The clock was ticking on Namjoon’s watch as he sat across from Taehyung, waiting in silence as he was waiting for an answer. Namjoon toyed with his pen and pursed his lips together as took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He glanced at his watch quickly and noticed Taehyung has been quiet for the last twenty minutes.
Namjoon straightened up and asked again, “Taehyung. Can you tell me about what happened that night?” A very straightforward question, but it was Kim Taehyung’s request to at least get answers out of him. Taehyung also requested to be placed in a straight-jacket so he wouldn’t go off and hurt him as well. At first, Namjoon was a bit shocked that he actually thought of him, and his well being. It wasn’t like Taehyung to do such a thing, but then again, with Jungkook around, everything was a new thing.
Taehyung was just sitting, staring at the wall, he remembers the day so clearly now. He felt himself twitch, but thought of Jungkook, pretending he was by his side and holding his hand through it all. He tried to speak, but nothing came out. Reality was, Jungkook wasn’t next to him holding his hand. He needed Jungkook by his side, he couldn’t do it without him and he really wanted to try without him, but it didn’t seem possible. “I want Kookie here with me…I can’t do it without him.”
Namjoon sighed and nodded, “Very well.” Namjoon took his phone out and knew the janitor was sleeping since it was the middle of the day. A few rings later, Jungkook answered the phone. “Hello, Jungkook?”
“Namjoon? Hey, is everything okay?”
Namjoon could hear the sleepiness in his voice. “It’s about Tae-“
“Is he okay? What’s going on? I’m on my way!-” Deadline. Jungkook got up and ignored the bruised ribs that he had, thankfully nothing broken, and got dressed quickly then washed up. He took two pain pills that were prescribed to him and ignored the pain in his leg as he jogged out of the house and into his car.
Namjoon chuckled and shook his head. “He’s on his way.”
Taehyung smiled and looked back at his bed at Abby. “My other baby is coming to see me.” He blushed and looked at Namjoon, “Can you untie me for now? I’m thirsty.”
Namjoon nodded and stood up, unbuckling the straight-jacket and slowly removing it off of his body, then placing it on the bed. “I’ll be back. I’m going to go a get you a cup of wate-“
“Milk! I want milk, please?” Taehyung said cupping his hands together while placing them under his chin cutely.
Namjoon let out a light laugh, “Fine, but you have to wait a bit longer since it’s in the cafeteria.” Namjoon was surprised at Taehyung still, and he wasn’t really used to the boy doing such things either. Yes, ever since Jungkook came in, but still…still him like this was nice, but also very awkward. He left the room and locked it up, then made his way down the hall still shaking his head in disbelief.
Taehyung sat on the bed and gave the straight-jacket a closer look. He picked it up and inspected it all over. “Looks scary, doesn’t it, Abby?” he said to her while giving his baby a glance. He placed it on the other side of the bed and laid back with his bare feet touching the cold floor. He didn’t know how long he was staring, but he heard his door being open, quickly sitting up hoping it was Jungkook, but it was his doctor, Namjoon with two cartons of chocolate milk.
Namjoon reached out to give the two cartons to Taehyung, “Figured you’d like chocolate milk better.” Namjoon was going to give him one chocolate and one white milk, but opted for just two chocolate since it was rare he had it.
Taehyung stared at the two cartons, and took them into his hands. “Thank you, doctor,” Taehyung told him as he placed one down. He quickly opened the chocolate milk and chugged it down as if he hadn’t drank in days. He was panting after finishing it down, then opened the second one and chugged that one as well, just as fast. Chocolate milk was the best, and since it was rare he had it, it felt so good now being full with it.
Namjoon cleared his throat, “Well, if I’d known you’d liked it that much, I’ve would’ve bought two more.” Namjoon heard Taehyung giggle as he sat down on the chair. He heard someone breathing hard outside the door, so he stood up and checked out the tiny window to see Jungkook with his hand against the wall catching his breath. Namjoon turned back around and smiled as he walked towards Taehyung. “Jungkook is outside the door. Let’s put your jacket on so we can begin.”
Taehyung nodded and kept looking at the door, hoping Jungkook could walk in already. As he was being strapped in, he heard his door open and walked in Jungkook looking so beautiful as always.Taehyung had his lips puckered up for a kiss while Namjoon was still working on the jacket.
