Antonio arranged a young female doctor for Kristen. She was twenty-five years old and her name was Maritza Shaffer.
She had a baby face and had her long hair in a bun.
Kristen thought Maritza was a friendly and extroverted girl. However, Maritza was quiet and seldom smiled.
After Maritza knew that Kristen was pregnant, she said with a straight face, “You are not suitable for pregnancy now.”
Kristen froze for a moment before turning to look at Antonio.
“You know your body well. Both you and your baby are not ready. You need to have an abortion.” Then Maritza gave a few examples to persuade.
“Sorry for being blunt, but it’s the truth. It’s up to you whether to give birth to this baby.”
Maritza was frank. Kristen’s impression of her had changed from dull to reliable.
Antonio and the doctors who had examined her before advised her to keep the baby, while Maritza asked her to have an abortion.
Kristen placed her hand on her abdomen. “I’ve also decided to abort it.”
Maritza nodded in agreement. “But your current situation is not good. You can come to the hospital after resting for one or two weeks. I will give you a painless abortion.”
Maritza had heard from Antonio that Kristen disliked pain.
Kristen nodded.
The two reached an agreement. Antonio couldn’t even say a word and only glanced at Maritza. He was dissatisfied with her straightforwardness.
He thought that Kristen lacked the motivation to live, which could be provided by her unborn baby.
Maritza said to Kristen, “Then you will be under my care from now on.”
“Okay.” Although Maritza was young, Kristen was safe around her.
Maritza gave Kristen a prescription, which cost more than 120 dollars. She took the medicine and the examination report and went out of the diagnosis room.
Oliver was standing outside the door, waiting for her, detached.
Many people looked at such a handsome man.
Oliver seemed to hate it when others looked at him. He frowned and lowered his head.
Seeing Kristen come out, his brown eyes lit up and then he walked towards her.
Kristen carried the bag. “Let’s go back.”
Oliver nodded and looked at Antonio, who was standing next to Kristen. Seeing him stroking Kristen’s head, Oliver clenched his fist.
He disliked the doctor.
Antonio wanted to send Kristen out of the hospital, but he was called by the nurse to the surgical ward.
Oliver followed behind Kristen and stared at her long hair. He raised his hand and wanted to touch her head but finally gave up.
The orphanage director had said that he could not touch girls casually, or he would be hated.
Kristen did not notice Oliver’s action.
“Do you know that doctor?”
“What?” Kristen turned around and saw Oliver’s hesitant expression. She understood what he wanted to ask.
She replied, “I grew up with him, just like siblings.”
Hearing this, Oliver relaxed.
Kristen had been looking at his face. Oliver’s face lit up with joy now.
She smiled, not knowing why she would explain her relationship with Antonio to Oliver.
They arrived at the orphanage by taxi. Oliver got out of the car and waited for her.
“You can go back. I won’t go with you.”
Oliver was anxious. He could not express his idea fluently and only shook his head. “No.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll come back another day.”
Oliver did not believe it. Many people left the orphanage and never came back. Moreover, Kristen had said this many times, but she never kept her word.
“My car is in the orphanage. I can’t drive it today. I will get it some other day,” Kristen explained patiently, “Trust me, I’ll come back. I’ll bring you some biscuits later.”
“Really?” Oliver almost cried.
“I promise!” Kristen comforted him, “Be good and take care of the children in the orphanage, okay?”
Kristen spoke softly. Oliver pursed his lips, unwilling to part with Kristen.
“Okay.”
Kristen closed the car door and told the driver to leave.
The car drove away, but she still saw Oliver in the rearview mirror.
Kristen had an indescribable feeling. It was like having bittersweet ice cream. She felt uncomfortable.
Oliver was like her. She had also watched Marco leave from a distance, repeatedly confirmed that he would return home, and waited uneasily for his answer.
She did not know the reason. They had known each other for less than a day.
She wondered whether he fell in love with her.
Kristen did not know Oliver liked her and even wanted to hide her.
Oliver was dependent on her. He would care about her and feel sorry for her. He hated it when others touched Kristen. If Kristen got angry with him, he would do everything to apologize.
