“You didn’t need to say so much. You pretended to have stage IV stomach cancer just to divorce me, didn’t you? You even cooperated with the hospital to deceive me! To get what you want, you would do anything.” Marco declared Kristen’s guilt in one sentence.
Marco smashed the stack of examination reports onto Kristen’s hand. The needle that was stuck on the back of her hand poked out and the liquid dripped down.
Where covered with the gauze was quickly dyed red with blood. It seemed that Kristen did not feel any pain. She opened her eyes and looked calm.
She looked into Marco’s ruthless eyes. Without a doubt, if she was not lying on the bed half-dead, Marco would have slapped her.
She turned her head to look at the medical report in her hand and picked it up shakily, slowly flipping through the pages.
She did wish that she was as “healthy” as the reports claimed.
“At that time, only you were qualified to sign the operation approval for me,” Kristen forced herself to speak, “I asked the doctor to tell you that I had stage IV stomach cancer. I was afraid that you wouldn’t sign the approval if the illness was not serious enough. The doctor wouldn’t treat me without it.”
She could hold back the trembling of her voice, but she could not help but feel her nose sour. She lowered her eyes, afraid that Marco would see the tears in her eyes.
Kristen took a deep breath. “But you are right. I want to divorce you. I don’t want to be Mrs. Latham anymore. I am now suffering so much because of you that my stomach is bleeding. I may have stomach cancer soon.”
“You really cherish your life.”
Kristen asked, “Who doesn’t? Doesn’t Brenda cherish her life? If I remember correctly, I have donated no less than fifty times of my blood to her over the past four years.”
Marco lowered his eyes and said coldly, “Kristen, are you trying to say that you are very pitiful? You volunteered to donate your blood. Our prior agreement was clearly written. How dare you mention how many times you donated blood to Brenda!”
Marco loved Brenda so much that he wouldn’t allow anyone to say anything bad about her. Hearing this, Kristen was deadly upset, but she tightly gripped the sheets under the quilt.
“Marco, I volunteered to donate my blood because I like you, but you can’t take advantage of it to humiliate me! I have given her enough blood. I have been your wife for the past four years, and I have had enough of it. I won’t be your wife anymore.”
“No way. We are not going to divorce. If you want your dad to be safe in prison, you better do what I said!”
Kristen stiffened and stared at him in disbelief. A moment later, her lips trembled. “What do you want to do to my dad? You promised that you would let him go.”
Marco’s eyes were filled with contempt. Kristen was not indestructible. On the contrary, she had too many things that she could not let go of. These were all her Achilles’ heels. As long as he knew this, she would never be able to escape from him.
Marco curled his lips slightly and reached out to gently pinch Kristen’s chin. His tone was gentle and cold. “I promised? Where’s the evidence?”
Did Marco want to go back on his word? How could he do that?
Kristen’s eyes gradually turned red. Her eyelashes trembled as if she was a frightened rabbit. She gritted her teeth.
“Marco!”
“Kristen, I only promised to help your father get rid of the death penalty. But anything can happen in the prison. You also know that there are all kinds of people in there. Your father may be in the same cell with some murderers. I can’t control it if they break his arms or legs.”
He uttered the most vicious threat most calmly. His thumb gently rubbed Kristen’s fair chin and his eyes were full of contempt as if he was mocking her innocence.
Kristen’s face suddenly turned even paler. She lowered her eyes and looked at Marco’s hand that was holding her chin. Tears welled up in her eyes. This was the man that she had loved for sixteen years. He lied to her again and again. However, she was always stupid enough to believe him.
