After Yunifer had left, I continued my shopping, deciding it was still early to go home. As I continued to walk around Trivalon Square, Blaire and I passed a jewellery store.
I came into a halt as a hairpin which was displayed in the front store caught my eyes.
“Milady?” asked Blaire, tilting her head.
“I’ll take this,” I took the hairpin and raised it to my eye level, examining it with one eyed closed.
The shopkeeper nodded in understanding and packed the hairpin. Blaire took out some gold coins to pay for it.
As we cotinued to walk, I took out the box and gave it to Blaire. “Here.”
“Hmm?”
“You take this.”
“…What?” questioned Blaire, frowning and her hands extended forward, wanting to reach out for the box. “Do you want me to carry this?”
“No,” I said, waving my hands. I tore off the package and threw the box in a dustbin. I picked up the golden hairpin and placed it on Blaire’s hand.
“This is my present to you. Do you like it?”
Blaire’s eyes glittered and she blinked. Her both hands were shaking while holding the golden jade hairpin. “Milady … is this for me …?”
“Who else if it isn’t you?” I questioned, raising my eyebrows and started to grin.
I really wanted to thank her for all the things she had done in the past, so I thought of giving her a present.
But I don’t know which one suited her the best, so I picked a random golden hairpin which caught my gaze when we passed a jewellery store.
“It’s not much, but I hope you will take it.”
I coughed in embarrassment and scratched my neck awkwardly after seeing there was no response from her.
“Oh my god, milady … I’m so touched! This is already enough for me … ” Blaire whimpered. She raised the hairpin in the air and yelled, “I will make this my family’s heritage!”
I chuckled and turned my gaze away from Blaire, hiding the red colour that was rising on my cheeks. “You are always exaggerating everything, Blaire.”
“I’m not!” She denied and shook her head. Her eyes glistened and she was brimming with happiness. “It’s just … I’m too happy to receive a gift from milady!”
“Then, I will make sure to give you presents and rewards from now on.” I grinned. “Why don’t you try it?”
“Can I?” Blaire squealed in delight.
“Of course, you can. It’s yours now,” I pointed that out.
Blaire carefully took the hairpin and slipped it into her bun. Just like I thought, it suited her perfectly.
I cracked into a smile.
“But … are you sure I can take this, milady? It’s too expensive for a mere commoner like me to wear it, right?” Blaire asked uncertainty. She threw me an awkward and uncomfortable look.
“It’s a gift from your lady. You need to be happy and grateful when you receive a gift from your master because she won’t give presents to anyone … but you.”
“Oh! Alright … I understand …” Blaire nodded her head.
Then, both of us bursted into laughter until we heard someone shout from behind the wall brick.
“How could she do that to you, Karina?!”
As soon as I heard the name, ‘Karina’, I immediately rushed to see the voice without thinking. I hid behind the walls and perked up my ear, listening closely and brought my face to the wall, watching them from afar.
Hiding behind the view, I saw Karina, the one who wore a bright yellow hat with a green dress, was chatting loudly with a group of unknown ladies I have never met before. I squinted my eyes to see clearly and instantly realized the ladies’ identities.
“So you have got another new followers, huh, Karina?” I snorted.
As expected from a dog like you who could not sit still just for a moment. Let’s see what you were up to now.

“I swear to God, she is the worst lady I have ever met for the rest of my life!” Gabriellica claimed, folding her arms furiously.
Marthabess replied with a frown, “She only acts a bit to you, Gabriellica. Not like me. I don’t see any reasons for you to be so furious over nothin -”
“A little bit of bitchy attitude!” shouted Gabriellica, squeezing her eyes and shutting them with a grimace as though Marthabess had mortally offended her. “Explain, Dotty. Explain …”
“Well … when we were ten, Martha, — young, carefree and innocent — ”
Karina scoffed. She doubted whether Gabriellica and Dorothea had ever been innocent and pure, but quickly smiled sweetly as honey when they noticed her nasty expression.
“ — well, more innocent than we are now — we got into a row with Lady Lunaria,” explained Dorothea breathlessly.
“We had always thought Lady Lunaria was such a gentle, loving and sweet child, too innocent for this cruel world — ”
“But we never knew her true face until one day — “
“That is, she is such a bitch — “ Gabriellica interrupted, making an impatient noise.
“Seducing everyone with her ugly face — “
“But it doesn’t work for me, no, sorry — us …”
“Well — she had framed us and made us lose our face in front of the emperor,” told Dorothea shortly, finishing the story.
Marthabess choked and her eyes bulging, looking straight through Dorothea and Gabriellica with a pale face. “W-What?”
“You — are — kidding — ” uttered Karina under her breath in disbelief, fanning herself. Her eyes shook and darted from Dorothea and Gabriellica.
“No, it was true!” Gabriellica defended her words and cast a glance at her friend, Dorothea. “Right, Dotty?”
Dorothea nodded approvingly. “Everything Gabby said was true.”
“We would like to tell you the whole story. But it was too long and I fear it would be months for us to leave this Square.”
Marthabess gulped, looking fearfully and hesitated. She lowered her head and whispered quietly, “So, how did you guys manage to be alive until now?”
Dorothea clicked her tongue angrily. “Oh, we only lose our face. But it crushed our pride and dignity. My father needed to apologize and lowered his head to the duke.”
Karina asked thoughtfully, “Are you guys alright now? Having a bad memory like that would disturb your happiness.” She looked so concerned about their problems.
