Kristen curled up under the quilt. The pungent smell of ointment almost drew tears out her eyes.
Marco didn’t know what to say. After applying the ointment for Kristen, he got up and went into the bathroom with pajamas in his hand.
The sound of water rang out. Kristen struggled to get up to take her pill from the drawer. Without taking any water, she put the pills into her mouth and swallowed them.
Marco had a quick shower and came out of the bathroom in less than ten minutes. He went straight to the bed and pulled Kristen into his arms.
Marco didn’t hug her gently. Kristen felt a bit uncomfortable in his embrace. She struggled and finally lost her patience. “Can you sleep in another room?”
“Where should I go?”
Kristen looked annoyed. “There are so many rooms here. If you don’t know where to go, why don’t you go to Brenda’s room? Didn’t you sleep well last night?”
“I’ve never slept with her!”
Kristen stiffened. Marco had never slept with Brenda? How could that be? Then what was the hickey on Brenda’s neck yesterday? And what did Brenda mean by those words?
Kristen did not believe Marco, but she didn’t think that there would be any reasons for Marco to lie.
Even if Marco hadn’t slept with Brenda the night before yesterday, there wouldn’t be any differences. The two had known each other for years. How could they have never had sex? Thus, there would be no difference to find out whether Marco had lied.
Kristen’s expression changed, and she chose to remain silent.
“Our relationship is not like what you think!”
Kristen sneered. “So what did I think of your relationship?”
Kristen’s question sounded aggressive. Marco did not feel angry. Instead, he found it quite interesting.
“Are you jealous?”
Marco took Kristen’s silence as tacit consent. The more Kristen remained silent, the more Marco confirmed his conjecture.
Marco chuckled. He tightened his grip on Kristen’s waist and leaned his head to her ear. “I have never slept with Brenda. Are you happy with that?”
How could this be? Marco and Brenda had been together for so many years. He could even hug or kiss Brenda in front of Kristen. How could Marco have never had slept with Brenda?
“It has nothing to do with me.” Kristen turned her face and leaned forward to dodge Marco’s kiss.
“Aren’t you happy with that?”
Kristen suddenly smiled. She had thick black eyebrows and long eyelashes. Her face was pretty charming. When Kristen smiled, no one could move eyes from her. However, her eyes looked gloomy in the dark.
“Not at all. I have a good memory. I can’t forget how I got injured. Isn’t it all because of you?”
Marco always said some sweet words after hurting Kristen. Sometimes, he was too lazy to even say some good words to fool Kristen. He never showed mercy or gentleness to Kristen. She had asked for it but never got it.
And now, Kristen no longer needed it.
Marco had never thought that Kristen would still be so stubborn even when he had bowed his head.
For the first time, Marco felt unfamiliar with the woman in his arms, as if he had never known Kristen before.
Kristen had changed. She should have put Marco fully in her heart and given in to Marco no matter what happened…
Some news about Kristen that Marco had seen a few years ago appeared in Marco’s mind. In the video, the reporters threw all kinds of tricky questions at Kristen, while she looked extremely calm. Kristen answered every offensive question and defended herself.
Kristen dealt with the trouble maturely. She didn’t look like a twenty-three-year-old girl to this extent. Kristen was composed and did very well at work like an experienced and skilled businesswoman.
Kristen was such a harsh woman, but she gave all the softness to Marco. Marco never cared about it, so he didn’t even realize when Kristen had changed her attitude to him.
Marco found no guts to dig deeper into it. When he thought about it, he felt as if his heart was being pricked by needles.
Marco suddenly reached out for Kristen’s face. Before he could touch Kristen’s skin, Kristen closed her eyes. Her eyelashes flickered as her lips trembled uncontrollably.
This was a subconscious reaction. Seeing Marco reach out for her face, Kristen thought Marco was going to slap her.
Marco’s heart ached even more than before. He touched Kristen’s face. “You are as timid as a rabbit, but you always anger me on purpose. That’s why I hit you, Kristen. Be good, and I won’t hit you again.”
One should be afraid of pain, so Marco believed that the pain could make Kristen “behave herself”. Kristen looked up. The coldness in her eyes had not faded. Marco didn’t know how to deal with this stubborn woman.
Kristen was like a hedgehog, and Marco found no way to tame her. Marco couldn’t bear to see her tears, while Kristen already didn’t care about his sweet words.
Kristen and Marco were in a deadlock for a while before Marco finally spoke. He covered Kristen’s eyes. “Sleep.”
Marco did not want to say anything more, afraid that Kristen would struggle and get her wound that had just been bandaged to bleed again.
“Since we did not divorce, you are still my wife.”