Jungkook watched his beauitiful angel getting his jacket on, and smiled brightly as he saw Taehyung’s lips just waiting to be kissed. He was a bit nervous to do it front of Namjoon, since it was something he’s never done in front of him. He quickly kissed Taehyung and backed away, leaving Taehyung with a big grin and eyes still shut.
“Okay, he’s good to go,” Namjoon stated as he backed away and gave a look over at Taehyung. “Ready?”
Taehyung nodded, then looked at Jungkook, “This is why I wanted you to come. I want you to be here with me while I talk about my past…I don’t think I can do it without you…”
Jungkook stood next to him and squeezed his shoulder. “Yeah, I was in such a rush, that they had to calm me down,” he chuckled. “I thought something bad happened to you, so I panicked like a craz-….I uh…panicked.” Jungkook seriously needed to watch what came out of his mouth. He didn’t want to offend Taehyung who already saw himself as a crazy person, since he was trying to make him see that he wasn’t crazy at all, just lost. He leaned over and kissed the crown of Taehyung’s head and held his shoulders tightly.
“I’m just glad you came, Kookie. I feel like I’m breathing again since you’re here.” Taehyung smiled and rested his head on Jungkook’s waist and looked at Namjoon who was just looking between the boys.
“Well, um, now that that’s settled, lets begin.” Namjoon went to the side of him and pressed the record button on a recorder he had from earlier. “Again, Taehyung, can you tell me what happened that day?” Namjoon asked. He had his clipboard and pen ready to take notes to jot everything down as well.
Taehyung felt himself go numb as he thought of the day. He took a deep breath and felt Jungkook’s hand give his shoulder a squeeze. “It was a hot day…the sun was peering through the window as I was playing video games in my room. My mom was doing the dishes…I could hear her singing along to the radio as she was washing. She has a beautiful voice…she also says I have a beautiful voice, just like her.” Taehyung let out a shaky breath as he thought of his mom, how much he misses her. He pushed back his tears and continued. “I remember rolling my eyes at her loud voice sing though,” he giggled as he wiped a tear. “My dad was still working. He owned a business, but even on the weekends he was gone for the day.”
“So this happened on a Saturday?” Namjoon asked with pen ready to write.
Taehyung nodded, “Yes.”
“Okay, continue with your day.”
“I played my video games for hours that day. My dad had bought me some new action games that I’d wanted for a long time…so that day I played. I remember looking back outside from my window and saw that it was dark. My mom called me for dinner, then got after me for not a least playing outside, but I just shrugged it off. My…” Taehyung dropped his head and sobbed quietly. “My sister was still sleeping…I r-remember looking at her…the most beautiful sister I could ever have.” Taehyung began to shake as he cried, letting his tears drop to the floor. “She was not even one yet….s-she…was so t-t-tiny,” he choked out.
Jungkook knelt down next to Taehyung and hugged his body close to his. “I’m here Tae…just let it out…I have you.” Jungkook cried with his broken angel, but tried to also be strong for him.
Taehyung broke even harder. How much pain he feeling inside his chest, but also so thankful for someone like Jungkook sticking by his side. Taehyung looked at Jungkook with tears flowing down, then pressed his lips against his other half. “Thank you,” Taehyung whispered. He let Jungkook wipe his tears for him, then continued. “I…just stared at her in her swing that rocked her. Just then, I heard the front door open and my dad smiled at me while making his way to his seat….It was a nice dinner. We talked about my game that I played…my mom was in a good mood that day also. She didn’t burn me that day with her cigarettes…she only did that when she was drunk or when she was mad when my dad didn’t come home on some days.”
“She burned you with her cigarettes?” Namjoon asked. “All because of her drinking problem and your dad not showing up? Where was your dad? Working?”
Taehyung shrugged, “I assumed so. When he did get home, my mom would start screaming and throwing things around the house while cussing a lot…I just stayed in my room scared half the time. There were some great times though…just like that day…everything was good.”
