Jungkook had just got off the phone with Namjoon. Jungkook broke more after finding out Taehyung spoke to Namjoon about his past, without letting him know all this time. After that day of confessing, the days that followed, were also of him opening up more. Taehyung was trying so hard, but it went unnoticed by Jin…why couldn’t they get Jin to notice how much he’s changed?
Jungkook quickly found another job as a maintence, but in the morning at a retirement home. He needed to work to keep his place, but was not over Taehyung who he hasn’t seen in five days. He became concern since Namjoon also told him that he still hasn’t woken up, ever since that night. Truth be told…Jungkook hadn’t slept much either, not with Taehyung out of his life, things weren’t the same.
He dragged during the days, but made sure not get fired. He didn’t know how to see Taehyung anymore. He was on a list that was not allowed back into the building at all. Jungkook cried after work while parked outside the hospital building. He wanted to run inside and stay next to Taehyung, but it wasn’t possible, and it ate him up inside.
Jungkook wondered if Taehyung was okay, and if he was, he hoped he still got treatment so that he could leave soon with him. It wasn’t fair for Taehyung to be in that cold hall and room all alone with one to be there for him. Jungkook just stared at the building and hoped Taehyung could hear his heart crying out to him.
Jin was monitoring Taehyung just about every hour, but his condition didn’t seem to improve at all. He ordered Taehyung to be moved into another part of the ward to keep his vitals and everything making sure he was okay. Jin walked out of the room and bumped into Jimin. “Ah, just the guy I was about to look for!”
Jimin smiled at Jin, tucking his clipboard under his arm. “How may I help you, Jin?”
Jin look at him puzzled, “Did you give him the right dosage? I’m sure you did, but something is not right here.”
Jimin’s heart raced. “Of course I did. He probably is still in shock from everything…I’m sure he’ll wake up soon.”
“Hmm, I would only hope so.” Jin smiled at Jimin once again. “Okay you can go back to the ward. Thanks for checking up on the other patient for me!”
“No problem,” Jimin smiled and took off walking back to his part of the building. Jimin pursed his lips and bit his thumb nail. He didn’t think Taehyung would be affected that much with double the dosage…true it was way too much, but Taehyung wasn’t a newbie when it came to the shot. He figured, two days out and then wake up all dazed, but not this many days. He wanted to text Jungkook so bad to see him, but with Taehyung still out cold, he knew Jungkook would be focused and concerned with Taehyung instead.
__
Jungkook arrived home and opened the fridge to grab a cold beer. He chugged it down, wincing at the strong taste and slammed the bottle on his table. He toed off his shoes, unbuttoning his work shirt and letting it stay open. He fought the unshed tears that blurred his vision as he thought of his lover still sleeping and out of his state of mind. So many things ran through Jungkook’s mind as he thought about Taehyung being scared at first, but prayed he would be strong and still thought of him. Would he go back to being broken and lost? What if he woke up feeling the same before? What if he doesn’t get better? Will Jungkook ever get to hold him again?
Taehyung’s smile, his laughter…he let the unshed tears fall as he thought of the boy and not being able to see him showing him that side to him. He should’ve just let Taehyung hold onto him longer that night instead of pushing him away to finish cleaning. He should’ve kissed him more also…or maybe not at all, then they wouldn’t be in this mess. Jungkook’s brain rattled as he thought of Taehyung and cried all over again, missing him like crazy.
He wondered if Abby was also okay. Taehyung would want his baby to be okay. Jungkook took out his phone and texted Hoseok to find out about the baby. He no longer trusted Jimin.
“Hey Hoseok. It’s Jungkook…Um…how’s Tae? Has he woke up yet? Where’s Abby?”
A few seconds later.
“Tae is now being monitored since there is no change in him, sad. And I have Abby at my house. I saw Jimin throw her away, but I got it…I’ve been meaning to give it to you, but I know you got a morning job and I’ve been busy sleeping in the mornings…like now. :)”
Jungkook felt bad. He forgot Hoseok worked late at nights into the morning.
“Sorry. But is it okay if I could stop by real quick to pick her up? I want a piece of Taehyung to keep me going…I’m honestly losing my mind over here without him.”
“No problem!”
