Kristen stayed at home for five days. Her wound had already started to scab. It did not hurt any longer. It was itchy. She had almost recovered from her injuries and would be able to go out for an interview in a few days.
Marco went to the hospital to pick up Brenda. Before he left, he told Kristen to be kind to Brenda when Brenda came home.
Kristen agreed but did not take it seriously at all. At 5:00 pm., she began to cook dinner as usual.
Jade helped her to cook. It took them a lot of time to cook a three-course dinner. When they finished, it was almost eight o’clock.
The doorbell rang. Kristen asked Jade to open the door, but Jade didn’t answer.
Kristen took off her apron and went to open the door. She hadn’t recovered yet, so she walked very slowly. As soon as she opened the door, Kristen saw Marco first and then Brenda behind him.
Brenda was still afraid of Kristen. Brenda hid behind Marco and looked at Kristen nervously.
Kristen stood at the door and smiled. “Brenda, I’m glad that you are getting well.”
Brenda looked down and didn’t say anything as if she was bullied by Kristen again.
Kristen stared at Brenda for a second and said, “Fortunately, what you took were just sleeping pills. If you cut your wrist, I’m afraid you won’t wake up at that time.”
Kristen’s words were like needles that stabbed towards Brenda’s weak spot.
Kristen was not a saint. Because of Brenda, she got injured all over. Thus, she couldn’t pretend to be kind as if nothing had happened.
Brenda’s face turned gloomy. Brenda looked at Marco. Seeing that Marco was calm, she heaved a sigh of relief. “I’m sorry. I was too impulsive.”
Kristen said with a smile, “Never mind. If you lose too much blood, it will be more troublesome. I’ll have to donate my blood to you.”
Marco went in and pushed Kristen gently. Kristen’s leg was injured. She staggered forward and almost lost her balance.
Marco said in a warning tone, “Stop talking nonsense. Get in. It’s time for dinner.”
Kristen did not say anything. However, Brenda pretended to be innocent. She pulled Marco’s sleeve and said mildly, “Kristen said that because she cares about me. You’ve just promised me not to get angry on the way…”
Kristen was walking into the dining room when she heard the words of that bitch. She smiled and thought, “What a hypocritical woman.”
The hatred in Kristen’s eyes was noticed by Marco.
Marco stared at Kristen coldly. He was not that angry. He just wanted to tell her to be nice. After all, Kristen would live with Brenda in the future. Marco didn’t want Kristen to cause trouble.
“Brenda has forgiven you, yet you are still here throwing tantrums.”
Kristen pretended she had not heard his words. She washed her hands and took some soup.
They fell silent at dinner time. What can be heard was just the tinkling of the dinnerware.
After dinner, Marco and Brenda went out for a walk. Kristen was sitting on the sofa reading a book.
After washing the dishes, Jade saw that Kristen was still sitting alone on the sofa. She hesitated but still asked, “Ms. Lawrence, shall I help you go upstairs?”
“Thanks, but I can walk.” Kristen put down the book and shuffled up to the second floor.
Now that she could walk without help, it should not be a problem to work.
Kristen had just arrived upstairs when she heard a noise coming from downstairs. She leaned on the railing and looked down. It was Marco and Brenda who had just come home.
Jade made a glass of lemonade and brought it to Brenda. It was something normal, but Kristen found it a little strange.
Jade held a completely different attitude towards Brenda and her.