Namjoon and Jungkook gave a knowing look to each other. His father was a cheater. “So back to dinner…”
“We ate, all talked together…um…then when I was done I asked if I could go back to my room to play some more video games. After a while though, I lost track of time from there, but I heard my sister crying at the top of her lungs, and then I just heard my parents fighting again. I got up angry, ’cause I was disturbed during a game, but I knew my parents weren’t going to take care of my sister so I went instead….”
Jungkook felt Taehyung tense up and knew this was the moment that Taehyung needed him the most on. He rubbed his shoulders up and down, calming him and letting him know that he’s right there with him.
Taehyung continued, “I went to check up on her. I saw her and picked her up to see if she just wanted to be carried, but she didn’t stop crying so I checked her pamper and she was fine…I figured she was hungry so I placed her back in the rocker and went to make her a bottle. I went back to her and carried her in my arms to feed her….she…”
Taehyung began to squirm around as he thought more of the day, his body felt suffocated all of a sudden and he couldn’t breathe. He was gasping for air as he started to thrash around on the chair with Jungkook holding him, then the pain came back he felt that day. Taehyung started screaming, trying anyway he could to get out of the burning touch that pained his body.
Jungkook was freaking out, but kept holding on to Taehyung, seeing sweat appear on his forehead. “Tae, please, calm down! I’m here, I won’t hurt you!” Jungkook held him tighter in his arms and started rocking him back and forth. He was hearing Taehyung laughing now, and he knew at this point it was his other side out. “Come back to me Tae…” Jungkook kissed the side of his head and rocked him more till he was silent in his arms. He looked at Taehyung and saw him in pain. “Are you okay, Tae?”
Taehyung nodded and started to cry, “It’s so hard for me to do, Kookie!” Taehyung tried to be strong, he really did try to, but it was so hard to not hurt inside.
“It’s okay, baby…it’s okay,” Jungkook told him still rocking him slowly.
Taehyung calmed down and sat up. “I’ll try again, Kookie. For you.”
Jungkook cupped Taehyung’s cheeks and planted a kiss on them. “I love you, and nothing is going to change that. You’re doing so well, baby just by even talking about it. I’m so proud of you my angel.”
Taehyung kissed him back and smiled, “I love you too, and I’m trying my best to get well for you; for us.” Taehyung looked back at Namjoon. “I’m ready to continue.”
Namjoon gave him a nod to go ahead.
“I was feeding her while making funny faces at her to cheer her up from crying…it worked. She smiled and laughed at me so I continued to make her laugh. She….” Taehyung swallowed down his cry. “She smiled at me…a beautiful smile….” Taehyung cried hard as he could still picture the last smile he ever saw her tiny beautiful face. “She slipped away, just like that…I panicked so much. I thought she fell asleep at first, but her whole body went limp…I-I-I”
Jungkook rocked him gently and kissed the side of his head, “It’s okay, babe…take your time. Breathe.”
Taehyung cried and closed his eyes. “You know what hurts me so much? I prayed of a baby sister…so much. So when my mom told me she was having a girl…I thanked God every night…and when she was born, I held her and cried. She truly was a little angel in my arms who I loved so much..so much I did anything for her. My heart died the moment she did as well…there was no more smiling, no more giggling no more bubble making from her mouth…no more looks from her…it was all gone.”
Jungkook let his own tears run down his face as he held the boy he loved and felt all the pain he did. “She’s happy, Tae, I know she is. And guess what? I bet she’s looking at you right now, being so proud of you.”
Taehyung cried and looked at Jungkook, “You think so?”
Jungkook nodded, “I know so. So be strong and just know, we are here to give you so much support. Remember, you’re not alone.”
Taehyung sniffled and smiled so brokenly at Jungkook, “Thank you.”
“Thank you, Tae,” Jungkook told him giving him a kiss. “I’m holding you, and I promise I won’t let you go.”
Taehyung just smiled and leaned his head on Jungkook. “Abby was lifeless in my arms and I started screaming looking for my mom and dad. They ran out of their room and saw me with Abby in my arms. I told them I think she’s dead and my mother just grabbed her from my arms and tried to wake her up but it was no use, Abby was gone. My mom…she reacted like anyone would, she scream and placed down Abby trying to perform CPR, but it was also no use. I stood there crying not knowing what just happened…I just fed her, that’s all.” Taehyung paused and took a moment to relax. “My dad came at me and started beating me down to the ground….my mom joined him as well. That’s when I got called names and they blamed me for everything…” Taehyung took a moment to gather his thoughts. He shut his eyes tightly and pushed back the pain that was trying to take over his body.
