As soon as we left from Tartaria Bakery, we were about to go to another store just in time when we were being stopped by Yunifer’s another maid, Eavy.
She was staring at us like a hawk. So stern that Yunifer flinched and the corner of Eavy’s mouth twitched.
She looked over Illiya and Cindy’s hands that were filled with a pile of boxes in great displeasure. She scoffed.
At a glance, I could tell that Eavy was barely holding back. As though a thin rope of patience broke, Eavy snapped, “Milady! You have gone shopping for five hours!”
Yunifer groaned irritably and called back, “Ugh! So?”
“What do you mean, ‘so? ’ ?” Eavy raised her voice to the point her throat hoarse and she needed to cough to ease when she was speaking.
“Well, I don’t see anything wrong about it.” Yunifer said innocently that deceived nobody and shrugged. She covered her ears with her hands as though the matter was actually simple and walked past Eavy.
“OK guys, which store should we stop by now? I want to go there!” Yunifer said casually and pointed to a nearby shop across the road.
I could not help but feel so sorry about her for taking care of Yunifer, so I cast an apologetic look at Eavy. She was shaking with fury.
“Yuni, I think we should stop.” I tugged Yunifer’s dress and pulled her over, nervously glancing at Eavy.
“Why? I haven’t show you another st — “
“Could you guys please stop?” Eavy interrupted through gritted teeth. “And you, Lady Yunifer Aventurine — “
Uh, oh. I gulped.
I think Yunifer was in great danger. Eavy spoke her full name, that was a sign she was already on top of her breaking point. It would only just take a moment for the volcano to erupt.
“ — have you forgotten about what the duke said before you went shopping?”
“Er — “ Yunifer screwed up her face as though she was trying to remember something very unpleasant. She scratched her head awkwardly.
“Go back after going to Tartaria Bakery?” she asked in a small voice. Eavy, who was glaring at her, changed her expression. She let out a sigh of relief.
“That’s very good of you, milady. (As expected from someone who is an idiot for the rest of her life. She took a day to realize the actual meaning, how stupid. ).” Eavy smiled reassuringly.
But somehow, I wondered why I could guess the meaning behind her words.
“As your most loyal servant (I will quit if you still don’t let go of your bad habits ), I’m glad (let’s not waste my time here) that you could finally remember (after you dig in your messy, stupid brain ) the duke’s words,” she said with a stiff smile spreading across her screwed up face.
My gaze met with Eavy. I turned my gaze away instantly as I had to fight down a laugh as I watched the comedic duo fight like a cat and a dog in front of me.
Eavy was definitely cursing Yunifer for being a halfwit without her knowledge.
“Now, why don’t we go home for a rest, milady? I’m sure the duke missed you so much.” Eavy clasped her hands, beaming, though I was sure it was fake.
“That was a lie, and you know that, don’t you?” Yunifer leaned closer and whispered to me.
“I’m sorry, but did I hear that right?” asked Eavy in a girly high-pitched voice that almost sounded like a toad.
“…”
Yunifer gave the meaningful look that translated like this, “Do I look like I care about the shitty words you are spouting just now?”
“…”
“…”
There was a brief silence between them and me as I watched their argument. It was definitely hilarious.
Eavy was still glaring at Yunifer, who tried to keep her expression neutral. If she did not do or say anything stupid, she might just be in for the treat of a lifetime.
Yunifer waited for Eavy to say something, but she merely continued to glare at her. So, Yunifer decided to break the silence.
“OK, give me more time — “
Eavy cut her words immediately and bowed before me, and to my surprise, along with Yunifer’s other maids, Illiya and Cindy, who were just standing by, watching their fight quietly, bowed before me too.
They were bowing at me respectfully so I merely just nodded. Cindy said, “We apologize, Lady Lunaria.”
I tilted my head, wondering why, but no words came out.
“…?”