Hoseok texted Jungkook his address and Jungkook smiled for the first time in a while, putting his shoes back on and grabbing his keys. He left the cold beer on the table and jogged to his car with a smile and will finally get to have Abby with him, keeping her safe for her brother.
He was now driving back home with Abby by his side and feeling a tad bit better, but still hoping to hear some good news from Taehyung. It was always a waiting game when it came to him, something he hated, but was also understanding about everything. As pulled into his driveway, carefully grabbed Abby and introduced her to his house again, then made his way out of the car and into his home.
Jungkook walked to his bedroom and placed her on the empty side of the bed. He laid next to the doll and smelled her hair, smiling as he smelled Taehyung’s scent still lingering on her. “You miss him too? Same. It really isn’t the same…let’s both hope he turns out okay.” Jungkook laid on his back and stared up at the white ceiling, letting sleep consume him as he closed his eyes feeling a little relaxed with Abby by his side.

Namjoon was checking the vital machines and saw a slow heartbeat starting to become more frequent. He rubbed his chin and looked at the other signs on the machine. He didn’t understand why Taehyung was slowing down his body, almost shutting down. He pulled his cell phone out and called Jin.
“There’s something wrong with Taehyung, his vitals are slowly declining, but I don’t know what’s going on with him.”
“I’ll be there shortly.”
Namjoon put his phone back into his pocket and checked Taehyung’s heartbeat with his stethescope, making sure it was right on the machine. Namjoon looked to the nurse on the left and told her to run blood tests to see what was happening to Taehyung. The nurse nodded and left the room.
Jin walked in minutes later and also checked the machine. “Did you request blood tests?”
“Yes, sir,” Namjoon says to him, then turns to face Jin. “Taehyung was doing better, Jin. He actually spoke about his past, and kept opening up, what you did was wro-“
“-Right. What I did was right, it was by the rules. I don’t want to hear another word from any of this. You’re lucky I don’t fire you for any of this mess to begin with. Why you let it happen, I’ll never understand.”
“Taehyung was healing with Jungkook,” Namjoon sighed. “Just listen to the tapes of Taehyung…he’s trying to get better, but you’re just making it worse.”
Jin glared at Namjoon, “My father owns this hospital and if he finds out what went on between a patient and an employee here at the hospital, it would be my head that is being chewed off.”
Namjoon stared back at Jin. “Jungkook was his only real hope, Jin! Wake up and see that! He could open him up when we couldn’t!!! Tell me that’s not what’s the most important thing here!”
Jin pinched the bridge of his nose, “I don’t want to hear it. We have a job to do, and we let things spiral out of control. Let me know what the test results say.” Jin glanced back at Taehyung and took off out of the room.

The next morning, Jungkook was sweeping the halls, not really focusing on the staff that would pass by him, or did he care to move out of the way when they pretty much had to zig zag past him. His mind was clouded with thoughts of Taehyung. He didn’t understand why things were so difficult for the young boy, when he was just trying so hard. Things were not in their favor, and definitely not in Taehyung’s favor as well. Ever since meeting him, he’s been nothing but hurt or going through some kind of episode.
Jungkook thought for a mere split second that maybe it was better if he never met the boy, but quickly shook the thought away since the boy was trying to heal himself till now. That alone is a big accomplishment for someone who was pretty much concealed from the world for three years. Jungkook thought back to his beautiful smile that captiviated his heart, along with his big brown eyes that saw nothing but love for him. He fuckin’ missed him, and with each passing day it was only giving his heart pain.
He was on lunch break and texted Namjoon. “Hey it’s Jungkook. How’s Tae doing?” Jungkook tapped the table with his fingers as he waiting for a response.
“Still out, but we are keeping an eye out for him. No worries.”
Jungkook frowned a bit. Why still out? “Is there any way I could sneak in to see him? He’s not in the same ward, so maybe I could visit?”
“Sorry, but Jin has everyone keeping an eye out for you. Besides, he’s the primary doctor, so if anything happens, he’s rushed in first.”
Jungkook sighed heavily. “Okay…just keep me updated on him, okay? If he wakes up…tell him I love him, and to keep being strong till he gets out…tell him, I’m waiting for him.” Jungkook teared up and looked up to the ceiling to keep his tears from spilling out.
“Jungkook? Are you okay?” A nurse named Jessie asked, as she sat next to him with a tray in her hand.
Jungkook just smiled at her. “Yeah, just thinking a lot.”
