Marco seemed unhappy. He was knitting his brows while Kristen was talking to him.
Kristen didn’t want to waste her breath talking to Macro anymore, so she turned to clean up the bedroom. Kristen comforted herself in her heart, “Why would I talk so much to him? He doesn’t give a damn about me.”
Marco was pleased to see Kristen doing the cleanup. However, he didn’t understand why Kristen was hysterical. Instead, Marco thought Kristen should be grateful.
He promised to stay with Kristen for the rest of his life. Wasn’t this what Kristen wanted the most?
Marco was sure that Kristen was just seeking his attention. He believed sweet words and actions would soften her.
Kristen and Marco hadn’t divorced yet. Macro thought if he was nicer to Kristen, Kristen would stay by his side forever.
Marco had confidence in himself, which made so much sense indeed. Marco was an eligible man, who was hot and rich. If Marco learned how to be kind to others, then he would be a perfect man in the world.
However, Marco wasn’t confident to get Kristen to love him. Kristen didn’t know Marco had loved her for sixteen years.
Marco didn’t leave until it was late. He originally planned to have dinner with Kristen. Yet surprisingly, Kristen ordered a takeout without asking him.
Kristen sat near the window and started enjoying her dinner as soon as she got the takeout. Macro stared at Kristen from her back with a grim look.
Very soon, Marco left. After that, Kristen put her food down and got up to pour herself a glass of water.
She stood near the floor-to-ceiling window and looked at Marco. The dim light of the streetlamp stretched his shadow long.
Macro sensed that someone was looking at him. He instantly turned his head. Kristen subconsciously hid herself. She realized that the window could not be seen from the outside shortly afterward.
Kristen took a sip of water to cool down. When Kristen put the glass down on the table, Marco was already out of her sight.
Perhaps Marco and she would never be together in this life. After so many years, Kristen didn’t expect anything more from Marco.
Kristen was too obsessed with Marco. Therefore, it took Kristen many years to understand that her love for Marco was just a joke.
Kristen thought that it was probably because she hadn’t been loved since she was young. Thus, Kristen was dying to get love and attention from Marco.
She envied Brenda. Brenda could easily get everything she longed for just because Brenda was Marco’s best friend since they were kids.
Kristen had never stopped loving Marco. However, what did Kristen get in the end? Nothing. Kristen got nothing but stomach cancer and a broken family.
Kristen didn’t blame Marco for ignoring her love. She didn’t expect Marco would love her the way Kristen did. Kristen grew disappointed. It was like the boiling water turning into steam. Kristen’s love for Marco evaporated.
Giving up was something that happened in an instant. She couldn’t understand why she liked a jerk like Marco.
Kristen came to realize that she had been waiting for Marco to be who he was sixteen years ago over the past six years.
Kristen wished she had never known Marco sixteen years ago, then she could easily get over Marco.
As time went by, even the deepest feelings would be smoothed out. No matter how sad or happy he was, these emotions would not affect her for the remaining two years. Once she closed her eyes and died, everything would disappear.
Kristen sighed bitterly, thinking, “My life sucks.”
Kristen found everything tasteless. She forced herself to eat half of the food before throwing it into the trash can.
…
Kristen still got 500,000 dollars left after she paid the debt. Then Kristen asked a lawyer to help her transfer the deed to Marco.
After she signed all the papers, Kristen asked the lawyer to give the contract to Marco for her.
Transferring the deed was not as complicated as divorce. There would not be any disputes. People just needed to get the papers signed and stamped.
At night, Marco called Kristen.
“I’ve signed the contract.”
“Okay,” Kristen answered, frowning. She didn’t think that Marco called her just for the matter of the house. Kristen waited for Marco to continue.
After a few seconds, Marco said slowly, “It’s going to be the weekend tomorrow. I’m going to invite Brenda for lunch. Brenda said she’d like you to cook for her.”
“What? No way!”
Marco ignored Kristen and continued, “The food outside is not good for Brenda. You can cook her something a bit lighter, just like the way you cooked.”
“I said no! Can’t you hear me?” Kristen couldn’t believe Marco called her to make him and Brenda lunch at night. Kristen hadn’t been sleeping well recently. And Kristen would be unable to sleep because Marco’s words drove her crazy.
Kristen added in an unfriendly tone, “Like the way I cooked? That is funny! It sounds like you ate things I cooked. Tell me. Have you ever come home for dinner?”
Marco replied, “So I just told you. I’ll be back for lunch tomorrow.”
Kristen rolled her eyes. Kristen didn’t expect Marco to be such a shameless bastard.
“I’m not that kind of stupid woman who waited for you to come home for dinner anymore. You want me to make you lunch? Who the hell are you? Don’t even think about it,” Kristen snorted.
Marco pulled a long face. He felt that Kristen was getting too carried away lately. Marco assumed that it was because Kristen had paid off her debts.
“How dare you talk to me like that?” Marco’s steely tone sent shivers down Kristen’s spine.
“You don’t want Aden to get into any trouble, do you?”
Marco knew Aden was Kristen’s weakness. Kristen could do nothing but grit her teeth angrily.
Marco continued, “Don’t make me say that again. I want to see the lunch ready before Brenda and I reach home tomorrow. You hear me?”
