Because within this pitch black darkness
You are shining so brightly”
Jungkook looked at Taehyung and slowly backed away from the boy. Did he hear right? Taehyung killed someone? His mother? Jungkook didn’t, couldn’t believe what the boy said was true. He looked too innocent for all that bullshit that was going through his mind. No, he didn’t kill anyone, he just said something that was not true. Jungkook refused to come to terms with what the boy said.
He closed the door behind him as he left the room. He stood standing outside the door and contemplated if he should go back in and be with him just to make sure he’s okay, or if he should just leave and give the boy space after his attack. He opted for the latter and retreated back to the first hall to take a small break.
As he walked outside, he took in a fresh of breath air. He was happy that he could now talk to Taehyung, and not get physical with him, but Jungkook knew there had to be little triggers to set him off. He knew he couldn’t say his name; that was one trigger he knew, but he did need to learn little by little on what exactly sets him off.
Jungkook looked up at the stars, and thought it would be nice if Taehyung could see them with him. He smiled at the thought of the boy actually stepping foot outside in three years, and how it would feel for him. He wasn’t sure if Taehyung was up to it, but Jungkook was going to try and persuade him regardless.
When he went back inside, and went to collect his wax mop and bucket to take it back to the supply room. He walked past Taehyung’s room and looked inside once again, just curious. Taehyung was whimpering in his sleep. Jungkook look down the halls and saw no one in plain sight, so he opened up the door and made his way over to Taehyung, who began rubbing his cheek against the dolls head. “Abby…Abby…” Taehyung cried out softly.
Jungkook didn’t know who Abby was, but he was assuming maybe his mom’s name, or a friend that he thought of. Whatever the reason was, Jungkook was feeling the pain of the boy. He went behind Taehyung and softly cooed him back to bed, not sure whether he should touch him again or not. Jungkook didn’t see the harm since the boy was sleeping so maybe he wouldn’t feel him touching him.
As Taehyung continued to whimper in his sleep, Jungkook smoothed down the boy’s black hair in a comforting motion. “It’s okay, you’ll be okay,” he cooed once again. Taehyung again went back to a normal sleep pattern and stayed that way for a while. Jungkook slowly got up off the bed and stared at Taehyung just for a moment, then walked off again to do his nightly rituals.
When he got home got he tossed and turned trying to get a good night’s sleep, but it was different without Emma by his side. He grew accustomed to her always sleeping by his side, and now he was lonely. He thought how lonely Taehyung must feel also, sleeping all those lonely nights and crying himself to sleep at times, just to get through whatever he was going through.
He got out of bed unable to sleep and walked to the kitchen to get something to snack on. He looked at his phone and saw it was three forty-five in the morning. He groaned and went to grab a packet of ramen to fill up his stomach which grumbled at that very second. He got the pot and filled it up then placed it on the stove waiting for it to boil. He went to sit at his small table and looked through his phone to check for new messages from anyone, and there was none. He thought of maybe getting Taehyung a phone, in case he was lonely just like him at night and maybe they could talk…but he knew they weren’t allowed, plus, he didn’t know if Taehyung would break it or not.
He heard his water boiling and got up to add his soup in it and sat back down waiting for that to cook now. He made motor boat noises with his lips as he stared up the ceiling being completely bored, and wishing he was still at work just so he could be with Taehyung. He knew he was drawn to him since Taehyung acted so cute and lovable at times, but was always keen to know what really happened in his past.
He still couldn’t forgot the words he heard that Taehyung said. Jungkook smacked his lips thinking about different scenarios that could’ve meant what he said. And just who was Abby? He tapped his chin and knew he wasn’t going to find out no matter how hard he was thinking. Then it dawned on him…when they were in the recreation room he was fine, until he assumed that family that showed on T.V was what caused his outbreak. Did he really kill his mom? He did say everyone did leave him. No, she left him…maybe that was good as dead?
