In New York, it was the middle of the day when Caroline left her penthouse after spending the entire morning working. She called her assistant as she got ready to go out. When she finished getting ready, she made her way to the elevator in order to leave the building.
After Joseph picked her up, he drove to Liam’s penthouse, as she directed. When they arrived at the destination, Carline got off the car and made her way inside the building. She walked around the lobby of the building before talking to the bellboy and convincing him of letting her go up to Liam’s penthouse.
After a bit of bribery, the bellboy agreed to let her go up to the penthouse. After Caroline got on the elevator, she went up to the penthouse. When the elevator doors opened, she looked around the foyer before stepping off the elevator.
After standing in the living room for a few seconds, she heard the sound of the twins laughing. Caroline instantly turned to where the sound was coming from before hurrying up the stairs. As soon as Caroline went up the stairs, she found Liam standing in front of her while carrying the twins over his shoulder.
He paused for a second and then uttered, “Caroline?” The twins instantly turned to look back. As soon as they saw their mother they exclaimed, “mommy!” Liam slowly let the children down on the floor.
The twins’ happiness displayed on their faces as they hurried towards Caroline. Caroline had a smile from ear to ear as she crouched down with her arms out, inviting her children to a hug. They instantly ran into her arms and she tightly embraced them.
She pressed a kiss on their heads and then said, “my little angels.”
“Mommy, we missed you,” Mia responded. Caroline stopped hugging them and placed her hand on their cheeks. “I missed you too,” she replied as she looked at Mia before looking at Ian. She smiled once again before pulling them into another hug.
As Caroline hugged her children, she opened her eyes and looked up at the man standing in front of her. She looked to the side and closed her eyes. She pressed a peck on Ian’s head before pressing another peck on Mia’s head. “I missed you so much, my little angels.”
“Mia, Ian it’s time for lunch,” Liam said as he stepped closer to them, destroying the perfect mother and children bonding. Caroline gave him a nasty stare before letting go of the twins. She stood up and said, “can’t you see we’re having a moment?”
“I don’t care. They have to eat.”
“And they will. Let them stay with me for a bit more before going to eat. The food won’t go anywhere after all.”
“How can you be so selfish? Will you let your children starve just because you want to be with them?” Knowing there was no way of breaking through Liam’s stubbornness, Caroline grabbed the twins’ hands and said, “my little angels, let’s go have some lunch.”
Caroline began making her way towards the dining room when Liam grabbed Mia’s hand and picked her up. “I can take them. You can just wait in the living room.”
“There is no need for that, Liam. I’m already taking them to the dining room. Plus, I still haven’t had lunch yet, so I will be eating with my little angels.” Caroline looked forward once again and made her way to the dining room.
After having lunch together, they all went to the living room to play. Caroline was playing in the living room with the twins as they showed her all the toys Liam got them. Unfortunately, she was not able to get a single second alone with the twins because Liam was always in the background watching them.
An hour later, it was time for the twins to take a nap. Caroline took the twins to sleep as they guided her to their bedroom. Just as before, Liam was following behind them, watching Caroline’s every move.
After the twins fell asleep in their beds, Caroline went to the living room as Liam followed behind her. “Can you stop it with the insecurity? You are following me everywhere and it is seriously pissing me off.”
“Why are you here?”
“I came to take my children back,” Caroline responded. “I won’t allow that.”
“I don’t care what you allow or don’t allow. They are my children and I am taking them back with me.” Liam stepped closer to her as he kept his hands in the pockets of his trousers. Caroline stepped back. “You kept them hidden from me for four years. It is only fair that I do the same. So, if you want your children back, you will get them in four years.”
Caroline chuckled as she stepped closer to him. “Listen, Liam. I did not come here to negotiate with you or ask for your opinion. I said I am taking my children with me.”
“They are not only yours.”
“Playing father for a few days does not give you the right to call yourself a father.”
“Hiding them from me for four years doesn’t make you the only parent they have. I have as much authority over the twins as you do.”
“Authority? Liam, you have nothing. You are nothing but a bland and shallow man with nothing other than money. You have no right to claim that you can be a father figure when you were never meant to be a father.”
After a few seconds of standing there in silence, Liam said, “I knew everything. From the very beginning, I knew about the twins, about Rebecca, everything.” Caroline gave him a perplexed expression before letting out a sigh.
“Liam, I don’t have time for your bullshit.” Caroline looked at the designer watch on her wrist and added, “I will wait until the twins wake up, and then I am taking them with me. End of discussion.” Caroline gave him one final glance before walking away.
Caroline made her way to the twins’ bedroom, leaving Liam alone in the living room. When she went inside the twins’ bedroom, she remembered how that same room used to be hers. She looked around, noticing every decoration in the bedroom.
Caroline sat down on the edge of Mia’s bed as she smiled, knowing the bedroom looked just like the picture the nanny sent her. She reached over her hand and placed it over Mia’s cheek. She softly grazed her fingers over Mia’s cheek as she thought, “at least he has been taking good care of you.”
When the twins finally woke up from their nap, Caroline walked out of the bedroom while holding their hands. Caroline took the twins to the living room where they found the fatigued Liam resting on the couch.
