The night gradually darkened and as the other nights are always exceptionally cold, thus when someone walk outside, the wind seemed to blow into the bones and each little movement would fee painful.
In the sinister prison, the wind whistled into the small window opening which made the people in the prison shrunk into a ball.
Gina who had already wrapped in a torn quilt tightly around her body and only her head was revealed, struggled to get to close the windows that the wind was blowing into.
Sadly, her hands were being chained against the wall. She tried to close the windows using her feet but she was not tall enough even when she stood on tiptoes.
In a moment later, she gave up in this intended plan as she feared that by using more strength, it would make herself even weaker.
When the warden who was doing his round saw this scene, he only smiled and did not go forward to help.
As he stayed in this sinister place for a long period of time, to some extent he would become somewhat distorted and most likely would feel that seeing the prisoners suffering was also a type of entertainment, at least for now it was.
The warden still remembered the harsh order of the butler, Sir Cervantes when he commanded him to guard this prisoner for committing a crime, which was stealing the lady’s accessories.
He would not allow anyone to help her nor feed her food. She only need to drink water for the rest of her days in the prison as the lady had instructed. Few days from now, she would be punished and her hands would be cut.
“Come to have a good gloat, are you?” asked Gina savagely, as he stopped in front of her cell. Her lip was trembling in fury.
“Oh well, I might have some fun seeing prisoner like you in this place,” replied the warden shrewdly, rubbing his hands.
Gina glared at him and did not bother to cover the hatred in her eyes. She turned away and gritted her teeth irritably.
In the few days after coming to this place, she had suffered what she should have and did not know if that ‘one ‘ had arranged anything, as this warden did not treat her any difference from the others and even make fun of her suffering.
She stroked her feet on the ground. She did not know the reason but the words that her lady said in the afternoon made her felt an extremely fear.
This was what she had never felt before, not even in the beginning when she was arrested she had such thoughts that there would be people coming to save her.
Especially from that person.
The warden took a final glance at her and headed outside when Gina suddenly said, “Hey, you.”
He stopped dead in his track and he walked to her but stayed for a few metres from her. Most likely he was unable to stand the body odour from Gina’s body.
He disgustedly waved, “What?”
“Have my lady said anything to come to see me? Or perhaps some messages for me?”
She held back her anger and asked gently. Just a small ranking warden even dared to use such despising eyes to look on her.
If it was the past when she still the lady’s first rank maid, he could not wait to fawn her and tried every means to curry favour so that he would get a raise paycheck from the lady.
This damn small rat!
The warden laughed, “What are you thinking? Your crime had already exposed, who dared to come to see you? And you say the lady? She already cried out when you were being charged guilty. Besides, other than Blaire, no one had asked for your information.”
When the warden said till there, his tone had some ridicule to it. Hearing Blaire’s name, Gina shivered in anger.
She yelled, “That bitch! If it was not for her, then I wouldn’t be thrown out to this filthy place! Hey you, you’d better let me out—“
Her yell immediately died down when she was interrupted by a voice coming from another cell.
“Shut up! I said — shut — up! “
Gina shrunk to the wall and muttered something under her breath like “crazy, mad, dangerous, filthy thing.”
The warden chuckled, ignoring Gina’s glared and swept passing her cell. He shook his head in amusement and broke into a grin.

It was past midnight and the weather did not seem to make it good as it was now starting to rain.
The cold breeze made the warden who was guarding in his spot chilled. He hastily covered himself in a warm knitted scarf and clasped his hands, rubbing them against each other to generate the heat.
He headed to the small counter and sat down, crossing his legs onto the fire. He glanced at the tiny watch on the counter.
“Oh, it’s 12 o’clock. Gotta have 4 hours l-le-left…. Hwaaa… ” he yawned. He felt sleepy and brew himself a coffee in the pantry and slapped his face for several times to stay awake.
It was then when he heard knocking on the counter.
Knock! Knock!
He turned around. “Coming!”
“Oh! “
He gasped as he scanned the person in front of him. It was a tall, skinny person covered in a huge cloak. He couldn’t guessed the gender as he couldn’t see his face since it was covered with a veil.
“I wish to speak with Gina Caesar, a prisoner who was brought down here this afternoon,” said the figure straightforwardly without even care about introducing itself.
By hearing the voice, the warden instantly knew it belonged to a young woman around the age of his daughter.
However, this irritated him as the woman not only dare to order him around, she also didn’t even care the slightest bit of showing respect.
To him, she was a rude lady.
“Now, now, miss. I don’t know who you are, but don’t think of —-“
Before the warden finished his words, the young woman already took out a sack from her pocket which full of gold coins in it and shoved it to the warden’s hands.
“Take it. This is enough for 3 hours. I want to be here for the time being with no one around.”
The warden’s eyes bulged. He immediately weighed the sack and thought it might contained around 50 gold coins. He grinned in delight, then he bowed 90 degree towards the young woman.
“I thank you for your generosity, miss. I hope you have a good day.”
He clumsily gave the young woman a key and scratched his head awkwardly.
“The person you wished is in Number 13. Here is your key.”
The young woman merely nodded and strode past him.
She calculated the prison cell quietly as she walked along past them. After a few minutes, she finally found the cell.
Clang!
