Kristen was relieved when she heard no noise from the door. Marco probably went to Brenda’s room. She was glad that she had arranged Brenda’s room far from hers. So, she wouldn’t have to suffer some unpleasant noises.
Without Marco, she could sleep tight at night. However, Kristen found it hard to fall asleep. She was in great pain and her head hurt as well. She looked through her drawer to get two sleeping pills. Having taken them, Kristen finally fell asleep.
…
Marco got up early, but when he went downstairs, he found that someone had gotten up earlier than him. He could smell paella once he got close to the dining hall.
Through the frosted-glass kitchen door, Marco could see a vague figure through the door. He suddenly recalled a classic line.
She had seen the beautiful world, yet she was willing to be confined in the kitchen.
Marco felt that a sense of warmth had soothed him. He did not immediately enter the kitchen but stood outside and watched the figure in the kitchen rushing around.
When the door was opened, Marco froze as he saw the person coming out. “It’s you.”
Brenda froze as well. She immediately understood that Marco recognized her as Kristen.
“I’m afraid that Kristen may not make you breakfast you like, so I got up to cook…”
Marco gained his senses back as well. He was a little embarrassed and regretted what he had said. He had no idea what was wrong with him that he often mistook Brenda as Kristen.
Marco muttered and looked at the kitchen uneasily. He tried to change the topic. “What’s for breakfast? It smells good.”
“Paella. I’ll go and bring it out.”
Brenda turned around and went into the kitchen to get some paella. The steam was hot as Brenda opened the lid.
“Watch out.” Marco walked in and took a handkerchief to carry the pot. “I’ll carry it. Just stay away. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Brenda had all Marco’s tenderness while Kristen had to take all his dark side.
Marco held the paella pot so that Kristen wouldn’t get hurt.
Brenda took two bowls out of the dishwasher. Marco took them over and put some paella in.
Brenda glanced upstairs and asked, “Should we wake Kristen up as well?”
“No. She is sleeping now.” It was hard to tell what Marco was thinking about from his face.
In the end, Marco added, “When the two of us are together, you don’t have to mention Kristen. I know you don’t feel good when talking about her.”
Marco knew that no one would like to share a lover with others.
Brenda had always been gentle. Brenda and Marco grew up together and Brenda even saved Marco’s life. They then became lovers. Though they were not married yet, they were closer than family.
Marco liked Brenda. It wasn’t physical. Marco just couldn’t help but treat Brenda gently.
The only problem was that Marco and Brenda never had sex. Marco thought Brenda was too naïve to think about having sex. Marco had tried to be intimate with Brenda, but somehow he didn’t feel right when he tried to.
Marco thought that he would be frigid to everyone when having sex, yet there was one exception.
It was Kristen.
Kristen was catty. Even her glance and her smile were attractive to Marco. He couldn’t help but feel turned on when he saw Kristen.
Marco wasn’t trying to justify himself. He knew he was guilty in the face of Brenda. So, he tried to offer Brenda everything she wanted.
Marco and Brenda got along well, as if they had been married for years. Brenda enjoyed being with Marco this way. Yet Brenda felt it was a pity that Kristen wasn’t here to see them in love.
Marco got a business call and he had to head to the company. When he set off, Brenda hurriedly brought him an umbrella. “It may rain. Take an umbrella with you.”
Brenda gazed at Marco when she said that. Brenda saw nothing but Marco.
Brenda was not prettier than Kristen. Her features were at best delicate, yet only average in Ratna City.
However, Brenda did have gorgeous eyes. Taking a closer look, her eyes looked quite similar to Kristen’s.
“Sure.” Marco took the umbrella and left.
Brenda stood at the door to see Marco off. She put her right hand on her neck. As Marco went away, her hand was tighter. Then there were some red marks on Brenda’s neck.
Kristen was woken up by hunger. She got up and stretched a bit. Then, she took out her phone and ordered takeout for breakfast.
After washing up, Kristen went downstairs. Kristen heard the sound of the TV in the living room. She stopped and realized that Brenda was in the house as well.
When Brenda saw Kristen come down, she faked a smile. “Did you sleep well last night, Kristen?”
