Jill was still worried about Kristen. As soon as the bell rang, she volunteered to push the medicine cart toward Kristen’s ward. She had thought of every situation, but she did not expect to see Kristen’s bloody hand.
The neat and clean ward was now in a mess. There were paper scattering on the ground, and the infusion tubes were randomly tangled on the bed. The infusion bag was thrown on the ground and the fluid flowed all over the ward.
And the most eye-catching scene was Kristen’s injured hand, of which the entire back was dyed red with blood. So did the sheet.
“What … what happened? Did he hurt you?” Jill looked at Kristen’s hand and then turned to her reddened eyes. She spoke very carefully in consideration of Kristen’s emotions.
Kristen shook her head. Her voice was hoarse from crying. “I made it myself.”
However, Jill didn’t believe it.
Took out a cotton swab and disinfectant from the medicine cart, she carefully lifted Kristen’s left hand. The blood had solidified and had to be cleaned.
The place where the needle passed through was bleeding. The wound was not big, but it had been stuck there for too long and thus it was hard to stop the bleeding immediately.
“It might hurt a little. Bear with it.” Jill said.
“OK,” Kristen responded softly. She looked up at the ceiling in a daze. The most painful moment had passed. Such kind of pain was nothing to her.
Jill took the needle off and looked at her scarred left hand, which could not be infused anymore.
Jill asked, “How about we try the right hand?”
Kristen asked, “How many days do I need to take the infusion?”
Jill flipped through the physician’s order sheets and made a rough estimate. “I think it will take ten more days or half a month.”
“That’s too long!” Kristen frowned. She was not sure if she would be able to hear the trial next week, and sighed, “Try the right hand.”
Jill was skilled and Kristen did not feel much pain. It was a little inconvenient to have the indwelling needle on the right hand.
After changing the medicine for Kristen, Jill considerately changed the quilt for her. She also cleaned up the paper on the ground. Staring at the fake medical report, she asked Kristen, “Has your husband gone back home?”
Kristen pursed her dry lips and nodded.
Jill did not know what to say for a moment. Kristen was supposed to be the apple of the eye of the Lawrence family. Three days ago, she was still the pride of the women in Ratna City.
Now, it was reported online that she had stolen someone else’s fiancé. To save her marriage, she had to kneel on the street and ignore the bankruptcy of the Lawrence Group as well as her father, a murderer in prison.
There were all kinds of rumors on the internet. Jill did not understand the grudges of those rich and powerful families, but she sincerely cared for Kristen.
Back then, the outside world had over-beautified Kristen and wrapped her up as a powerful woman. But no one knew that she was seriously ill and might not be able to live for more than two years with stage IV stomach cancer.
Any comforting words now seemed useless. Jill had thought a lot but could only say, “Take good care of yourself.”
“Don’t worry. It won’t happen again. Thank you for your help.” Kristen gave her a faint smile. When she smiled, there would be tiny dimples on both sides of her cheeks. It was said that people with dimples would smile very sweetly, but for her, her smile was filled with bitterness.
“You’re welcome,” Jill said and left with the medicine cart.
The rumbling sound of wheels gradually turned down before disappearing. The entire room suddenly became so quiet that she could hear the sound of the drip falling.
When people quieted down, it was easy for them to empty their minds. When she emptied her mind, Marco’s shadow would quickly occupy it. No matter how hard she tried, she could not get rid of it. It seemed to have become a habit.
Marco had gone.
And Marco would never come back. She heard that Marco had been taking care of her during the 46 hours of coma. It was like a dream that she could hardly believe.
There were still five days before Darin’s second trial. During this time, Marco had never shown up.
The person Kristen saw the most was either Adele or Antonio.
Antonio worked in the hospital and was very busy most of the time. But he would go to the ward to accompany her and persuade her to do chemotherapy when he was free.
Kristen was a person who was afraid of pain. She was so terrified of the pain that she would even cry out only because of an injection, let alone receiving the chemotherapy.
Kristen kept refusing when she was persuaded to receive it.
Chemotherapy was more conducive to Kristen, but she had already given up. Antonio still wanted to persuade her, but Kristen said bluntly, “I won’t accept it because I will lose a lot of hair. I don’t want to be bald before I die. Being bald is even worse than death for me.”
“The hair is not important compared to your health.” Antonio shook his head helplessly. Although he was still serious about her health, he was not as nervous as before.
Kristen smiled and said with a perfunctory attitude, “You know that I care about my look. And you also know that I am very afraid of pain.”
