Arakata Hisashi’s POV
I thought everything will be over after I catched the kid who is stalking me but after exposing his identity, things got a little out of hand…
“Hey, stop following me around. Why don’t you just eat your lunch with your classmates?” I said to him before entering the office to eat my lunch.
“I don’t have anyone to eat my lunch with me.”
“Then just eat it alone somewhere, are you a rabbit that will die out of loneliness if you don’t eat your meal with someone?”
“But I….” He looked at me as if he is going to cry but I will not fall for that kind of act again after using it multiple times already.
“Enough already kid, just give me some space and privacy or else I will give you failing grades on my subject.”
I slammed the office door and walked to my table to eat my lunch peacefully.
That kid has started to openly following me around the campus since then and I just feel like I have acquired a little duckling that follows me wherever I go.
Who would have thought that the kid who is labeled as an ex-deliquent decided to stop beating up people and instead chooses to harass one innocent teacher by following him around.
*sigh*
“Arakata-san is something wrong? I can hear you make deep sigh this past few days.” Sakaguchi-san turned her head towards me while she is eating her lunch next to me.
“Actually, I don’t want to get you involved with it but I guess you are the only one who can give me an advice as someone who is always bullied by the students.”
“Ehh? What do you mean by that? Are you being bullied by the students now? What should we do? Should we bring them to the guidance counselor? Should we bring this issue with the principal? What should we do?”
“Please don’t panick Sakaguchi-san. I’m not being bullied or anything, it is just a small issue between me and one of your students.”
“Then who is that kid who dares to cause a problem to you? Tell me and I’ll teach him a lesson.”
“It’s Odagiri Miyoshi.”
“Eekkkk.. you mean, you mean that kid?” The color on her face fade out as soon as she heard the name.
“Yes, exactly. That boy keeps following me around everytime he have an opportunity to do so.”
“Just following you around? You mean he isn’t doing anything aside from that?”
“Yes, and it is starting to annoy me.”
“Pftttttt, haha” she is trying her best not to laugh in front of me.
“Why are you laughing? Did I say something funny?”
“No, nothing. I just remember a rumor circling around the students recently about you and maybe that is the reason why that kid is following you.”
“What rumors?” Did I miss something while I am busy running away from that kid?
“It was a rumor that spread during the week when you were absent which was all about the real reason why your were absent.”
“You mean about my fever that time?”
“Nope, someone spread a rumor that you’ve been involved in a violent dogfight between college deliquents when you tried to stop them and you were injured during the fight.”
“What?! How can such a fake story spread like that? Do I look like someone who will join a fight that easily?”
“Actually, nobody wanted to believe it at first but someone shared an old story about you when you were in highschool and how you always got into fights, then some students shared the stories of how their older brothers saw you beating up bad guys during your highschool days and so in the end, everyone decided that it is really possible that you are fighting some deliquents outside the school.”
“Hahaha what a lame rumor to pass around to kids. I’m thankful that I didn’t have any wounds or bruises when I get back or else the rumors will multiple and labeled as true.”
“You are right, luckily the rumors ended and it just leave you an impression of how cool you were during your younger years.”
“But it is unlucky that a student suddenly develop an extreme interest towards me after hearing about that.”
“Well maybe it is your chance to set an excellent example to him to be a better person and forget his violent past.”
“Maybe you are right Sakaguchi-san. And also, this can also give me solution on how to solve my problems towards him. Thank you for your help, I owe you this one.”
“What? No, I don’t think I did anything helpful to you.”
“You did save me from an unknown situation so I really owe you something.” I smiled and happily finish eating my lunch.
After the classes ended, I openly walked out and make my way to the parking lot knowing that the kid is following me. I open the door of my car and then face him who is two meters away from me.
“Odagiri Miyoshi come with me, we need to have a long talk.” I said with my most intimidating tone.
“Yes sir!” His eyes suddenly light up as he walk towards me and makes his way towards the passenger seat.
When I started driving, the atmosphere inside the car is too awkward and quiet.
I don’t know how should I approach him first and I am still busy thinking where to go because I actually came in without any plans in my mind.
“Sensei, where are we going?” He speaks up out of the blue and asked the most difficult question that I can’t find any answer.
“Somewhere where we can have a serious talk without getting interrupted.”
“And where is that place?”
“In the—“
“You actually don’t know too right?”
Then why do you keep asking if you already know that I also have no idea where to go.
*Sigh*
This kid definitely ruins my everyday life.
“Sensei how about we go to my place?”
“No, we can’t. I don’t want to trouble your family and I don’t want to be involve in any weird rumor ever again.
“Then how about your place?”
“Definitely no. How can I voluntarily show my place to a kid who have an extreme case of stalker tendency?”
“Then where will we go?”
Geez, this kid is getting more talkative towards me and it only makes me feel more annoyed towards him.
“To the river side. A perfect place to talk without anyone passing by.” The place where I always go whenever I have a problem and I am pretty sure that I am literally bringing the problem there which is this kid.