“Since we could not take over the (monster ) lady by words, it looks like we need to use the last resort,” whispered Eavy seriously, keeping her voice down so that only Illiya and Cindy could hear her.
She nodded to Cindy and Illiya and they both nodded too.
“Pft — what do you guys want now? If I want to shop, then I am. No one is going to stop me!” said Yunifer confidently with a smug look on her face.
But the maids said nothing and just ignored her words.
It took me a few seconds to realise what they were going to do.
No way …
‘Don’t tell me, they are going to do ‘that’?’
I gasped as I watched them with a horrified look.
“Call the knights,” Eavy ordered.
“We understand, Eavy,” replied Cindy.
Like it was a flash, four shielded knights appeared from nowhere like magic in the blink of an eye. Each of them were wearing serious expressions. And under the order of Eavy, they seized Yunifer and grabbed her forcefully.
Taken aback by the sudden actions, Yunifer yelled, “NOOOOO! LUNA, HELP MEEEEEEE!”
She was struggling to fight down the strength of the knights as they pushed her into her carriage.
I waved Yunifer a goodbye. Looks like it was time for me to say goodbye.
I nodded. Let’s part on this way, Yuni.
Yunifer was giving me a teary look like a puppy. She was crying so hard that the passer-bys also began to shed tears as they watched the dramatic scene happen before their very eyes.
“LUNAAAAA!”
I shook my head and turned my gaze away from the heart-wrenching drama.
“LUNAAAAA!” Yunifer shouted again.
I’m sorry, Yunifer. But I love my life thousands of times more than you. I don’t want to risk my life in this timeline.
“LUNA, HELP ME! ”
Please … May you rest in peace, my dear friend.

Inside the carriage, Yunifer protested about the treatment she got as the lady of the house Aventurine. She clearly looked dissatisfied as she spoke to Eavy.
“Why do you do that?” she asked angrily, looking furious and gloomy at the same time.
“Well, you see, we’ve got no choice … either talk sweet to you, and we all know that’s not going to work, or force you,” replied Eavy, trying to hide the satisfaction and happy tone when she spoke. Her lips twitched, and she tried to be as casual as she could.
“You devious — manipulate — rotten – “
“I’ll take that as a compliment, milady,” said Eavy brightly, no longer pretending to be remorseful.
Yunifer felt a second stab of annoyance. She was about to say that thing but decided to shut her mouth as she knew that was a sure way to get Eavy’s temper up.
So instead, she just threw sparks and curses on her right hand maid, Eavy and blamed her to ease her feelings.
“Don’t be so mad, milady. We all do this for the sake of the Dalfon duchy,” answered Illiya timidly, glancing at Yunifer guilty.
Yunifer looked away as she heard those words. Her grips tightened on the hem of her dress and she gnashed her teeth.
Inside her heart, she was cursing her brother, the duke of Dalfon. ‘That bastard … Why must he crush my plans! I couldn’t play with Luna anymore!”
“Milady, you shouldn’t be mad at the duke. His Excellency only does this for your sake,” said Eavy, seemingly as though she could read Yunifer’s mind.
“You !” Yunifer shrieked and she threw her a dark look. “And why is it for my sake?”
But Eavy did not reply. Instead, she flashed a strange smile and turned her head away, watching the scenery as the carriage passed by, silently.
Yunifer’s face hardened, but she said nothing and just continued to glare at her bold maids.
It was a heavy tense atmosphere between them. None of them spoke and this allowed them to have time to think for themselves.
As Yunifer’s head turned to the window, she was so deep in thought that the scenery outside the carriage passed by as if nothing to her.
She instantly realised one thing she got from her shopping trip with her best friend, Lunaria.
“Hey,” she called the passengers. Her maids, Illiya, Cindy and Eavy’s gazes were on her, tilting their heads.
Yunifer cleared her throat and coughed several times before confessing, “Don’t you guys feel something was strange about Luna?”