Jessie studied Jungkook’s face and asked, “You seem sad. Ever since you started working here, I’ve noticed you always down.”
“I miss someone so much. I don’t know how to keep moving on so strong,” he told her, giving her a half smile.
His phone beeped. “I will tell him. And you know he loves you too.”
Jungkook let a few tears escape, but quickly brushed them away.
“Something bad happened with your girlfriend?”
“Boyfriend,” he chuckled while sniffling. “The most amazing person I’ve ever met.”
Jessie looked at Jungkook and smiled. “Seems like it. But what’s wrong with him to have you so down?”
Jungkook fiddled with his phone on the table and didn’t how to respond to that so easily. He shrugged and said, “He’s lost sometimes…but lately he’s been doing awesome, but…we got separated and yeah…”
“Oh…but what what do you mean he’s lost?” she pursed on, suddenly interested.
“Well…he’s a patient at a hospital….uhh…worked there…fell in love…got caught…kicked out.”
“You mean a,” Jessie did a circle to her temple with her finger.
“Crazy hospital? I guess you could say that, but he’s anything but crazy.”
“Wow, that’s a love story I’ve never heard before,” she said taking a bit of her sandwich.
Jungkook chuckled, “But it’s the best love I’ve ever had.” Jungkook smiled at the memories of Taehyung, and decided to get him something after work for once he got better.
“That’s really sweet though, but I ho-“
Jungkook just smiled at her as he stood up. “Lunch break is over, sorry.”
She nodded and waved him goodbye, sighing. “Another cute guy, taken by a guy.”
___
Jungkook went to the mall and looked around for something Taehyung would love once he recovered. He would just give it to Hoseok and have Hoseok pass it over to Taehyung. He could already see the smile and the sad eyes, knowing he won’t be back, but at least Taehyung would know he’s still waiting for him.
He walked into a shop where they sold jewerly and looked around for something that would suit him the best. He couldn’t buy him much, since he knew some things were not allowed, but a simple bracelet should do the trick. A necklace was not allowed, since it was a danger hazard for the patients. He still couldn’t believe people would choke themselves with a freakin’ necklace.
He saw a green beaded bracelet and smiled. Taehyung loved green, and the thought of him wearing his favorite color made him beam. He looked over and saw a red beaded bracelet also, which was his favorite color and decided to take that for Taehyung as well. Taehyung would know that that was his favorite color as well. He could wear both of them and still think of him.
Jungkook took two more the same for himself and happily walked to the cashier to pay for the bracelets.
Once he arrived home he quickly placed the bag on the table and took his own set out. He tore off the sticker tag and slipped them both on his wrist. “If I love it, Tae is really going to love it,” he said to himself. He admired the jewlery, then took the small bag to his room and placed it in his top drawer. Jungkook looked over at Abby and sat next to the doll on the bed. “I didn’t get you anything, sorry…Uh…don’t tell Tae, then he’d be all sad, then get mad at me.” Jungkook smiled and patted her hair. “I’ll give you to Hoseok when your brother gets better so he could see you at least when he wakes up, okay?”
Jungkook grabbed a change of clothes and went into the shower to relax his mind and muscles as he thought of the long days that were coming up ahead. He sighed when he thought about his new job, and it just wasn’t the same. Yeah, it was a lot, a whole lot tamer than working at the hospital, but there was just no Taehyung in his new job. He washed his body and wondered what he would do for Taehyung once he got out of the hospital. What would Taehyung like to do? He already thought about taking him to all the places that were popular to check out, but what would Taehyung really like to do?
When he did take Taehyung out, it was just Taehyung in his home. He knew Taehyung wanted to do more, but what exactly. Just thinking back on Taehyung smiling, with the window rolled down in his car, made his heart fluttered. He’d do anything to keep that smile on his face, and would probably be heart broken if he saw it falter, even if just a little.
Jungkook was now laying in bed, tired. It was still light outside, but he didn’t know what else to do since nothing captured his interest anymore. He closed his eyes and did a small prayer for his angel to wake up soon and get better. Jungkook grabbed his blanket and covered himself up and fell asleep with Taehyung still lingering in the back of his mind.