After a few minutes, we are almost in our destination and so I decided to stop by a convenient store first to buy some drinks.
“The riverside may be a bit cold this time so here’s a can of hot chocolate drink to warm you up later.” I give him the can and then continue driving.
The river side is too peaceful with no passerby walking around and the vehicles that are passing by are too rare.
I walk out of the car with a can of dark coffee and walks down the slope of the river bank.
I sit up when I found a perfect spot and waited for him to follow me.
“Odagiri-kun, let me get this straight and clear so I will ask you again the same question I asked you when I caught you.” I look through his eyes and continue, “Why are you following me?”
“Because I— I– owe you my life!” his ears turned red all of a sudden.
“Your life? What do you mean by that? I can’t remember such thing happened.”
“Have you forgotten how you picked me up the streets when I collapsed during the entrance ceremony? I owe you that time.”
“No, you don’t have to feel obligated owing me about that kind of thing. It is my duty as a teacher to take care of my students so it is not a big deal.”
“But sensei you know that since that day, I started to idolize you.”
“What? Do I look like some idol in stage?”
“No, what I mean is that you are so cool. You look so professional but still have the intimidating aura of a deliquent and I want to learn that by watching you closely.”
“Hey stop that delusion that I am a deliquent, I am just a normal literature teacher so stop imagining things.”
“But…what about the things I heard about you?”
“You know Odagiri-kun, you should not believe everything that you will hear from other people, sometimes they are just bunch of lies and exaggerated stories.”
“Then all of the stories I heard about you were all lies?” His eyes shows how much he is disappointed as if his life was truly affected by it.
“Well, not all are lies but just to clear things up, I am not a deliquent and I don’t like beating up people. I just happened to be involve in some fights when I was a student because I wanted to protect someone special to me.”
“So it’s really true that you have beaten up some of your schoolmates? You are really cool sensei.” His eyes shines back as he stares at me.
“Hey stop with that stares. So what do you want to learn from me?”
“I want you to teach me how to fight!”
“What?! Are you kidding me? A problem child wants to learn how to fight? Then how the heck did you fight until now?”
“I never fight back.” He look down and continue his story, “I was kicked out from all my previous schools after getting involved in different fights but it was all a misunderstanding because the truth is, I am a victim of bullying. It all started during my first year in junior high school when I met my best friend named Yuuji. We are happily enjoying our first year when suddenly, a rumor about my best friend being gay spread out all over the school. People start mocking him and treated him like a trash until it made me lose my temper and punched one of our classmates who was badmouthing him.”
“Well they really deserved that punch. So what happened next?”
“The issue have gotten worse as people started spreading another rumor saying that I am in a relationship with Yuuji. That issue didn’t bother me but I didn’t expect that it will make him more depressed up to the point that he started skipping school. I visited him everyday but he end up blaming me too and started pushing me away. One night, Yuuji sent an email to me to apologize for everything and he said that he was glad to know me and at the end of that email… He made a confession towards me. Yuuji admitted that he likes me and apologize for falling for me of all people. After finishing reading his email, I felt that something was wrong and so I rushed out and made my way towards his house but when I arrived, it was too late. An ambulance was in front of their house and saw his parents crying while watching the people carry out Yuuji’s body covered with white blanket. He committed suicide that night after sending an email to me.”
“Uhmm do you want some tissue?” He is trying to hold up his tears and I don’t know how to make him feel better.
“It’s okay, I’m not crying. I didn’t attend school until after the funeral and when I went back, people acted as if they were all not guilty of Yuuji’s death. All my anger poured out as my mind went blank when I get a hold of an old tennis racket from the supply cabinet of our classroom, I started hitting people endlessly. When I come back to my senses, I saw all of my classmates bleeding after being hit by the racket.”
“Woahhh so that is the reason why yoi become known as a troublemaker.”
“Yes, after that I was expelled from my school. When I started going to the new school, my past spread like a wildfire and it caught the attention of the deliquents. They called me out to have a fight but I never fight back and just accepted all their hits because I don’t want to be expelled ever again but things never work out well for me because the teachers never listened to me and just assumed that I am always out fighting deliquents every after schools.”
“I feel so bad for you kid. How come those teachers never even try to listen to your side.”
This kid is really something after being able to survive after all those bad things that happened to him.
“Listen up Odagiri-kun, you don’t have to worry about being misjudged anymore. I will be always here to support and defend you when someone started bullying you again.”
“But I want to learn to fight back now.”
“No you don’t have to fight anymore. I will be the one who will fight for you when something came up.” I pat his head like a little kid hoping that it will at least ease the pain he was holding up until now.
“Sensei you are truly amazing.”
“Hahahah yes I am truly amazing so you can stop following me now and just normally talk to me when you need something.”
“Yes I will sensei.” He finally smiled like a normal kid should be. An innocent smile like an angel.
