“I want you to stop playing games with me now, Andy. I don’t know what you are doing with my son but I won’t condone it if you are putting him at risk.” Sitting in front of my Father’s desk, he smiled sweetly at me, which always sent a chill down my spine.
“Shade is not at risk. I’d never hurt my offspring’s offspring. And he asked me personally for lessons, so I couldn’t deny him.” I snarled. “Are you teaching him how to shoot a gun? He’s only a child!” He smiled and got up, pointing towards me.
“Your mother taught you how to do all of those things at his age. And he has the mental capacity to do so.” I wasn’t happy. “I’ve been through it. That’s why I don’t want it for Shade.” Then, the door burst open as Shade ran through.
“Mummy! Don’t interfere.” Wait, what? I then knelt down and put out my arms. “Shade, please. You have to understand that-” “No, you understand! I’m doing this to protect Rey and you! I want to become someone who can look after you both.”
I shook my head. “That isn’t your responsibility, Shade. It’s-” “The responsibility of our father who left us?” My eyes went wide as I turned around and faced him. “What lies have you spouted about Noah to him?”
He smirked. “He hasn’t found you yet. He probably gave up a long time ago-” The sound of my hand connecting to his cheek resonated throughout the room as Shade’s eyes went wide.
Never before had I raised a hand against my father. Never before had I snapped so much. “Noah is a good man! You’re the one keeping me from him!” He chuckled and wiped the red from his cheek, dulling the pain a little.
“A slap? Really?” I snarled. “You know that if I could kill you right now, I would.” I then turned around and picked up Shade in my arms. “Stay away from my son and daughter.” I said to him while walking through the door and slamming it.
As I walked away, Shade looked up at me, teary-eyed. “I-I’m sorry, Mummy…” I sighed and smiled at him, patting his head to comfort him. “It’s okay, Shade. It isn’t your fault. Listen to me, it is good that you want to protect your sister and me but remember that your mummy is very strong too. Stronger than your grandfather.”
His eyes sparkled. “Really?” I nodded. “Your late grandmother was an amazing woman who taught me everything she knew but I didn’t have anyone to protect so I ended up becoming very unhappy because of it.”
I then wiped a tear from his cheek. “No matter how strong you are, you can’t fight against someone else’s terminal disease. So keep that in mind, okay?” He then hugged me tightly as I returned to our room to find Rey.
