Kristen loved Marco very much and had carefully kept it a secret for sixteen years. No one knew this secret.
Kristen raised her head and laughed. She suddenly reached out to Marco. Before she could touch him, the man in front of her stepped back in disgust and dodged her hand.
Kristen grabbed nothing. The raindrops fell on her hand and the cold invaded her heart.
At that moment, Kristen felt that they were so distant. She would never be able to catch Marco.
Just like the rain in her hand…
She looked up at Marco’s cold face and sobbed, “Marco, it hurts…”
Marco frowned. He did not believe Kristen’s words. After so many years, Marco knew Kristen very well. He knew that she was afraid of pain. But she only knelt for half an hour. She would not die.
“Kristen, stop it. You had just knelt for half an hour. You look like you’re going to die. Don’t worry, your dad won’t die. You can stand up.”
She felt that her body had been pierced by a needle. There was no place where she could not feel pain. The most painful thing was her heart, which seemed to have rotted away.
Kristen was smiling, but that smile was worse than crying.
Marco did not understand why Kristen was smiling. Somehow, he hated this smile, and it made him upset.
“Crazy!” Marco cursed and reached out to grab Kristen’s arm. Only then did he realize that her body was as cold as ice.
Kristen’s laughter stopped abruptly. Her upper body swayed and Marco failed to catch her. He watched her fall like a doll falling into a water pit.
Kristen was no longer smiling. She did not even move. Her entire body was limp on the ground and it fell silent…
She opened her mouth. Streams of blood flowed out of her mouth, dyeing the puddle under her face red. It was glaring red.
Marco’s entire body stiffened as if he had been hit by a hammer. He was dizzy, and he felt that the scene in front of him was unreal.
In the end, his body was faster than his brain. He threw down the umbrella in his hand and picked Kristen up. Kristen, who was covered in rain, was not much heavier than before. Her face was so pale that he could see the tiny blood vessels inside.
“Kristen!” Marco was so frightened. He did not realize how trembling his voice was at this moment, and how much fear there was in it.
He didn’t dare to delay and carried this defeated body. He ran into the car.
Bob was smart. Upon seeing that something was wrong, he immediately came over.
Kristen lay in Marco’s arms. Her hair spread all over his chest. She half closed her eyes in pain.
She looked deeply at the man who was holding her. Her eyelids became heavier, but she did not dare to close her eyes. She was afraid that she would never wake up again. She used her remaining will to look at Marco. She wanted to engrave his last appearance in her mind and slowly erase it.
“Marco … Do you know … sixteen years ago, I … liked you very … very much … I had liked you for sixteen years … Now I … am tired…” Kristen’s eyes were wet as she spoke shakily.
She didn’t believe fate before, but now she did.
But she didn’t do anything heinous. She just liked him too much and liked him for sixteen years.
She was talking nonsense again. Kristen had told him more than once that they had known each other sixteen years ago. But sixteen years ago, he had never seen her!
Kristen’s vision blurred and gradually blacked out. She could not see Marco’s conflicted expression.
Her chest suddenly twitched, and she spat out blood, which dyed Marco’s shirt red.
“Kristen, what happened to you?” Marco reached out to wipe the blood off her face, but the more he wiped, the more his hands were stained red.
He was sweating and his eyes were red. For the first time, he felt that life was so fragile. Kristen, who was lying in his arms, seemed to be dying.
“Kristen … Kristen…”
Marco repeated her name in his heart. He did not admit that he cared about her. He thought he was in panic just because she had the same blood type as Brenda’s.
…
When Marco, covered in blood, rushed into the hospital with Kristen in his arms, everyone was shocked. The doctor held a walkie-talkie and called for someone. Immediately, a nurse pushed a surgical car over.
“Send to the emergency room!” The doctor looked at the dying Kristen and made a decision.
Marco was stopped outside the door. When he saw the door was closed, he felt that his heart skipped a beat. The inexplicable fear almost burst out of his chest.
His hands trembled. He wanted to push open the door in front of him, but he did not dare. He was helpless, terrified, and timid like a child who had walked out of his home for the first time.
There was an air conditioner in the hospital. Marco stared at the surgical lights in a daze. The blood on his shirt had been blown dry by the air conditioner and turned into dark red clots. There was a rust-like smell.
The nurse had never seen such a handsome man in reality. Seeing that his expression was not good, she walked over and gently comforted him, “Don’t worry, she will be fine…”
Marco seemed to have not heard her. He lowered his head and spread out his hands to look at the blood clots in his hands. Then, he rubbed his hands together and watched as the blood dust fell off his palms.
Then he noticed that there was blood on his hands, top, pants, arms… His whole body was glued to Kristen’s blood.
How could she have so much blood?
Marco suddenly felt cold. He looked up at the ceiling and found that the air conditioner was not far away. No wonder his body was cold.
…
In the operating room.
Kristen lay on the bed. Her stomach constantly twitched. Blood was spat out from her mouth as if there was no end to it, soaking the bedsheets in red.
“It hurt…” Kristen cried. Her body was so painful that she lost consciousness. She could not tell if this was reality or an illusion.
Many scenes appeared in front of her like a lantern. It was the shadow of Marco, the angry Marco, Marco who hugged her, the Marco who called her name, the Marco who slapped her, and the Marco who humiliated her…
One by one, they turned into bubbles and blocked in her mind. They shattered bit by bit and finally melted into a pool of water to form the last scene.
It was Marco from sixteen years ago.
Kristen could no longer remember what Marco looked like sixteen years ago. She only vaguely remembered that he was taller than her. He had a clean smile and thin arms. When he carried her, he had strength that did not match his age, making her feel safe.
That spring, the seven-year-old Kristen was taken to the amusement park and abandoned. Marco picked her up and carried her back.
On the way, Marco bought her candy, smiled, and coaxed her, “It’s sweet. Don’t cry.”
She tasted one and was cheated. It was sweet outside but sour inside, but it was the best candy she had ever tasted in her life and was unforgettable.
When she got home, she had a rash. Because she had an allergy to that candy.
From then on, she never touched that again.
She liked Marco just like the candy that gave her allergy.
She knew she couldn’t touch it, but she still touched it without hesitation.
Life was like a play. After sixteen years, the gentle youth had turned into a cold and ruthless person. It was as if he was a different person. He was no longer the one who would coax her with candy.
She used four years to bet that Marco would love her and that he would think of sixteen years ago, but the final result was that she lost everything and was defeated.
The young crush was just her wishful thinking.
“Blood oxygen saturation rate reduced. She is in danger!”
“The patient has stage IV stomach cancer. Her family needs to sign the surgical agreement and the critical condition notice. Hurry up and ask Dr. Balan to come to do the operation!”
The instrument made an ice-cold and piercing sound…
