On that rainy day, Kristen abandoned her pride and knelt for half an hour before everyone. He became a laughingstock.
Kristen’s tears wet Marco’s suit. She hated him. But she hated herself more.
She couldn’t forgive Marco and herself for Darin’s death.
Marco seemed to feel her hatred. His hands trembled, and he was afraid that Kristen would leave if Darin died.
Marco couldn’t let Kristen leave him. No way!
The phone rang. Marco came back to his senses. He hugged Kristen with one hand and took out the phone from his pocket to answer it.
It was Bob. As soon as Marco picked it up, an anxious voice came from the other side.
“Mr. Latham, Darin had committed suicide by jumping off a building on the way to court. He died on the spot. How should we deal with his body?”
Marco felt overwhelmed. His eyes were glossed with shock. For the first time, Marco was in a dilemma. He was lost for words.
Marco set his cellphone aside to avoid Kristen.
“Mr. Latham, please tell me what to do. Do I need to tell Ms. Lawrence about Darin’s death?” Bob asked urgently.
“I’ll go there later. You do what you need to do now.” Marco took a deep breath and hung up the call.
Kristen rested herself entirely in Marco’s arms, motionless as if she was “dead.” Her eyes were closed, and tears streaked her face.
Marco wiped away the tears on her face. His fingers softly brushed through her eyelids, and Kristen opened her red and desolate eyes.
“I want to see him.”
Marco replied, “OK, I’ll take you there.”
The blood on Kristen’s hand smeared Marco’s shirt. The smell of blood stank. Marco was a clean freak, but he didn’t overreact.
As they found no way out, Adele came out after completing the procedures.
After seeing the situation here, Adele ran over in a hurry with her face full of guilt and unease. “Ms. Lawrence, are you alright? It’s all my fault. I should have let you lie in the ward.”
Kristen buried her face in Marco’s arms, trembling. She was enduring great pain at the moment.
Adele did not know what had happened, but judging from Marco’s gloomy face and the mess on the ground, she guessed that they must have quarreled.
Adele was instinctively afraid of Marco. A man, who had been in a high position for a long time, could be intimidating. Usually, as long as Marco kept a straight face and did not speak, it was enough to scare people, not to mention his gloomy face at this time. His black eyes were cold.
“Clean up the ground. I’ll take her out and come back soon.”
“But Dr. Balan said that Ms. Lawrence needed to be on a drip.”
“Tell him that I will bring Kristen back to the hospital in three hours. If he is worried, call me. I will send someone to the hospital for the medicine.”
What else could Adele do? Adele felt quite guilty. She walked over, quickly cleaned up the wheelchair, and picked up the infusion apparatus on the ground.
In front of Marco, everyone seemed useless. Marco put Kristen back in her wheelchair and took the gauze and disinfectant from Adele to do a simple treatment for her hand.
The wound on Kristen’s hand that had been cut by the needle was deep and long, with blood on it. It looked quite painful.
Kristen was very afraid of pain, but this time she did not even frown.
