After doing twenty laps of the school, every one except for me returned breathless. I had tried my best to match Noah’s pace, which was pretty slow. But in those twenty laps, we did a lot of things. He gave me the occasional kiss on the cheek and even kissed my wrist at one moment.
He’s adorable, even if he tries to be manly. One person who wasn’t pleased was Major Brian. He wanted me to be covered in sweat, unable to stand like the rest of them. It was lunch time after that.
I sat down on one of the benches provided and ate away at my lunch calmly. Then, I looked up and saw a man standing in front of me. His eyes were on my face, and were fixated on me deeply.
I smiled. “Can I help you, Lieutenant Colonel?” He looked surprised that I knew his rank. “May I sit next to you? I have my own lunch to eat as well.” He looks like he’s about to cry. I moved over and he sat next to me.
As he took a bite of his sandwich, he eyed me from the corner of his eye. In his eyes, I looked like a carbon copy of Andrea. My hair, my nose, my lips, everything about me was just like her.
“You knew my mother, I suppose.” “I-” “There’s no point trying to hide it. I know that I look just like her.” He continued to eat his sandwich in silence.
“How’s your school life?” I shrugged my shoulders. “Boring, I guess. Everything here is so simple.” He remained silent for a while. “Care to tell me why it’s simple?”
I then turned towards him with the most nonchalant face he had ever seen. “I find small talk drastically dull.” He was immediately taken aback by that. My tone of voice, the way I daintily ate my food, the shape of my eyes when I spoke to different people. If an 18-year-old Andrea was put next to me, no one could tell the difference.
I was scary. I got up from the bench and walked away. While I did, my eyes softened and my blank face turned into a grin. My whole personality changed with the snap of a finger. Some could see it as smart. Some could see it as scary. But most would see it as sociopathic. Either or, no matter who is right and wrong, it won’t change who I am.
I’m Quinn Scott, daughter of Andrea Scott, and no matter what, I always win. That’s how it’s always been. I get underestimated and I use that as my strength.
