“Today the moon shines brighter
On the blank spot in my memories
It swallowed me this lunatic,
Please save me tonight”
Jungkook pondered in bed over the events that took place that night. He was glad Taehyung spoke up about a piece of his past, but he wasn’t sure what to think of it when it came down to killing his sister, and his mom. It made him wonder if he also killed his dad…that would be his whole family. Jungkook tossed and turned as his mind was over flooded with so many things that he just wanted to know all the answers to.
Was Taehyung really a killer? No…he can’t be, the look on his face and the moods he breaks into seems to be of someone misunderstood. Jungkook sat up and looked at his phone for the time, it was four thirteen a.m. He laid back down and closed his eyes trying to count sheep, but that wasn’t working so he counted to two hundred. Still, nothing was working as his mind went into overdrive.
How can someone so sweet think the things he did? Even if he did kill them, there had to be a good reason, right? Taehyung. Just seeing him earlier playing with bubbles, and laughing made his heart flutter, but once he turned into another person, it was downright scary.
Jungkook just decided to focus on Taehyung’s bright smile and slowly, but surely it was doing the trick to ease his mind and all the other things that were surrounding him.
When he woke up in the late afternoon, he stretched and yawned as he just sat on his bed still tired. Jungkook scratched his stomach and groaned, knowing he had to get up and go shopping for some food before he went to work. He got up and grabbed a change of clothes as he went to shower up.
Jungkook was walking down the aisle of the store and began to put stuff in his basket, and knew some stuff was not necessary, but maybe some junk food can fill his emptiness he’s been feeling lately. He walked down the first aid aisle and looked around to see if maybe there was something he can do for Taehyung…but nothing what he saw will help. He stopped in front of the band-aids and saw all kinds of designs, then he saw a box with hearts on it, and decided he would take it. He closely looked at the box and smiled, it was perfect.
As he continued to shop he accidently bumped into someone. “So sorry!” he said. He looked to see he bumped into and it was one of Emma’s friends.
“Jungkook?” she said.
Jungkook gave an awkward smile. “Yeah…”
The girl flipped her hair back over her shoulder and smiled brightly, “Nice seeing you here. I’m sorry to hear the news about you and Emma…she told me all about it.” She put on a fake pout and tugged on his arm. “If you need to talk or need anything, just call me…can I give you my number?”
Jungkook pursed his lips and shook his head. “Sorry…but I’ll be fine.”
“So is it true?” she asked.
Jungkook looked at her puzzled. He didn’t know what she was talking about. “Is what true?”
“You like a guy from the loony bin,” she smirked.
Jungkook bit the inside of his cheek and took a few seconds to calm down then started walking away. He couldn’t deal with shit from her or anyone who talked the way she and Emma did.
“Buy him a straight-jacket! I’m sure he’ll love it!” She laughed as Jungkook walked further away. “Or just tell him to kill himself!”
Jungkook froze in his tracks and turned around leaving his basket behind and walked straight up to her and said, “You…you’re lucky you’re a girl. Don’t ever, and I mean ever say shit like that if I come across you again. Some people need help in life and are struggling with all kinds of pain…and you…you say kill himself?” Jungkook scoffed, “People like you disgust me.”
Jungkook wanted to punch her so bad, but had to keep it cool and just turned back around and seethed through his teeth as he walked to his basket and gripped the handle bar to push forward. It was sad how people saw others who just needed help and end up get tossed aside or treated like shit. They don’t ask to be hurt, to be in pain…sometimes they have no way of expressing their inner emotions and other emotions are expressed instead.
Jungkook was at work that evening cleaning the walls again minding his own business as usual, when he overheard Namjoon telling Jin about Taehyung. Turns out the boy has been spaced out since last night and hasn’t been eating or drinking anything, even when they tried to check up on him, he would just stare at the wall just holding his doll close to his chest.
Jungkook frowned and decided to stop cleaning and go check on the boy himself, just to make sure he was okay. He made his way to the third hall of the building and zig zag through the patients until he was standing in front of the door. He looked in the window and saw Taehyung, like they said, just staring off at the wall. By the looks of it, it he hasn’t slept either…he felt his heart ache and wanted to reach out, but just stared sadly at the broken boy instead.
Jungkook knew there was nothing he could do at this point. He tapped on the window to see if he could get the boy’s attention, but nothing, Taehyung just continued to stare into the wall in a daze. Jungkook went back to work and hoped Taehyung would at least try to sleep at some point while he was working, he didn’t want the boy to end up very sick either.
It surprised him that he still wasn’t scared of Taehyung even after what he went through, instead his heart grew more to do anything to protect him instead; as well as heal.
As the night went on he still was trying to focus on his task at hand, and tried getting things done in a timely manner, but he was anxious of wanting to see more of Taehyung. He quickly mopped up the floor after he swept and checked his watch, there was still time to kill.
“Jungkook! Have you ate yet?” Hoseok asked him.
Jungkook shook his head. “Not yet, but I will in a bit…I just want to see if Taehyung is okay real quick…is that okay?”
“Yeah! Let me go warm up his food, and maybe you could try making him eat…he really needs to eat and drink, only if you can.” Hoseok left the hall and went to warm up his food in the staff room. Jungkook walked to Taehyung’s room and slowly opened the door. He saw Taehyung in the same position hours earlier, and slowly made his way to him.
Jungkook grabbed a chair and placed it next to Taehyung’s bed where he was sitting. “You okay?” No response or movement. Jungkook slowly reached out and placed his hand on his shoulder. “Are you okay?” he repeated again. “It’s me, Kookie.”
