Standing in front of me, wearing a trench coat with a lit cigarette in his mouth, this Gambling King seemed more like a homeless rich man who has just lost all of his money.
“Miss, may I request a round with the champion?” I turned around and smirked. “I don’t play for peanuts. You’ve got to put something on the line. Besides, I’ve won enough tonight. I wish to leave now.”
Just as I turned around to leave, two men got in my way, blocking my exit. Turning around, I smirked.
“Fine. What are the stakes?” He smiled. “I’ll double the amount you won today if you win against me. If not, I take what you won and you get to leave here no richer or poorer. How about it?”
This is not about a choice. He’s making me play him. Despite Michael’s terrible signals to stop, I sat back down into my chair.
“One round of poker.” He grinned and had the dealer open up a new packet of cards. Shuffling them, I was sure to watch for any cheating possible. Nothing.
“May I ask for your name, Miss?” I shook my head. “You may not. I don’t remember sharing names being a part of poker.” I fanned open my cards once I got them, looking at them nonchalantly.
“Married?” “Happily.” “Children?” “I’m going to have to stop you right there. This isn’t show and tell. What matters are the cards. You sure do have some guts flirting with a married woman while playing poker.” He grinned. “Perks of being the owner of this place.”
Hold on… “New rules. Instead of giving me double what I won tonight, I want you to tell me where I can find Laurent Anders.” He chuckled. “You’d give up 10 billion just to find Laurent Anders. What are you, some rich Heiress?”
Not quite. I threw my hand onto the table and immediately asked the woman to deal me a few set of cards. “Bad luck already?” I smirked.
“Nah… I just feel lucky the second time around. And I wanted to see what was up your sleeve as well.” His smile flinched a little. “One card in your pocket, one in the lining of your hat, one under the flap of your right side fold. Two in your boots and one… behind your ear. Cheating isn’t hard, hiding how you cheat is. Excuse me.”
I then got up from my seat and walked towards the exit. When the men blocked my path yet again, I grinned and in an instant, grabbed one of the men’s hand and flipped him onto the ground as if he was as light as a paper doll.
Not only was Michael surprised, but the King of Gambling was too. Turning around, my eyes were sharp. “I don’t play cheats. Not because they are impossible to beat… but because they are so predictable.”
I then turned around the cards in my hand, revealing a royal straight. Smiling, I threw the cards into the air as I walked away, Michael following behind me obediently.
Slowly, the Gambling King was peeling away layer after layer of this flavourful onion to reveal more sides that he would never imagine. I was interesting… and he liked it.