___
Jin was in the office writing notes down. He froze and tapped his fountain pen against the stack of papers. Sighing, he stood up and went into a filing cabinet and pulled out Taehyung’s sessions he’s been having with Namjoon. Opening the folder and reaching in the cabinet to pull out a set of tapes, he walked back to his desk and sat down. He scanned over what was written on his folder and opened his eyes in surprise. He saw Taehyung indeed make a lot of effort and progress.
He opened a cassette and placed in the player, then pressed play. He heard the sessions going on and noticed Jungkook was there during the first recording. He chewed on his bottom lip on hearing both boys talk to each other, with Jungkook encouarging him, with Taehyung needing him by his side. Jin rubbed a hand over his face and continued to listen to what was being said. Jin was hurt by what took place, and clenched his teeth at what the boy had been through. Jin didn’t know what really happened, but it was worse than he imagained, and what he did to Taehyung and Jungkook made him feel like shit.
Jin heard all the tapes, then leaned back in his chair thinking. He would be breaking the rules as well if his dad and the higher found out about this whole ordeal though. At least Jungkook wasn’t a nurse or anything, than that would really mess things up, but maybe, just maybe he could let this one time slide. If this is what Taehyung did ever since meeting the janitor, then maybe there was a chance for him to get healed, and get him out of the lonely building.
Jin stood up and pursed his lips. He’s never had anything like this come across and he didn’t know how to really come about it. He walked out of his office and saw a nurse running up to him.
“Jin! We redid all the tests and it turns out someone has gave Taehyung too much of the medication he’s usually injected with.”
Jin cursed and briskly walked to the elevators with the nurse following suit. “How is he doing?”
The nurse stayed quiet for a moment, “Still declining..but Namjoon is now trying to stabalize him.”
“Shit,” Jin muttered under his breath. “Call Jimin, now!”
Jin walked to Taehyung’s room and checked the vitals with Namjoon still in the room.
“Jin…I’m doing everything I can for Taehyung, but if we could call Jungkook, at least…”
Jin sighed and nodded, “Call him. Taehyung would want that at least….”
Namjoon smiled and reached into his coat to retrieve his phone and looked for Jungkook’s contact number.
Taehyung’s machine began beeping and alarms on the machine began to go off. Namjoon quickly placed the phone back into his jacket and the room was swarm with doctor and nurses rushing around.
“Sir, we’re losing him!” a nurse yelled. Then followed by a flat line.
Jin right away began performing CPR on Taehyung with everyone watching him. Jin kept performing it, then looked at Namjoon, “After I do a couple of sets, then you take over!”
Jin kept pressing on Taehyung’s chest and looked to the monitor, but still no response. After spending two minutes working on Taehyung. Namjoon took over with tears in his eyes. He began performing CPR on the boy and cried, “Come on Taehyung…Jungkook is waiting for you…” Namjoon was looking at the monitor but also so no sign of improvement. “You still…have a long…life Taehyung…don’t give up.”
Minutes past and Jin looked at Namjoon who was crying while trying hard to revive the boy. “Namjoon…stop.”
Namjoon shook his head and kept working on Taehyung not giving up. “He needs to live…”
Jin walked over to Namjoon and held his arms down. “He’s gone…”
Namjoon cried as he looked down at Taehyung lifeless body and walked to the nearest wall to hold himself up.
Jin looked at his watch. “Time of death, 9:21 p.m.”
____
Jungkook’s phone went off at he groaned as he felt around for the phone on his bed. He squinted at the bright screen and smiled as he saw Namjoon’s name on his phone. He quickly stood up and answered his phone to feel more awake. “Namjoon! How’s Tae-” Jungkook heard crying on the other end. “Namjoon? What’s wrong?”
“I’m s-sorry…”
More cries over the phone, but Jungkook didn’t understand. “Sorry? Namjoon! How’s Tae?”
“He…he didn’t…make it….”
Jungkook knees gave out on him as he dropped to the floor and felt like his heart had just stopped. He gripped his phone close to his chest and scream as felt broken all at once. This was not suppose to happen, this was not part of the deal…Jungkook cried on the floor as he could still hear Taehyung’s laughter, see his smile…his detemination.
Jungkook’s whole world stopped. No longer will he feel his touches, his kisses…a hopeless future was now ahead of him.
“I love you, Kookie.”
“I love you too.”
“Promise you’ll save me?”
“I promise.”
Promises were not meant to be broken.
