Kristen had thought of escaping, but after thinking it over, she gave up. Where could she go?
The entire Ratna City was under Marco’s control. Kristen was afraid that before she could get in the car, she would be tied up and sent back. The price might be bigger than she could afford.
Besides … Kristen had a brother.
Kristen didn’t mind dying right now since she had only a year or so to stay in this world. But she didn’t want to cause others trouble.
Marco knew what Kristen was most afraid of. As long as he held her weakness, Kristen would not be able to run away. As long as Marco threatened, Kristen would be driven back no matter how far she had run away.
Kristen couldn’t eat anything, but she felt too uncomfortable with her stomach. Therefore, she cooked two eggs and took them to her bedroom.
Kristen grabbed the eggs in her hands. Kristen waited from day to night, and the eggs turned cold from boiling hot. Finally, the sound of a car came from downstairs.
A ray of light gradually lit up the night. Kristen sat by the bed, her gaze sweeping from the window to the pile of glass shards on the ground.
Kristen came back to her senses. She picked up a broom and carefully swept the glass shards on the ground into a trash can.
As soon as Marco entered, he saw Kristen squatting on the ground and throwing a piece of glass into the trash can. His pupils shrank. The suppressed anger he had been suppressing along the way was now bursting out uncontrollably. He almost exploded because Kristen had smashed their wedding photos.
“Tell me. What did you do to Brenda today?”
What a pity. Although Kristen had guessed that Brenda would not die so easily, Kristen did not expect Brenda to recover so soon.
As soon as Brenda was fine, Marco ran over to question Kristen. Kristen thought that after the questioning, Marco would be going to teach her a huge lesson.
Kristen had once tied Marco to her side with a marriage contract. Now, the tables had turned, and the marriage certificate had become the last lock to lock her in this “cage”.
“Didn’t Brenda already tell you in the hospital? Do I have to repeat it?”
“Then you admit it,” Marco said expressionlessly. His face was as cold as the freezing night outside.
Kristen felt that it had turned cold again. It was so cold that her thoughts got a bit chaotic. She was slow in whatever she did. Kristen looked at Marco who was walking towards her step by step. She said, “Does it matter whether I admit it or not? You never believed me, just like you hadn’t asked me what Brenda had said to me.”
“Brenda was just sent out of the emergency room. She took sleeping pills to commit suicide because of you.”
“It’s a pity that she didn’t die,” Kristen accidentally said what she was thinking.
The word “die” was undoubtedly the most vicious curse for a patient who had just left the emergency room after committing suicide.
Marco’s face became fierce in an instant. The veins on his forehead bulged. He raised his hand and slapped Kristen.
Kristen immediately rolled down from the bed. Her palm pressed on a piece of glass. It hurt so much and even broke Kristen’s heart.
The sharp glass shards pierced directly into Kristen’s palm. That was the most delicate part of the human body. Kristen lowered her head and looked at her bloody right hand under the dim light.
A few drops of blood fell to the ground, but they were not from Kristen’s hand. Kristen raised her left hand to touch her mouth and nose, then quickly wiped away the blood.
“I forced her… Did I force her to take sleeping pills?”
“If you hadn’t called her a mistress and insulted her, would she have attempted suicide?” Marco narrowed his eyes and stared at Kristen. Kristen had her back to Marco and bent it a bit. Kristen’s head was lowered and her shoulders were trembling. Marco wondered what Kristen was doing.
Kristen sniffed and tried her best not to let the blood in her throat come out. Her voice was low to the extreme. “She scolded me for being cheap and said that I deserved it. My father even deserved to die…”
“Aren’t you?” Before Kristen could finish her sentence, Marco interrupted her with a sneer.
Kristen’s body stiffened as she heard his words.
Marco’s heartless comment lingered in Kristen’s mind.
Kristen’s eyes turned red. Tears welled up in her eyes. When Kristen came back to her senses, Marco had stood in front of her. Kristen looked at his lustrous leather shoes and looked up at Marco’s cold face.
“Is there anything wrong with what she said? Aren’t you cheap? Kristen, isn’t that how your father described you?”