Still nothing. Hoseok came in the room with a tray and set it down on a tray table. Jungkook got it and wheeled the tray table closer to Taehyung, hoping he would at least glance at it. “I’ll be out in the halls, so call me if you need me,” Hoseok told Jungkook.
Jungkook was now by himself now, so he grabbed the tray and got the spoon that was set on the side of the tray and dipped it into the mash potatoes. “Here, some food you have to eat if you don’t want to end up getting sick,” Jungkook said putting the food in front of his mouth.
Taehyung just ignored it and stared blankly at the wall. It seemed like he was just in a trance, and couldn’t break out of it. Jungkook smiled and just squeezed Taehyung’s cheeks together and placed the spoon in between his lips to taste the food. Taehyung slowly licked his lips and brought the tiny amount of food into his mouth.
This was a small start for Taehyung, so Jungkook gathered a bit more on the spoon and again placed it in his mouth, and Taehyung slowly started eating. “Want something to drink?” Of course Taehyung didn’t respond, but that didn’t stop Jungkook from grabbing a small box of juice that came with the meal. He opened the plastic wrap that covered the straw and pierced the cartoon through the straw hole, then placed it against the boy’s lips. Taehyung closed his lips in a weak motion around the straw and began to drink a little bit at a time.
“Thank you, for eating and drinking something. Everyone was getting worried, heck even I was worried. Do you want to see me worry about you?” Jungkook asked. He saw Taehyung slowly turn his head in his direction with the saddest eyes he’s ever seen on his beautiful face.
“No,” whispered Taehyung. Of course he didn’t want to see him worried, he was always good to him, even after all he’s heard; he was still by his side.
“You spoke…I’m glad.” Jungkook palmed Taehyung cheek, rubbing his thumb in a caressing manner. Taehyung blushed and smiled softly dropping his eye to the bed.
“Eat more, you need your energy if you plan on staying up with me while I work…don’t you agree?” Jungkook watched Taehyung smile more while biting his bottom lip in shyness.
Jungkook began to feed him and by the time he knew it, Taehyung finished all his traym and drink up. “Are you still hungry or thirsty? I’m sure this wasn’t enough to get you by.”
“I’m fine,” Taehyung whispered again.
“If you say so, but don’t hesitate to tell me otherwise, so I can let the nurses know.” Jungkook moved the tray away from the bed and placed it on the opposite of the room. “Let’s go for a walk, just you and I, oh and Abby as well. Since she’s a part of you, she’ll always be a part of me.” Jungkook smiled at Taehyung, and reached his hand out for Taehyung to take.
Taehyung slowly took a hold of his hand and got out of bed with his help, and both made their way out of the room hand in hand. Taehyung looked the other way as he couldn’t stop blushing, not even he knew why he felt so shy around Jungkook now. It was hard for him to act a different way now.
Jungkook stole a side glance at Taehyung and chuckled at Taehyung’s blushing cheeks. He gripped the boy’s hand tighter and walked down the halls silently side by side. They saw Namjoon smiling brightly as he gave a secret wink at Jungkook to thank him for what he did.
Namjoon saw the pair, and watched their hands intertwined, as Jungkook took him for a stroll. Jungkook was definitely the medicine Taehyung needed, there was no denying that fact.
They ended up back in the recreation room with T.V’s off of course, and both sat down next to each other. “You know, I’m glad I haven’t been fired yet…I do my work fast just to be with you, and it’s on the clock at times. I’m glad Namjoon is a cool guy, you should thank him, since he’s the one pretty much letting me be with you like this.”
“I will.” Taehyung looked at their hands on the table still locked. “Feels nice having you like this…never felt this kind of feeling.”
“What kind of feeling is that?” Jungkook asked.
Taehyung shrugged, not even he knew, it just felt good…safe. “Just nice, like…you make me forget my worries, even though they will be there to always haunt me.”
“Oh, I got you something.” Jungkook had let go of Taehyung’s hand and reached into his pocket.
Taehyung looked curiously as to what Jungkook was getting out to give to him.
“Tada! Do you like it?” Jungkook asked showing it to him.
Taehyung cocked his head to the side and looked at Jungkook oddly. “A band-aid?”
Jungkook smiled brightly and said, “Not just any band-aid, a band-aid with hearts!”
Taehyung giggled. “It’s cute, thank you.”
“Can I put it on you?” Jungkook asked before taking off the backing.
Taehyung nodded, but was confused why he even got it for him.
“Pull down your shirt…let me see your chest,” Jungkook said still smiling.
“M-my ch-hest?” Taehyung held his shirt tighter, not used to showing people anything at all.
“I promise I won’t hurt you.” Jungkook placed his hand over Taehyung’s and Taehyung felt the sincerity coming from him.
“But I’m already hurt,” Taehyung said.
“I know you are…that’s why I have this band-aid!” Jungkook waved the band-aid and, motioned Taehyung to pull down his shirt.
Taehyung slowly pulled his shirt down and watched Jungkook placed the band-aid over his heart. Taehyung looked down and touched it softly, then looked up at Jungkook. “That’s to heal your heart,” Jungkook said softly, moving closer to Taehyung.
Taehyung eyes filled with tears as he gave Jungkook a small smile. Jungkook smiled back and cupped his cheeks while brushing his tears away, then leaned in and gave him a kiss softly on the lips and said, “And that’s… to take away your pain.”