Gina woke up with a start as she watched the intruder curiously entered her cell who carefully closed the bar behind her for fear that she might awake the other prisoners who sleep soundly.
The young woman narrowed her eyes as she saw Gina’s condition.
A mass of filthy, matted hair hung to her elbows. If eyes hadn’t been shining out of the deep, dark sockets, she might have been a corpse. The waxy skin was stretched so tightly over the bones of her face, it looked like a skull.
Then, the young woman took a step closer. Her eyes were fixed on Gina.
“You! Who sent you here? I know who you are! Blaire!” roared Gina.
She was the only person whom Gina thought of who would want to have a good laugh.
The taunt about when she exposed Gina’s crimes rang in her ears as though Blaire had bellowed it. A boiling hate erupted in her chest, leaving no place for fear.
Without knowing what she was doing, she started forwards, but there was a sudden movements on either side of her and two chains were binding her and held her back.
“Even if you are here to kill me, you can’t. Because I will shout if you take another step closer!”
Gina said fiercely, though the effort of standing up had drained her of still more colour, and she swayed slightly as she spoke.
Something flickered in Blaire’s shadowed eyes.
“Lie down,” she said quietly to Gina. “You will damage that hands even more. “
“Did you hear me?” Gina said weakly, though she was clinging painfully to the wall to stay upright. “You can’t kill me here. I don’t know how you manage to trick the guard… But they will come soo —“
“When did I ever say I want to kill you? ” said Blaire coldly and began to circling around Gina. Her eyes followed the trail of Gina’s body up and down. Her lips curled into a sinister smile.
“Killing you will only dirtied my hands and I don’t want that.”
Then, she slowly raised her hands and lowered her hood.
“!”
Gina’s jaw dropped. To Gina’s great surprise, the person who stood in front of her was not Blaire whom she thought she was, but her lady — Lady Lunaria! Her eyes were cold and emotionless, there was no mistake! Only a true lady would possess that.
“M-milady … What are y-you … doing … h-here? “
Then, it hit her. Based on her lady’s behavior right now… No way — Lady Lunaria won’t kill her right?
Gina flattened herself against the cold wall, seemed eagerly to keep her distance from the lady. Just now, she sensed something dangerous — something dead —- something bad.
“I swear, if you dare to …. I-I will sh-shout,” Gina stuttered.
“Oh, are you threatening me? How dare you! “
Gina shuddered. She knew it. At this moment, Lunaria was about to end her life. She squeezed her eyes shut and babbling like crazy.
“Please … don’t… I beg…you…”
But Lunaria did not seem to mind her. Instead, she approached her little by little. She knelt before her, so that their faces were level. She leant forward towards Gina. Very unwillingly, Gina raised her head, and looked into those blue eyes.
“Say Gina, have you ever heard of branding? “
Gina was about to answer but shook her head vigorously.
“N-no… No! “
“Are you sure?” asked Lunaria in disbelief, eyeing Gina.
“Yes, I’m sure! “
“If that’s so, then you ought to feel one.” Lunaria smirked.
“…W-what? No! “
“Be a good girl, don’t you? Now… “
A terrify, horrible and a piercing shriek escape from her mouth.
“Be quiet! “
Lunaria shoved a pile of clothes into her mouth.
“Hngh! Hnmh! Hngh! “
Gina was struggled to release herself from Lunaria’s clutch. Lunaria grabbed her by her hair and took something like a burn metal. Then she pressed it down on Gina’s face. Gina shrieked even louder, although no sound coming out since she was gagged.
A word written on her now disfigured face. Lunaria took a small mirror from her pocket and let Gina saw her face. Gina was terrified as her her face which she claimed as pretty was being written a letter ‘criminal ‘. She broke into tears.
“Oh, now, this is not the end, you know. This is only the beginning.” Lunaria pressed a finger on her lips.
She took out a few several sharp metal things and spread it out on the ground. She tilted her head and asked, “Which one do you want to start?”
Then when she saw no response, she let out a small chuckle. “I forgot that you were mute. Well, couldn’t be help,” she shrugged. “Can’t risk to get caught.”
Gina trembled, tears streaming down to her cheeks. She let out a wail of despair.
Lunaria raised a golden hairpin on the level of Gina’s eyes so that she could see it clearly. It was shiny, if it was the past Gina, she would instantly take it from her.
“Do you love this? You used to love shiny things, right? Like a crow… “
Gina hissed when Lunaria poked the sharp hairpin on her abdomen.
“This will give you a stomachache each time you tried to eat something.”
Not enough of that, Lunaria also carved a beautiful tattoo on Gina’s arm that written: I BETRAYED MY MASTER. The blood trickled down from Gina’s arms when she finished carving it.
“Don’t worry, from now on, I’ll tell the warden to feed on you. You only need to eat and throw them out later. Easy.”
It was such a tormenting pain and Gina couldn’t wish no more than for the time to fly quickly. She couldn’t bear the extreme torturement from her lady.
No matter how many times she cried to gain sympathy, the lady seemed not to stop. Instead, she was even more excited to continue torturing her.
Each pain Gina felt, the more excited and madly she was. The insane smile lit her lady’s features once more.
Gina didn’t understand. She couldn’t think anymore. She felt the last strength leave her, and she hit the ground as she fainted.
