I’m getting married today. I don’t know why but I am a bundle of nerves! I sat in my dressing room, a little nervous. Putting my hand on my frowning stomach, I smiled. “Baby, your mummy is going to marry your daddy today. Wish me luck.”
I smiled. Baby has been my rock ever since I’ve been in house arrest. It’s like my own personal friend who doesn’t answer and just listens. “When you come out into this world, you’re going to be a very loved child.” And hopefully, your mother doesn’t suck at raising you!
Then, my door opened and Sally walked in with someone behind her. “Look what the handsome North wind pulled in!” My eyes sparkled as I turned around and saw my big brother, in the flesh, in front of me.
“Alan!” I ran and hugged him tightly, not caring if my makeup was smudged. “My, look at you! It’s been too long since I last saw you! You’ve grown up nicely!” He then looked at my belly and frowned.
“How did you put on so much weight?” I looked at Sally. “You didn’t tell him?” She giggled. “And get to look at his killer glare without you? No thanks!” I then smiled and said “There’s a little me growing inside of that fat belly of mine.”
Then, his eyes tensed and he cracked his knuckles. “I’m going to kill that punk. Deflowering my precious sister before marriage? I’m going to make him wish that he were never born!” I giggled. Al has always been the only one to ever care about me. After going abroad to focus on building up his company, he barely ever came back.
“How did you get here?” He sighed. “I guess that punk is reliable. He came to my company in person and knelt onto the floor, begging me to attend.” Hold on, he did that?
He grinned. “He didn’t even have the courtesy to ask my little sister’s hand first. He just told me that the wedding was the next day and I flew out with him! But now, respect points – 100.”
Al has always been funny and always took me seriously. He then lifted me into the air. “Are Mum and Dad not coming?” I shook my head. “Nope. I didn’t invite them.”
“Why not?” I looked at him, as if to ask him if he was being serious or not. My mother would be asking for a share of the betrothal gifts and my father would be trying to sell second-rate properties to the guests. Best that they don’t come in the end.
Even if they are my parents, they never acted like they cared about me. They didn’t fund me in college or university nor did they ever care about me when I was sick. But I can’t think of them today. It’s supposed to be a happy day!
Everyone I care about is here, well, everyone except for Landon. I sent him an invitation to Zack’s annoyance but he never replied. I guess that means that he still doesn’t approve. Don’t be down, Alice! Today is your wedding day and no one can take that away from you!
