An hour later, Louis grinned as he got home. Opening up the door, he shouted “I won-” “Hey, Louis!” He sat there, in complete awe as I sat in the kitchen table with a newly brewed cup of tea. Noah snorted on the couch. “Jerk.”
“How did you-” I smiled. “You haven’t been around this place much, have you? At this hour, the fastest route to take is through the underground subway. There is an entrance on one side of town and to the next. Therefore, no waiting for cars and green lights.” He sighed and fell to his knees. “But I had an advantage on you at the first few metres!”
I nodded. “You are faster than me but not smarter. Sorry, but you lost that round!” He didn’t want to admit it but the pace that I was going at was impressive for a girl my age.
“Hey, don’t even try and recruit her, you talent-hungry snob.” Noah declared, stealing a biscuit from my plate. “And hey… didn’t you say that the winner got to ask something of the loser?” Louis turned pale. “Oh, mother of-“
In the end, I decided to turn it into a cash-in-later favour to Noah’s disappoint. Taht evening, someone knocked at my door. Noah always knocks twice but this knock was three times.
“You can come in, Louis. I’m just studying.” As Louis opened the door, he looked around at my room and smiled. “Nice decoration. What a lovely room you’ve turned this into. This used to be my study room but I guess that I have no more use for it.”
“Hey, you said that you knew what you wanted to be when you grew up. Could you tell me when you knew that you wanted to be a runner?” He then looked at me and smiled. “A little girl who always bested me wanted me to become the top sprinter in the country. And now I am thanks to you. So, why don’t you ditch my brother and date me?”
I huffed. “You really say the most ridiculous things.” I returned to my book. “So what do you want to be when you’re older? You could easily become a sprinter as good as me one day or you could devote your smart intellect to helping others.”
None of those appeal to me. “I guess that I’d like to do whatever my mother used to do for work. She was gone a lot but always came back by the time I got home from playing outside.” He asked ” And what was it that your mum did?” I grinned. “I don’t know! Hehehe.”
He sighed and leaned against my door frame. “You know, that fake cute smile of yours, I’ve seen it on countless people. You’ll stretch out your face if you continue to do it.” Smiling, he then left my room, leaving me alone.
Fake smile? I looked at myself in the mirror and slapped my cheeks, becoming an unemotional shell. “Guess that I’ll have to perfect my smile a little more.”