“We still couldn’t forget it, though. My father told me to calm down and let him settle all the things,” told Gabriellica.
“But I have never forget her face when she smiled behind her father’s back, looking so happy when she saw us messed up.”
“Ugh! Why does that bitch always get away with everything?” yelled Marthabess, seemingly unable to restrain herself.
She was trembling with fury and her face stretched that made her appear to look more like an old grandmother rather than her teenage face.
“Well … that happens because she is the Lady of the Great House Lisianthus!” replied Gabriellica furiously, stomping her feet.
Dorothea rolled her eyes irritably and crossed her arms. “She gets that by luck. Let’s see if she is reborn again, I’m 100% sure she will be born in a poor, filthy commoner family.”
Marthabess turned her attention to Karina and said seriously, “Karina, I heard that you got shutted by the Lisianthus duchy and got kicked out.”
Karina flinched. “Oh, that!”
Gabriellica pushed away Marthabess and went to Karina’s side, tightening her grips on Karina’s arms. She said, “I heard it’s only a rumour!”
“But it is true …?” Dorothea asked kindly.
“Er – yes it is.” Karina lowered her head, trying to hide from the embarrassment that was clearly written on her face. She could not deny it anymore since many people saw it.
“I can’t believe she kicked you out!” Gabriellica screamed. “Aren’t you guys best friends?”
Karina was going, if possible, even redder. She shook her head and changed the topic. “Er – the weather is pretty good, huh?”
Dorothea cast a glare on her. She pointed her plump finger in Karina’s way, warning her in a deadly serious voice, “Don’t you dare change the topic!”
Karina hesitated and she looked troubled. Suddenly tears streaming down from her eyes. “W-well … I t-thought w-we are … b-but … I couldn’t be-believe she doesn’t want to see my face!”
She was fidgeting and tried to hide her tears by looking away, rubbing her face and dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief. But her arms were grabbed by Marthabess and Dorothea forcefully.
“Don’t cry, Karina!” They comforted her together. Gabriellica pat Karina’s shoulders and her back, giving a sympathetic gaze to the pi
tiful Lady Karina.
“You are not the only one, though. I guess we are all the same. We are treated like bugs in her eyes!” Gabriellica confessed, shaking her head.
Dorothea let out a long sigh. “Don’t expect Lunaria to treat us kindly when she behaves so indecently and mighty to us ladies!”
“She’s rotten to the core!” All of them agreed with this as they nodded their heads together.
“She’s so evil! Her best friend visited her but she kicked her out? Is she out of her mind?” Gabriellica raised her voice. The passer-byes glanced at them.
“Dear, dear, Karina … Why do you even tolerate Lunaria’s behaviour? You should have just call her out!” suggested Gabriellica, shaking her head in astonishment.
Karina fidgetted. Stuttering, she answered back, “W-well … she is m-my … only friend! Even if she behaves badly, she will always be my first friend!”
This left the other ladies speechless. They were so shocked that they did not notice their jaws dropping.
Dorothea threw her arms and wrapped them around Karina’s body. She buried her face into Karina’s shoulder and said sniffily, “Oh, my! You’re too precious, Karina! Too precious for this world’s own good!”
Karina’s eyelids fluttered. She did not expect this. But it was alright since the conversation was going in her way.
“Don’t be so sad, Karina!”
“Yeah, we’ll be your friends!” Marthabess consoled her.
“Forget about the wretch! Be friends with us instead!”
Karina hesitated for a while. “Thank you, ladies. But … she’s still my friend … so I can’t leave her! If I leave her, then I’ll be alone, with no friends. But then again, I don’t expect her to loathe me so much.”
“…What?” Gabriellica’s eyes grew wider. She was startled that her fan dropped on the ground.
Marthabess shrieked, “You shouldn’t be like that, Karina! How can an unvile bitch like her deserve you?!”
Dorothea nodded approvingly. She scratched her chin and pondered, “Doesn’t she already have another best friend? What’s her name again … Juniper?”
“Lady Yunifer,” Karina corrected her quickly. She covered her face with her fan, attempting to hide the smile that formed on her lips.
‘Good, this is what I want!’ she told herself and took a deep breath.
Karina intended to plummet Lunaria’s reputation by making use of the incident that happened last week to gain sympathy from the ladies.
As a result, this would label her as an evil friend who hates her own best friend. Besides, this would certainly convince other people that Lunaria was bullying her, thus even worsening her public image and reputation.
“Yes, Lady Yunifer! Anyway – see, she has another friend! She doesn’t need you! Then, forget about her!” said Dorothea.
“Er – ” Karina was reluctant and she swallowed down her saliva, looking uncertainty. Her breathing seemed difficult again.
Marthabess was breathing deeply, her fists clenched. “Why did she wake up so soon though? I wish she would sleep for the rest of her life.”
Dorothea snarled at her. “Don’t be so ungrateful, Martha. We need to thank the person who poisoned her.” She winked playfully.
“I heard the culprit hasn’t been caught yet. We must pray and offer our thanks to him for making that bitch stay sleeping for two years,” said Gabriellica jokingly, twirling her hair with her slender fingers playfully.
“Oh, yes, we should,” said Marthabess. The rest of the group laughed together without noticing the look on Karina’s face. She was no longer shedding crocodile’s tears, but revealed a strange smile.
Under the pretense of her adorable and kind smile, she was hiding a wicked mind from the ladies.
Smirking, Karina whispered softly that she was the only one who could hear it. “You ladies should thank me for poisoning that bitch and making her sleep peacefully during the past two years.”
