Kristen clenched her grip on her phone, panting angrily. Kristen found herself unable to breathe at that moment.
After a long while, Kristen gave in and answered, “Fine. I will do it.”
Marco hung up after he got a satisfactory answer.
Kristen looked around the dark and empty room. Anger overtook her when she thought Marco was going to help Brenda with the move tomorrow. Kristen had to get up early in the morning to go to the supermarket and cook for Brenda and Marco. Kristen pursed her lips with a look of depression. She was desperate to punch Marco in the face.
Kristen lay down on the bed and looked at the wedding photo on the wall. It became annoying. She suddenly realized why Marco smashed the photo on the floor before. Kristen also wanted to burn this photo to ashes.
The next moment, Kristen got weepy. She covered her face with her hands. Kristen said hoarsely to herself, “I’m gonna die soon. Why do you still torture me like this? Marco, you are a bastard.”
…
Kristen woke up early the next morning and looked in the mirror. Her bloodshot eyes were swollen because Kristen cried herself to sleep last night.
Kristen took the ice pack out from the refrigerator and applied it to her eyes. Ten minutes later, the swelling finally went down.
Kristen made herself a simple breakfast. Then she got changed and put on light makeup before taking her medicine.
Kristen planned to move out in recent days, so the refrigerator had nothing left. She marked down everything she needed to buy on her phone.
There were a lot of things she had to buy, most of them were seasonings.
Kristen knew Marco’s favorite flavors. It was like a force of habit. Kristen might know Marco better than Marco knew about himself.
Marco was decisive in action. Yet unbelievably, he was extremely picky about food.
Marco didn’t like animal guts, feet, or heads. He preferred the light flavor. No spices were allowed in his food.
Kristen came up with an idea. She decided to buy everything Marco didn’t like to eat and cook for him.
She brought many spices and animal guts that would disgust Marco.
Then she paid the bill and had the groceries sent back home.
After she got home, Kristen quickly put on her apron. Then she was busy washing vegetables and cutting meat.
She cooked three fried dishes. In order to please Marco, she used to learn how to cook from a chef.
Kristen was a indeed good cook. She put a lot of pungent pepper into the pan, producing spicy smoke, so much that the exhaust hood couldn’t take it.
She sneezed and coughed. After cooking, Kristen quickly served the dishes.
There were three dishes and a bowl of soup. Kristen looked at the clock. It was 11:40 a.m. When Kristen wondered when Marco and Brenda would come, the door opened.
Kristen took her apron off and looked at the door. Marco came in with a suitcase in his hand. Brenda followed behind him.
Kristen had yet to speak when Brenda glanced at the table behind her and said weakly, “Sorry to disturb you. Thanks a lot for the dishes.”
Marco glanced coldly at her. Then he turned to Brenda and said, “Let me handle it. You go wash your hands first.”
Brenda nodded with a rosy face and said, “Thank you, Marco.”
Marco didn’t reply. He picked up Brenda’s big suitcase and walked upstairs. Kristen silently stood aside. Watching Marco and Brenda made Kristen sick.
Marco had already left, but Brenda still pretended to be weak. She shyly glanced at Kristen and then went to the bathroom.
Kristen rolled her eyes and thought, “Whatever. All I need is to ignore them.”