He smelled his soup and rushed up to remove it from the fire turning it off, before his noodles got soggy. He dragged his feet to grab a bowel, and was completely filled with Taehyung on his mind. He was hoping he wasn’t crying anymore and was back to sleeping peacefully, and was also hoping he wouldn’t wake up to not find him there. Jungkook poured his soup in his bowel and sat down to eat. He really couldn’t get Taehyung out of his mind. He grabbed his phone and called Hoseok, who was nice enough to give him his phone number.
“Hello?” Hoseok said through the other line.
“Hoseok, its Jungkook…um…I just wanted to know how Taehyung was doing, since the last time I saw him he was crying himself to sleep.”
“Taehyung? He’s okay, he’s looking for you though. He said he fell asleep then you were gone. He’s okay though, he should be somewhere walking the halls.”
Jungkook’s heart pained a little. He wanted to go see the boy and spend time with him. “Um…” He was debating if he should ask Hoseok if he could spend time with Taehyung, but being with him was against the rules, and he didn’t want to be in trouble. “Okay, thanks!”
Hoseok smiled on the other end. “You want to see him, don’t you?”
Jungkook thought for a split second he was a mind reader. “How..”
“It’s okay, you can come over. Namjoon is running the shift, and he’s cool with you and Taehyung. “Besides, for you to be calling when you should be sleeping is a sign for being curious about him.”
“I’ll be there shortly!” Jungkook hung up and left his soup on the table to go get dressed in some black jeans and a big loose white t-shirt. He was excited and his heart was pounding fast against his chest. He stopped moving about and stood still…he didn’t know why he was rushing or why his heart gave in the way it did…maybe because Taehyung was lonely just like him. He smiled and patted his heart, it was good to know his heart always did the right thing.
He finally pulled up to the hospital and got his key card out. He walked to where he needed to go and swiped the card through the big doors that opened him up to his work halls. He smiled as he saw Hoseok and Namjoon at the front desk.
“What’s up Jungkook,” Namjoon said giving a fist bump. “Taehyung’s been moping the halls up and down, I guess just let him follow you. Remember to call us if anything happens, okay?”
Jungkook grinned, “I will, thanks again!” Jungkook waved bye to his co-workers and took off down the hallways to find Taehyung. As he reached the third floor, he still didn’t see him…maybe he was in his room. He went to go check his room and it was completely empty. He thought for a minute and tried going down the fourth hall to maybe see him. As he turned into the fourth hall, he saw Taehyung all the way down the hall sitting on the floor with his head against his legs just looking down.
Jungkook walked casually towards him and couldn’t fight the grin that stayed stuck on his face. As he got closer he noticed no change in Taehyung’s position, he probably assumed it was just another nurse to check up on him. When he approached Taehyung, he knelt down looking to the floor and said, “Did you miss me?”
Taehyung quickly looked up and wiped his tears that were on his face and squirmed on the cold floor in excitement. “I did miss you!” Taehyung scanned Jungkook’s clothes and was happy that he was off of his job, and he came just for him. “Thank you Kookie!”
“You’re welcome…” Jungkook almost said his name and was glad he stopped himself. “Do you want to play some games in the rec. room?” Jungkook suggested. He was going to turn off the T.V’s though, just in case something pops up.
Taehyung nodded his head enthusiastically, and began to stand up taking his baby doll with him. “Abby, loves to watch me do everything, she’s my number one supporter, right Abby?” he said looking at the doll happily. “See! She said yes! Let’s go!”
Jungkook let out a small laugh at his sudden cute behavior, and this time followed a marching Taehyung to the recreation room. Hoseok walked by them and smiled giving Jungkook a thumbs up and went down the hall. Jungkook blushed, and continued to walk with Taehyung until they reached the room.
“So, what game shall we play today?” Taehyung asked. He looked at the different games and didn’t know what to play with first. “Oh how about this one!” he said holding up an old box of the game Connect Four.
“Looks fun to me!” Jungkook said as he finished turning off the T.V’s and made his way to sit in front of Taehyung.
