. In the video, the doctor Rebecca bribed four years ago was nervously admitting to altering the results while having a pistol pointed to his head without showing who was holding the gun.
Charles stepped closer to Liam and whispered, “I’ll admit Caroline went a bit far there, but I was the one filming.” He grinned before looking at the guests in the venue. He walked towards the man trying to hide his face and stood behind him.
“Come on, buddy. There is no need to hide anymore.” He grabbed Daniel’s arm, forcing him to stand up from the chair. Charles dragged Daniel closer to Liam and the female voice in the recording asked, “who paid you?”
“A man,” responded the doctor while trembling, “he said he was her manager.” Rebecca instantly turned to look at Daniel, giving him a death stare. “He also asked me to perform another DNA test for a big sum of money,” spoke the doctor in the recording.
Liam and Rebecca instantly turned to look back at the recording being presented. “Did you perform the test?” Asked the male voice from the recording. “I did.”
“I want the results,” said the female voice. “I can’t-.” The gun that pointed at the doctor’s head reached closer and pressed against his head. “You will have to give me some time to find it.”
The video stopped playing and the guests continued whispering. Liam looked back down at the documents. He flipped through the pages and found what he was looking for. This time, the DNA result had no note from Caroline. Liam looked at Daniel before looking at Rebecca.
“Liam, I can explain-.”
“I don’t want to hear it. I am done with your lies and your schemes.” Liam looked at the children who had to witness the whole thing. He grabbed Mia’s hand and smiled. Mia smiled back before Liam grabbed Ian’s hand.
Ian was about to slip his hand from his grip, but Mia shook her head. “Remember he’s the man on mommy’s phone,” Mia whispered in Ian’s ear. Ian looked at Liam and smiled. Liam began to walk out of the venue while holding the twins’ small hands.
Charles, who stayed in the venue, placed his hands over Daniel’s shoulder and made him face the media reporters. Charles reached over to Rebecca’s bare shoulder and brought her forward. “Now, you two have been exposed, why don’t you two tell the world what it feels like to have fooled everyone?”
As Liam walked to his Rolls Royce, He carried Mia in his arms and held Ian’s hand. He wore a smile on his face thinking Caroline prepared everything to expose Rebecca’s lies in order to stop him from getting married.