“We can break if you like Taehyung,” Namjoon told him. Namjoon was already proud of hearing what he had to say, still, he didn’t want Taehyung to also break and something go wrong.
“My dad left the living room that we were in, which was also connected to the dining room, and left my mom to beat me. She ran to her room, only to come back with pack of cigarettes and lit them up then pressed them on my body making me yell in pain. I was hurting so bad…the fire, the kicks…the punches…I could taste my blood, feel my bones broken. I-” Taehyung was shaking now, and it brought him into the scene that he once lived in. He was back in his house on the floor.
Taehyung looked around frantically, but could feel the pain as if he was re-living the whole scene all over again. He saw his dad come out from the hall with a gun in his hand yelling up a storm. Taehyung couldn’t focus on what was being said, but knew he was getting the blame, just like it happened before. Taehyung saw his mom screaming and was scared as well as she looked at her husband. Taehyung cried and his father pointed the gun to his mom and shot her in the head point blank, then pointed the gun to his head and shot himself.
Taehyung was now back in the room, strapped down and was thrashing his body all over the floor in pain once again. He could hear Jungkook yelling and crying for him, but his body took over. Once he focused more on Jungkook’s voice he started to calm down and fall right back into his right mind. “S-s-sorry!”
Jungkook held him against his chest as he cried hearing the cries and screams Taehyung was yelling. Jungkook knew Taehyung slipped into his old memory, but this time he knew what had happened. Jungkook wiped the sweat off of Taehyung’s forehead and placed a kiss on it instead. “You did good, baby. You did really good,” Jungkook cooed.
Namjoon smiled at Taehyung and stood up. “That’s it for today Taehyung, and I have to admit, I’m very proud of you. Let’s work on getting more things out, and healing that heart of yours.” Namjoon knelt down in front of Taehyung and removed the straight-jacket and patted his head. Something he’s never done before, but with Jungkook around, he seemed like he would be okay. Namjoon smiled and gathered his tape recorder and clipboard. “I’ll be going over all this with Jin as well, so let’s see what happens next.”
Taehyung weakly smiled and waved at him a goodbye. He rested his head against Jungkook and smiled up at him. “Did I really do okay?”
Jungkook grinned brightly, “You did the best. You did something you’ve never done before, and that…that’s a huge step. You don’t know how fuckin’ proud I am of you.” Jungkook leaned over and kissed Taehyung’s lips, then deepened the kiss, showing Taehyung just how proud he was of him. “Thank you, baby.”
Taehyung had his eyes closed still and hummed happily, “You’re welcome.” Taehyung sat up, and had Jungkook help him to his bed. “I’m tired now. Will I see you tonight?”
“Of course,” Jungkook replied, sweeping Taehyung’s black bangs to the side. He watched Taehyung doze off into a deep sleep and sat on the bed wondering how long he’s been abused for. There was more to the story with pain that went beyond just that one night. For being such a sweet, strong boy he did endure a lot and that pained Jungkook. Getting burned? Getting abused? And he just took it? Jungkook cried softly and wondered how his angel did all this alone. He looked at his doll and stroked her hair. “Abby, one day…he’s gonna have to let you go as well.”
It seemed to Jungkook that his baby sister was the only source of keeping things together for him. The way he looks at her fondly and protects her is just his way of being alive as if she was still real. He knew Taehyung was not ready to give her up yet, but in time, he hoped he could overcome that hard obstacle.
Jungkook took his own life for granted. He had family, friends the whole ordeal, but honestly didn’t make no effort to call or thank them for anything. There was always other days, but for some people, like Taehyung, had no one. He was the person to make Jungkook look at the world differently. He walked outside and quickly called his parents to let him know how much he loves them, and told them how happy he was to have them.
Never in his life did it seem like that it mattered, but one person, one lonely person made him see a dark side, that he wished no one would ever encounter. The love he has for Taehyung only grew more and more each day. He would become his family, his everything, and wouldn’t want to change that for the world.
Taehyung, became his world.
