Marco looked at her face. “What happened to you?”
The dim light shone on Kristen’s pale face.
Standing outside, Brenda heard no response from inside the room. So, she continued, “Marco, I’m not feeling well. If you and Ms. Lawrence are busy, then I will go to the hospital alone.”
“Wait a minute. I’ll take you to the hospital.” Marco got up, straightened up his clothes, and put a quilt on Kristen.
Marco went to open the door and glanced at Brenda, who was trembling and had tears in her eyes. Marco was a bit annoyed since Brenda disturbed him when he was with Kristen. Yet when Marco saw Brenda’s fragile face, he didn’t feel annoyed anymore.
“Are you having a headache?” Marco asked as he touched Brenda’s forehead.
Brenda explained, “I don’t know if I’ve got a concussion from the hit just now, but I am a little dizzy and I feel like puking… I’m trying to hold it to myself, but I just don’t feel well.” Brenda sniffed as she looked into the room meticulously. She then said with a hoarse voice, “I’m sorry if I’ve disturbed you and Ms. Lawrence. I didn’t mean to.”
Brenda looked pitiful with her watery eyes, which reminded Marco of Kristen’s pale face. Marco rubbed Brenda’s head and said softly, “You haven’t. I’ll take you to the hospital now.”
“What about Ms. Lawrence… Will she mind this?” Brenda’s aggrieved look made Marco feel even guiltier.
“She doesn’t matter to me as you do.”
Brenda was so pleased to hear that. She stopped frowning and pretended to worry about Kristen. “You can’t just say that. It will upset her.”
Kristen curled up in pain. She covered her ears so that she wouldn’t hear Marco and Brenda’s conversation, but their voices just got even clearer.
Marco’s hypocrisy made Kristen sick.
Marco treated Brenda with great patience and consideration while letting Kristen face his dark side.
Hearing that the door was slammed shut, Kristen slowly poked her head out from under the quilt. She staggered into the bathroom. The moment she lifted the lid of the toilet, she threw up. What she had eaten came out all at once.
Kristen could still sense Marco’s sickening smell. She only had some seafood soup for lunch. Since she had puked some time earlier, she had almost nothing in her stomach. All that came out from her mouth was acid vomit, which almost burned her throat and made her cry. Her pale face was drenched with tears.
…
Marco sent Brenda to the hospital for a check-up. Her head was just slightly injured from the bump. But Brenda did need a 40-minute injection since she had a fever.
Marco had always been on Brenda’s side, yet he seemed quite distracted while talking to her. Marco couldn’t help but fiddle with his phone when being with Brenda.
It had never happened before. Brenda felt threatened. Marco had once promised Brenda that when he put down the Lawrence family, he would divorce Kristen and marry Brenda, yet he never mentioned it again. It seemed that Marco became very offhand with Brenda.
The Lawrence family had been defeated. Even Kristen’s father jumped off the building and killed himself. However, Marco still did not divorce Kristen.
Brenda never said it out, but she knew it was because Marco started to have feelings for Kristen.
