The next day, Liam was alone in the fitness center at his penthouse building when someone walked inside. He was doing pull-ups as a woman walked closer to him. She stood behind him, waiting for him to stop what he was doing.
When Liam finished his final set, he placed his feet back on the ground and he let go of the bar. He turned around to make eye contact with the woman watching him workout. “What are you doing here, Rebecca?”
“Can’t I come workout with my fiancé?” Liam raised his eyebrow. He grabbed the small towel resting on the floor and wiped off the sweat on his face. He rested the towel over his shoulder, making Rebecca shift her gaze from his eyes to his neck.
She instantly gasped when she saw the bruises on his neck. She slowly stepped closer to him and took off the towel resting on his shoulder, uncovering more hickeys and bite marks Caroline made yesterday.
She gave Liam a worried expression as she asked, “Liam, what is this?” Liam said nothing. After a pause, she added, “why did you go to Miami yesterday?”
“That is none of your business,” he responded. “You are my fiancé, what you do is my business, so please tell me where these come from.” Liam ignored her and picked up his shirt from the ground. He put it on and then walked out of the gym, leaving Rebecca alone with her thoughts.
Back in Miami, after going to the gym with Taekyung and getting home, Caroline was taking a shower when she got the sudden urge to sneeze. She sneezed as she continued to wash her hair.
After getting out of the shower, Caroline wrapped a towel over her body and walked to her closet. She changed into her outfit after getting her makeup done. Caroline then walked out of her bedroom and opened the door to the bedroom in front of hers. She looked around but the twins were nowhere to be found.
Caroline closed the door and made her way to the spiral staircase. She climbed down the stairs and went to the breakfast room, where she found her family happily enjoying their breakfast. She sat down on her chair and joined her family.
Caroline looked at Charles as she took a sip of her mimosa and then she spoke, “I heard you are planning on moving to Persephone’s house, Chuck.”
“Who told you that?”
“That is not important. I just want to know if it is true.”
“Well, it is not true. If you are looking to get rid of me, I am not going anywhere.” Caroline chuckled. “You spend five nights a week in Persephone’s house, why not ask her to marry you and then live happily together for the rest of your life?”
“Is this you trying to pressure me into marrying your best friend?”
“Why not? Mark is already marrying one of them. What harm is there wanting to have my other best friend marry into my family?”
“I don’t think I should propose to her right now,” Charles responded. “Why not? You love her, don’t you? Or are you just playing with her?”
“It’s not that. I just think it’s too soon.”
“Well, in that you might be right, but don’t forget, I am expecting you to marry my best friend.” Charles chuckled. Then, Caroline looked at Mark and spoke, “we haven’t had time to really talk, how did it happen?”
Mark blushed and glanced at Taekyung. Taekyung placed his hand on Mark’s thigh and responded, “we don’t really want to share.”
“That is fine as long as I see the ring.” Mark extended out his hand to let Caroline inspect the ring. Caroline looked at Taekyung and asked, “is this the one I told you to get?” Taekyung nodded. “What, you knew he was going to propose?”
Caroline nodded. “From the very beginning. I helped him a bit. Though I am not sure why you asked to use my penthouse.” After a pause Caroline added, “Mark, could you take off your ring?”
Mark slowly took off his ring and then Caroline said, “now, unfold it.” Mark gave her a confused expression before trying to unfold the ring. “It’s a sixteenth-century ring that unfolds into a sphere.” Mark looked at the ring now in form of a sphere in his hand and read the names engraved along the ring.
“Isn’t there a part missing?” Carline asked. Mark looked up from the ring and then he looked at Taekyung, who was holding up his hand, showing the ring in his hand. Mark smiled and Taekyung leaned closer to him. “You can’t be the only one wearing a ring.” He then pressed a peck against Mark’s cheek.
After having breakfast, Caroline went to the kitchen, looking for a maid. Caroline asked a maid to pack her luggage for a last-minute business trip. After giving the instructions to the maid, Caroline walked to the living room, looking for her mother. She sat on the armchair in front of the woman reading a book with her reading glasses.
Elizabeth rode her glassed up to her hair and looked at Caroline. “Mom, I’m sorry for the way I have been acting lately.”
“It’s fine, Caroline. I understand why you chose to make the decision of moving.”
“That still doesn’t justify my behavior.”
“Caroline, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it,” Elizabeth spoke, “I heard from a maid you have to go on a business trip. Why don’t you spend some more time with the twins? I will take care of them once you leave, don’t worry.”
“Thank you, mom.” Caroline stood up from the armchair and walked out to the pool, where she found the twins happily playing in the water as the nanny watched them. Caroline stepped closer to the edge of the pool as she watched the children play with a smile on her face.
