“When I was pregnant with Zack, I never expected that I’d be expecting twins.” Alan, Sally, Zack and Zack’s mother were in a room while they gave them the whole explanation.
“I gave birth to two identical twin boys. The eldest, Michael, and the youngest, Zack. They were both inseparable but in their childhood, Michael was seen as being a prodigy. He was very smart and as both of the boys grew up, he was indeed the smartest of the two.”
Sally giggled. “Must be why Alice likes you!” He then shook his head. “No… that wasn’t me because my real name isn’t Michael. It’s Zack.” His mother then fell into tears. “Michael died falling off a cliff while both of the boys were playing. Michael had a scholarship and apprenticeships lined up. So, I made the decision to make it seem like it was Zack who died and he took his brother’s place and identity.”
The two people gasped in shock. “So are you saying that your evil twin came and kidnapped Alice for revenge?” He nodded. “That’s the only explanation. He somehow survived and now wants to ruin my life after I took his.”
Zack’s mother sobbed. “If only I knew that he was alive… I should have known! I’m his mother.” Zack snarled. “It’s our priority to find Alice no matter the cost. I hate to say this… but we need all of the help we can get. Right, Landon Crow?”
Sally and Alan turned around and saw Landon standing at the door. “This is all your fault, you know. But… I can’t bear Alice being in danger. I’ll use my contacts and see what I can do.” Sally smiled. “I’ll use my family contacts too! My parents love Alice, they’ll surely help!”
Meanwhile, in a car heading towards an unknown location, I turned and faced Zack. “Where are we going? I was hoping to at least finish some of the food that we ordered…” He smiled brightly. “Don’t worry, there will be plenty of food where we’re going!”
“You can stop pretending now. I know that you aren’t Zack.” He didn’t turn towards me. He didn’t even glance. He simply smiled. “What gave it away? The wedding ring? The piercing on my left ear?”
I shook my head. “No. Your hands. They’re rough, just like Zack’s.” He chuckled. “And how did they give it away?” I smiled. “Scars. You’re used to working with knives. Also, you don’t have a writer’s callous on your middle finger. Not only that, but you’re right handed when Zack is left.”
He smirked. “You know Zack well. Seems natural, but your words border on obsession.” I grinned. “Rich coming from the guy who kidnapped his sister-in-law at the wedding.”
He smiled again. “I looked into the Jones family. No matter how hard you try and cover something up, there’s always evidence somewhere. You’re the real Michael Jones. Zack is just a stand-in who reaped the opportunities that were supposed to be yours before your accident.”
He smiled. “I wonder if my brother knows this side of you, Alice? He’s probably used to the nice little housewife, not the calculating and observing fox that you truly are.” I chuckled. “I was always like this. I never lied to him. Some things are best hidden. If not, people get scared and cower away. Others enjoy the challenge and it entices them to try more and more until the person finally breaks. So, my question is this. What kind of a person are you?”