The twins let go of Caroline’s hands and hurried towards the man dozing off on the couch. The twins sat next to him and whispered, “Daddy, daddy, wake up.” Caroline let out a soft chuckle as she stepped closer to them.
Caroline stood there for a few seconds before walking towards them. She stood behind the children as she smiled while staring at Liam’s face. She then leaned over and slowly grabbed the document Liam held in his hands.
After successfully retrieving the papers without waking him up, Caroline grabbed the blanket resting on the corner of the sofa and laid it over Liam’s body. She looked at her children and whispered, “come on, let daddy sleep.”
The twins stood up and followed behind Caroline as they let their father peacefully sleep on the couch. Caroline went back to the bedroom with the twins. When they went inside the bedroom, they arranged the bean bags and took a seat in front of the television.
Caroline powered on the TV and chose a movie for them to watch. They comfortably sat in front of the television, watching the animated children’s movie portrayed on the flat screen. Caroline placed her arms around the twins, pulling them in for a hug. She pressed a peck on Ian’s head before pressing a peck on Mia’s head.
When the movie finally finished, Caroline powered off the TV and said, “why don’t we check up on daddy?” The twins instantly stood up from the bean bags and made their way to the living room, leaving Caroline alone in the bedroom.
Caroline giggled seeing how eager her children were to check up on their father. Caroline hurried out of the bedroom, trying to catch up with the twins. When Caroline finally reached the living room, she found the twins standing alone while looking around the spacious room.
“Mommy, where’s daddy?” Caroline looked around and then responded, “I’m not sure. Let’s go look for him.” Caroline extended out her hand, calling the twins over. She started making her way towards the stairs as the twins followed behind her.
Caroline and the twins made their way up the stairs and finally found Liam sitting in his study. “Daddy! You’re here!” exclaimed the twins, making Liam look up from the document he was reading.
“I went to check up on the twins not long ago and heard the TV playing,” Liam spoke, “how was the movie?”
“It was fine. How was your nap?”
“I wish I could say it was good, but I haven’t gotten any restful sleep in a while.” Caroline opened her mouth and was about to speak when the twins grabbed her hands and started dragging her towards the stairs, “Mommy! We want to show you something.”
As Caroline spent the rest of the afternoon playing with the twins, Liam eventually joined in on the fun. When evening rolled around, Caroline took the twins to wash their hands in order to have dinner.
They had dinner like a normal, happy family, making the twins desire to always have both of their parents together. They often heard from their friends what it was like to live with both of their parents but they never imagined it would feel so natural.
After dinner, Caroline and Liam got the twins ready for bed. After tucking them into bed, Mia requested Liam to read them a book after Caroline volunteered to read them a book. Stunned Caroline stood frozen with the book in her hand for a second before Liam spoke, “how about mommy and I read together?”
“Yes!” the twins responded in excitement. Liam reached over his hand and grabbed Caroline’s wrist. He tugged on her wrist, pulling her down, and making her sit on his lap. He took the book from her hand and opened it.
The twins looked at each other and giggled. Liam read the title before opening the book. He turned to the first page and read the sentences located below the drawing. He turned to look at Caroline and whispered, “continue.” Caroline turned to the next page and read the small paragraph above the drawing that took up almost the entire page.
After reading the entire book with Liam, Caroline closed the book. She tried to get up but Liam pulled her closer. She let out a sigh, making him let go of her. She instantly stood up and placed the book back on the shelf.
She began to walk towards the door as Liam stood up from the side of Mia’s bed. He stepped closer to Caroline and she opened the door. She walked out of the bedroom as Liam followed behind her.
Caroline stood in front of Liam, waiting for him to close the door of the bedroom. When the door was fully closed, she spoke, “we need to talk.” She turned around and began making her way up the stairs.
After making her way to the living room, she walked to the home bar on the corner of the room and grabbed two glasses. She placed some ice in the glasses before pouring some liquor inside the glasses.
After placing the bottle of whiskey back on the counter, she walked towards Liam. She took a seat on the couch next to him and handed him a glass. She took a sip and then asserted, “I thought about what you said earlier. I want you to elaborate on that.”
Caroline placed her drink on the center table, waiting for Liam to speak, but instead, he kept quiet. “Liam, I want you to tell me everything. I want you to stop lying to me. I want you to tell me how you had the audacity to lie to my face. I want you to tell me how you chose to deceive me just because you felt like it.”
“At first, I was trying to protect you. But then when you weren’t telling me about the twins, I continued those same lies just to get back at you.”
“Are you hearing yourself right now, Liam? You chose to lie to me since the beginning and now you have finally grown a pair and decided to tell me you have been treating me like a fool.”
“Caroline, I-.”
“Before you go and lie to me again, I want you to tell me one thing. Since you claim that you knew everything, why did you let Rebecca come between us? Didn’t you know Noah was not your child?”
“I was doing it to protect you.”
“Protect me?”
“I made a deal with Dante. In order to protect you and your family, I had to follow his orders… I stayed with Rebecca because of you. I drove you away because I was protecting you. I pretended like the twins were not mine because I thought I was doing the right thing.”