Her question was not being answered immediately. Both Illiya and Cindy threw her a strange and puzzled look. Meanwhile, Eavy just stared at her calmly as if she already got used to her craziness and absurdity.
Seeing there was no response, Yunifer could not help but frown. Was it only her that only noticed Lunaria’s sudden change of behaviour?
She closed her eyes and thought deeper, taking a deep, long breath.
But no matter how many days or years had flown by, someone’s behaviour could not change so easily.
It would take several years to change, but the person she met today had just completely changed.
To be honest, she felt for the first time that Lunaria was a completely different person, another stranger she thought that she spoke to. She shuddered in fear at the thought and shook her head wildly.
Was it not for Lunaria calling her name and recalling their past, then Yunifer would think she was a stranger or someone who possessed Lunaria’s body.
But it was different.
No matter what, Yunifer felt this kind of fear and coldness coming from Lunaria, especially her gaze as if she knew everything. Despite that, she felt a strange, gentle and warm feeling when she spoke to her.
Lunaria also called her so gentle and looked at her weirdly too, and she beamed at everything Yunifer did. This gave Yunifer another tremble as she recalled it.
Yunifer rubbed her knuckles and sighed. The past few days that she had gone through too had been weird for her.
She unconsciously massaged her forehead to soothe the wrinkles forming on it.
Why did ‘that ’ Lunaria apologize to her for her bad treatment in the past?
But no matter what you see, that was a peculiar thing to do for someone who had just woken up from a coma. Unless, he felt he had wronged another person and apologized immediately to avoid him seeking vengeance on him.
However, Yunifer was completely different about it. She felt as if the world collapsed around her when she got the news that Lunaria was poisoned. And it made her heart beat fast and leapt madly when she heard Lunaria had woken up.
For all the times Yunifer spent with Lunaria, she knew one thing: Lunaria was completely indifferent, ignorant and seemed to despise her. She did not cover her favour towards Karina, her other best friend.
No, Yunifer shook her head.
There was only one best friend Lunaria actually had. And that was: Karina.
Yunifer was not her best friend in the first place and she knew it immediately after she got such treatment from the so-called best friend who called she was her best friend too.
Yunifer felt dejected and upset when she knew it, but she did not mind.
For her, it was alright if Lunaria actually loathed her.
It was alright.
Definitely.
But … if it was alright, then why did she cry every day and night?
Why did she feel so bad about herself that made her go mad?
Lunaria was the only friend Yunifer had and not many ladies wanted to befriend a rude lady like her.
So to her who definitely had no friends, Lunaria was like a goddess who gave her the light and colouring her everyday life with splendid things.
Besides, she also is very gregarious. She has lots of friends who flock to her day and night, unlike certain someone.
Yunifer would often felt helpless when it comes to befriend the other ladies, so she reached Lunaria’s hands without thinking.
Yunifer heaved a sigh.
In conclusion, Lunaria behaved differently and strangely today and the past few days. She was already used to her bad behaviour and the sudden change made her startled. She also rubbed her eyes a few times to see Lunaria’s change clearly, as though that was only her imagination, but it was not.
But how do you put it … ?
Yunifer, however, felt glad and pleased about her friend’s change. It felt as if she had been rescued by someone from tons of rocks that hit her body.
From the past few years, Yunifer had always thought she was the bad person in her friendship with Lunaria and Karina. The people around her had always said she needed to change her behaviour if she wanted to get married to a decent man. But the words felt as if nothing to her since she did not want to get married anyway.
But, people often would talk behind her back without her knowledge, and it felt like numerous arrows pierced her heart at the same time.
Something Yunifer had once heard Lunaria said came floating out of her memory.
“Haa … Yuni, you’re too kind for me. Somehow, I don’t think we’re matched at all.”
Without realizing it, Yunifer grinned. So, she was not the bad person she had always thought, and that made her sighed in relief.
Today, it looks like her eyes would not be swollen when the night comes and she could fall into sleep peacefully and soundly.
