“Did you just… cheat against the King of Gambling?” Michael and I walked away from the private games room, him appearing a little more shocked than I was. I smiled at his question.
“He was cheating so why couldn’t I? I saved all of the good cards that I got and hid them around my body in different places just in case the opportunity would arise that I was against a cheater. He was cheating so why couldn’t I? I just had the guts to go all the way.” Michael then sighed. “Laurent wasn’t there. I’m afraid that he might not even be here.”
Then, I heard a clattering behind a staff door exit. Then, a bunch of words that are better not repeated. I walked over towards it, something compelling me to open it. As I walked through the frame, I saw a dead drunk man with stubble on his chin and copper brown hair just like mine on the floor, holding an empty bottle of vodka.
“That’s him!” Hold on, what? “That’s Laurent!” I stared at the man, who clearly was in a pitiful state. Lesson one, try reasoning with a drunk. It isn’t going to happen.
However, I did it anyway since I like to prove myself wrong once in a while. “Laurent. Laurent Anders.” The man stood up straight and looked at me, squinting. “Arabella?” Arabella? “No, my name is Ali-” But he didn’t give me time to let me finish. He hugged me tightly and smiled, repeating Arabella over and over gain like a broken record.
“Geez, my name isn’t Arabella! It’s Alice!” He then backed up and looked at me closely. “Oh yeah… Arabella didn’t have brown hair. So who are you exactly?” His speech was slurred but he seemed sober enough to talk.
“I’m Alice Davis and I want you to find someone for me.” He looked up at me and smiled. “Let me guess, a handsome and rich ex-boyfriend who ran away with your money? Because honey if that’s the case, let me just laugh for a second.”
“That’s not what I’m here for. I’m here for you to find my parents.” Michael looked at me, like I was a little crazy. “Your parents are back in-” “Those aren’t my parents. Despite them trying very hard to hide it, they aren’t my parents but my aunt and uncle. I want to find my real parents, in this case my aunt’s sister.”
He looked at me and smirked. “You come to me, an underground specialist, for something as trivial as finding your mother?” I shook my head and smiled. “That’s the thing. I found this patch in a box in the attic when I was seven.”
Immediately after showing him the patch, his eyes tensed. “Where did you get that?” I smiled. “Will you help me or not?” He then looked at me, really looked at me. Then, he finally replied “Come… let me take you back to my place. We need to talk.”
