Marco had fallen in love with Kristen, and he probably did not realize that.
Brenda closed her eyes. She could feel a sting in her heart as she thought of the conversation she heard outside Kristen’s room today. She clenched her fists tightly, feeling angry and jealous.
Brenda thought, “Why didn’t Kristen kill herself just like her father? Why didn’t she die? Why could Kristen still be Marco’s wife while I couldn’t?”
Brenda didn’t realize that her nails had sunk into her palms. Since she had moved into Band City, she would have lots of time to get back everything she wanted. Brenda only made the very first step that day.
After thinking it through, Brenda felt a little more relaxed. When she opened her eyes again, she looked just as innocent as before.
“Kristen doesn’t look well. Is she sick?”
“How could it be?” Although Marco said so, he could not help but think of Kristen. Kristen often got stomach conditions and she did not eat much at noon. Maybe she was having that condition again…
“She’s fine. You don’t have to worry about her. Just take care of yourself,” Marco said to Brenda, but he was more like comforting himself.
Brenda bit her lower lip and said with tears in her eyes, “I don’t think she likes me. I think I’d better move back to my place… But, I wanna be with you so much.”
“You don’t have to. I own the house now. You could live there as long as you like.” Marco found nothing wrong with Brenda and Kristen living together.
Marco and Kristen had not divorced yet, and the house was in his possession. That was to say, Marco could do whatever he wanted to the house. Kristen didn’t even have a say.
Brenda nodded and leaned into Marco’s arms with pleasure. “Marco, I love you so much.”
Marco said, “I’ll have a servant cook for you.”
Brenda asked, “Then can I choose one myself?”
Marco agreed. “Sure, as you wish.”
Brenda was happy about this.
Brenda and Marco were hanging out for the whole afternoon. Brenda went shopping at the mall. She even asked Marco to go see a movie with her. When they came out of the cinema, it was late.
Brenda suggested, “Let’s have dinner before we go back. I don’t think Kristen has prepared a meal for us.”
That was very likely. Marco nodded. Brenda chose a steakhouse because she knew it was one of Marco’s favorites.
It was already ten o’clock when they returned to Band City. The villa was dark and cold, as if no one lived here. Marco felt empty and alone when stepping into the living room.
Marco had Brenda by his side yet he just couldn’t help feeling alone.
In the past, if Marco came back late, Kristen would keep a light on for him. Kristen would also keep the dishes warm in case Marco got hungry. If Kristen knew Marco had gone to a business party, she would wait for him on the couch and serve him some tea to sober him up.
Marco thought for a while. The last time he came back late was two months ago. It hadn’t been long, yet it felt like a century to Marco.
Brenda saw that Marco was drowned in his thoughts and gently tugged his hand. “Marco, what’s on your mind?”
“Nothing.” Marco tilted his head and said, “You must be tired now. Go wash up and have a good rest. It’s your first day living here.”
“Where will you stay tonight?” Brenda asked bashfully yet she couldn’t help but feel excited.
Yet Marco didn’t get what she meant. “In my room.”
Brenda’s face instantly stiffened. She lowered her head instantly so that Marco wouldn’t see the twisted expression on her face. Brenda softened her voice and said, “I get it. I’ll go wash up.”
Every bedroom had an independent bathroom within it. Brenda deliberately left her door half-closed so that Marco could come in. She even changed into sexy pajamas for the night.
However, after taking a shower and waiting for Marco for a long time, Brenda had lost her last hope. Brenda got up and opened the door to check the dark corridor. There was a faint light.
Marco was standing at Kristen’s door.
Brenda bit her lower lip until she bled. Her lip hurt yet it didn’t hurt as much as her heart did.
Brenda found herself inferior, like an emperor’s concubine, dying for the emperor’s love. She was worse than that. A concubine could live under the name of the emperor’s woman, yet Brenda was more like a lady-in-waiting.
Brenda hated Kristen even more.
…
Marco stood at the door, holding the doorknob. He tried to push the door, yet he couldn’t. The door was locked from inside.
Marco knocked and knocked, but there was no response. His eyes were darkened, and his face looked grim in the dark.
Kristen didn’t want to let Marco in at all. Even if she heard the knock, she would not get up and answer the door.
Marco checked the time again. It was almost eleven o’clock. If he continued to make noise, Kristen wouldn’t open the door and Brenda would be woken up.
Brenda held her doorknob more tightly. She stared at Marco like a snake hunting prey. When she saw Marco turn around, she immediately hid in the room.
Brenda thought that Marco would go to her room since Kristen wouldn’t let him in. However, after waiting for a long time, Brenda heard the sound of the door closing from next door.
Brenda pursed her thin lips and her eyes reddened. Marco would rather sleep in the guest room alone than sleep with her.