“Kookie, please look at me already…I’m okay right now, please? You looked at me before and I was a good boy, right?” Taehyung was a bit upset that Jungkook didn’t look at him anymore. He didn’t know why after so long he would just lash out, but there was something about Jungkook that made him want, all eyes on him.
Jungkook slowing looked up into Taehyung’s eyes and saw him smiling so brightly. Taehyung was really a very good looking guy with such a beautiful smile that held so much pain. Jungkook smiled along with Taehyung but didn’t want to stare to long at him so he averted his eyes to the game set in front of him.
“Do you know how to play this game, Kookie?” Taehyung asked, looking at the box for directions, but there was none.
“Yeah…just literally connect four game pieces together,” Jungkook said, making it sound like it was the easiest thing in the world. Well it was, but for someone to never have played, maybe he didn’t quite grasp the concept of it. “I’ll show you along the way. I’ll be the black checkers, and you can be the red checkers, okay?”
Taehyung nodded and gathered all his checkers together and waited for Jungkook to do the same. “Okay, now I’ll go first…wait, in order to win you must get four checkers of your red in a row, and whoever does it first, wins. It doesn’t matter if horizontal, vertical or slanted at an angle, it just has to be four connecting.”
“I think I got it. Okay you go first,” Taehyung said as he studied Jungkook’s move. Taehyung went next and dropped his checker piece next to Jungkook’s, because anything next to Jungkook was always the best way to go. After a few more pieces dropped, Taehyung got the hang of it. He whined every time he was going to win and Jungkook had to go and mess it up.
Jungkook chuckled at Taehyung’s childish behavior and decided to let him win. He dropped a checker on the opposite end, leaving the obvious to Taehyung. Taehyung saw the move and jumped with excitement as he won the game. “Did you see that Kookie? I won!!! Abby!” he said turning to the doll. “I won Abby!” He grabbed his doll and kissed the top of her head.
Namjoon peek in at the commotion and saw Taehyung jumping while laughing with his doll.
“Good job, do you want to play another round?” Jungkook asked.
Taehyung sat down and clapped his hands saying, “Yes please!” Taehyung look down to his sitting doll and gave her a high five, ready to play Jungkook again.
Namjoon smiled and couldn’t believe Jungkook was actually talking to the boy, and he was okay with it. Namjoon bit the corner of his lip and hoped Jin didn’t find out. Once Jin finds out about anything, then it’s trouble time for all of them, but Taehyung was in better condition when he was around Jungkook…Namjoon didn’t want to that away from the boy. And by the looks of it, it seemed like Jungkook also enjoys the presence of Taehyung as well. Namjoon left them alone and went back to work, before setting off Taehyung just by disturbing them.
After the game was over Jungkook decided they could stroll the halls together to talk about anything that they wanted. As eager as he was to open up Taehyung’s heart, to help him heal faster, he wanted to go at his pace…when he was good and ready.
“Kookie…are you married?” Taehyung curiously as he stroked his baby’s hair.
“Oh…no…I did have a girlfriend though, but we broke up yesterday actually.” Jungkook didn’t know what he now telling Taehyung his private life, but he felt like he made a genuine friend.
“What? Why? You seem like a very decent guy,” Taehyung said looking at Jungkook.
Jungkook let out a soft laugh and replied, “I work long hours at night, and she wanted me more.”
“Oh…sounds like me…” Taehyung hung his head low. “Will you leave me to?” he whispered.
Jungkook stopped, and look at a sulking Taehyung. “I don’t want to leave you…that’s why I stayed on the night shift. And I’m here when I’m supposed to be sleeping, on my own terms. I don’t think I could leave you to be honest.”
“Really?” Taehyung held back his tears and looked at Jungkook.
“Really,” Jungkook said justifying his answer.
Taehyung smiled and wrapped his arms around Jungkook’s neck. “Thank you kookie.”
Jungkook didn’t know if he was supposed to hug him back or not, but his hands slowly found his way around Taehyung’s waist and held him against his body just as tight.