“Mommy!” They both exclaimed. Caroline giggled. The twins walked out of the pool and stood in front of her. Caroline crouched down and placed her hands on Mia and Ian’s cheeks. “I will be leaving for a business trip today. I will be back in two days, okay?”
The twins nodded, but they wished their mother would not have to travel as often she has traveled this past week. “Don’t be sad,” Caroline spoke, “I will try to be back sooner than you expect. In the meantime, you will stay here with Abuela and Louisa. I will also ask aunt Sephie to come over with Achilles.”
Caroline pulled the twins into a hug and then she pressed a sweet peck on their heads. “I love you, my little angels.”
“We love you too, mommy.” Right at that moment, Caroline felt her heart about to beat out of her chest. She held the twins tightly into her arms. She was about to call her assistant to tell him to cancel the meeting she had to attend.
“Mommy, you are hugging too tight,” Ian spoke. Caroline let go of the twins and looked at their small faces again and their cute expressions. “Mommy, go before you change your mind.” Caroline giggled and pressed a peck on their foreheads before finally saying goodbye.
Caroline went back inside the mansion and walked to her bedroom. She went to change her outfit before leaving the mansion. After changing her outfit, she walked down the stairs, where the butler stood by the staircase, waiting for her.
When Caroline reached the bottom of the stairs, the butler handed her the designer purse he held in his hands as he spoke, “your luggage is already in the car Ms. King.” The butler walked to the door and opened it before saying, “have a safe flight.”
Caroline walked out of the mansion and made her way to the black Range Rover. The driver closed the door after Caroline got in the SUV and then he walked to the driver’s seat. The driver drove away, making his way to the airport.
When Caroline arrived at the airport, her chauffeur got off the SUV and walked to Caroline’s door. He opened the door for her and Caroline stepped out of the Range Rover. She made her way past through the red carpet leading to her private jet. She went up the steps and went inside the jet, where she found her assistant sitting on a seat while typing away at the keyboard on the laptop in front of him.
Caroline took off her dark sunglasses and placed them above her head. She took a seat next to the window and placed her designer purse on the seat next to her. Then, a stewardess walked up to her. “Would you like anything to drink Ms. King?”
“A glass of champagne, please.” The stewardess nodded and walked away. Later, the stewardess walked up to Caroline again and handed her the glass of champagne. The stewardess then walked away to continue the preparations for takeoff.
In New York, Liam was in his office reading some documents when Marcus stepped inside his office. “Boss, there is a problem with the imports from Italy.” Liam looked up from the paper in front of him. He took out a cigar from a drawer in his desk and cut the tip with the cigar cutter.
He then lit the cigar and took a puff. “Hand me the phone.” Marcus stepped further inside the office and handed the phone to Liam. Liam stood up from his chair and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window.
He listened to the man speaking over the phone as he puffed on his cigar. Liam listened to the man’s excuses, waiting for the man to shut up. “Tomorrow everything will be fixed, boss.” Liam let out a light chuckle. “Tomorrow? Bold of you to assume you will live to see tomorrow.” Liam hung up the phone and took a puff of his cigar. He then walked out of his office and Marcus followed behind him.
Three hours later, Caroline arrived at her penthouse. She turned on the lights and saw her penthouse intact. She wore a smile of satisfaction on her face, being able to be back at her old penthouse and find it just the way she left it.
Caroline grabbed her small Louis Vuitton suitcase and made her way to her bedroom. When she entered her bedroom, she left the suitcase by the entrance and walked to her bed. She sat on the bed before laying back.
She looked at the watch on her wrist and watched the thinnest hand mark each second that passed. She stayed there for a while, hypnotized and lost in her thoughts as the minute hand marked each minute that passed.
When Caroline came back from her thoughts, she sat up from the bed and looked at the floor-to-ceiling window covered by the thick curtains. She stood up from the bed and opened the curtains. Some light came into the bedroom as Caroline watched the white snowfall from the sky.
She then made her way to her enormous walk-in closet. She looked around her clothes, perfectly arranged by season, and walked to the winter section of her closet. She changed into some warm clothes and went to the elevator.
When Caroline walked out of the building, she found herself standing in front of one of New York’s busy streets. She began to walk along with the crowd along the white path left by the snow.
Caroline stood on the edge of the sidewalk and raised her hand. A yellow cab parked next to her and she got in the back seat. “Where to?” Asked the driver. “Central Park,” Caroline answered. The man drove away.
After arriving at the park, Caroline paid the taxi driver and got of the yellow taxi. She walked inside the park as snow continued to fall. Caroline stood in front of a frozen lake, completely ignoring her surroundings. She just focused on her thoughts as she stared at the frozen water in front of her.
